Ok, all my Mac Buddies went from Camera Icons to Telephone Icons only. Anyone know what the requirement specs are now? Did they change them for the update or were the beta requirement specs lower?

Still doesn't work

I have a G5 with isight and ichat av 2.1 final (newest download) and friend has Windows XP and AIM 5.5.something (latest version) but no camera. She can hear me but can't receive video. Anythoughts on why she can't receive picture?

I had this same problem with the beta...ended up reverting to 2.0. Guess this means I'm sticking with it for now.

Video won't work unless you have decent line speed. Anyone on modem will just have to stay on audio. Not sure if that's how it should be or what. But that's my experience.

How?
AIM reports that my iChat account doesn't support this feature - "Connect to Talk", and Audio Chat is greyed out in iChat.

You can use any AIM account with iChat...

AngryLawnGnome said:
Yes it does. iChat is good with some things, like the menu item, but the lack of cross platform audio chat and the crappy profile viewing/missing personal profile really brings it down. Also, its need to be primarily based on your mac account sucks - not very many people have one.

We both have broadband cable with lots of bandwidth. I just don't know why it doesn't work.

While that statement holds true, it is not the reason in this case. AIM 5.5 requires to have a camera plugged in, it does not support one way video chat. Thus, if it doesn't send data in, say, 5 secs, it will cut the video feed. I had this same problem and found this limitation in AIM 5.5 documents.

A+... fixed all my windows-mac video problems.

2.1 also picks up the aim formatting of my buddy's text, which I don't remember 2.1 beta doing... maybe I'm tired and I forgot though.

The rate limit sucks, especially considering there is no meter telling you how much you typed... but its not as bad as the rate limit in 2.1 beta I don't think.

And the removing of the video button next to their name is kinda nice, cleans up the buddy list window, and it also prevents you from accidently clicking on it. At least you can right click on their name and if video chat is greyed out, you know if they can chat w/ you or not.

Edit- All the bugs aren't out quite yet... my windows friend I just IMed couldn't get a chat invite from me... and iChat just crashes, lol.

Problems with PC users and iChatAV

I have been trying to communicate with my friends who are using PCs and IM. We see each other within iChatAV (me) and IM (them) as far as being online. But when either of us tries to initiate a video chat we get the message the the other person did not respond - even though we did.

Now I have not yet tried the final release - all of my testing has been with the beta version. Has anyone else had this kind of problem and has the final version of iChatAV solved such problems?

I am sooo pissed!

1. I get this 10 second thing all the time! At anyone given time I chat with 6 -10 people and I can't use it! UGH!

2. I have still never gotten the Video chat to work with an AIM person. IT doesnt even connect, i have all the freaking ports open and all. It sucks!

Anyone know how to revert? go back? reinstall 2.0? I can't even use iChat now...

Grr

This still hasn't fixed the problem I have--I can't video chat with anyone when my computer is at the dorm. I'm guessing it is some sort of firewall issue, but I always get the error message in connection doctor:

2004-03-23 23:19:28 -0500: My Girlfriend did not respond.
Tried to send UDP SIP "invite" to the following IP addresses and ports:
123.456.789.123:4762

I end up using Yahoo! Messenger, which literally crashes every 10 minutes, but at least it works. I always send the error report to Apple when it crashes. I hope they get the message.

On a semi-related note, I hate my network. I can't do anything with it. My current girlfriend and my ex girlfriend both get REAL IP addresses at their school. I don't. I get some 192.168 crap. No mail server, no web server, no nmap, no iChat!!

Same problems with Trillian

Anyone have a good workaround to let me see my buddies using Trillian while I'm logged in using my .mac account? If I use an AIM account I can see them, but not if I'm using my .mac account.

Any ideas?

I'm having good sucess with 2.1 so far.

Has anyone else noticed that some of their windows friends camera/microphone icons have disappeared after the update?

Yeah. Now it seems that PC friends need a webcam to do anything. No more one way video, two-way audio.

Very silly.

I can't video chat w/ anyone not on my LAN... is there any firewall rules that need to be set? I the ones for iChat on my end from the apple support site, but I don't know about AIM...

i can't use iChat until it has TABS.
So i'm stuck with Adium.

PLEASE APPLE, GIVE ME TABS!
I HATE HAVING SO MANY WINDOWS OPENNED AT THE SAME TIME!

I keep hearing popping noises! 🙁 Sometimes it happens for no reason, mostly when I'm idle. I have a NetGear 802.11b Wireless Router and a PowerBook 12'' G4 867mhz AirPort Extreme, 640mb RAM, DVD-R, Mac OS X 10.3.3 😱 Anyone else have the same problem?? 🙁

Unfortunately you still can't start a chat (audio) only session with AIM 5.5 or vice versa.

Shame apple can't implement this.... if they can do video + audio, why not audio only?

They probably can and it escapes me why they wouldn't. There are plenty of Windows VoIP software that work fine. (Skype!)

it remains

Trillian? Barely a step up. Bloody thing doesn't even have Unicode support, not to mention proper handling of // commands in chatrooms...

yeah, but its possibly the most popular pc solution despite the fact that it leaves a lot to be desired. Of course, if you read version tracker at all, every piece of software on earth leaves a lot to be desired evidently.....no one can please everyone. 😉

i get excited when they add microsoft messenger compatibility, because that's what people outside usa are using. (in finland it's roughly 66.7% msn messenger and 33.3% icq, and most icq people also have msn account. no aim here.)

even text-only with msn would make ichat shine.

I agree completly, I don't know anyone who doesn't use MSN.

So is there actually anything different in this version, compared with 2.1 beta? Not being able to do audio-only sucks. Not all of us have broadband connections or can afford an iSight (or two).

SO WHAT

This does nothing for me. I'm Norwegian, and we don't use AOL's chat-program here. Of course.

All of my friends is using PC MSN for video and Skype (www.skype.com) for audio. I have tried to convert them over to AIM to be able to communicate with them with my iChat and iSight. Once they tried the program, the uninstalled it because

IT IS SO INCREDIBLY UGLY!

It just OOOZES spyware of that program. A 5 year old could do the GUI better. The buttons are "thrown on", and it seems as if they didn't even TRY to make it look a LITTLE good.

What is the matter with those programmers at AOL? Cant't they see that GUI is an appealing matter, and that is has to look a LITTLE good these days?
