iCloud and Migration from MobileMe Services Now Live

i'm still on 10.5 on my imac (which I use as my main machine for photos, music etc) and i'm scared to update to Lion on my lappy cause i NEED this computer to work with FCP 7 guess i won't be hopping on the band-wagon soon :p
 
I was already considering upgrading to Lion...but I'm guessing today isn't the best day to attempt the download.
 
Bitch about third-party vendors not updating their apps for Lion all you want but I have no pity. They had a long beta period and it's been out now for three months. They should have already updated their software.

I like to say it's been simple, unfortunately, it's been incredibly retarded.

My Apple ID at my email address prompts me to sign in with MobileMe to begin the switch. However, the MobileMe website refuses to sign me in and shakes, telling me to log in with my MobileMe ID. Not password incorrect or anything. I don't recall ever starting a MobileMe account with Gmail but alas, iCloud seems to think I'm somehow a member of MobileMe.

The only thing I can think of was I tried to start a "Find my iPhone" service for free with my gmail account.

I created another Apple ID with my @mail.usf.edu email address. It worked and I was kind of expecting it to. However what the hell is the point if you can't merge accounts, much less I don't want my Apple ID to be my student email address.
 
Apple should have prepared MobileMe users for the iCloud transition. I have so many unanswered questions. Most of which have already been asked here.

One of the many questions I have is: are my MobileMe aliases going to transfer, or do I need to notify my contacts that my perfectly good and paid for MobileMe email addresses are no longer going to work? Will my @mac.com addresses still work after I move to iCloud?

A convoluted, probably dumb solution for your problem, but the best I can think of:

Install VMWare 4, then install Lion as a virtual machine just so you can do things on the iClouds.

I run FCP 7 fine on Lion. I'm on a Mid-2010 iMac.

FCP 7 runs just fine under Lion.

MobileMe Aliases

Any idea how these work, or are preserved (or not?) during MM to iCloud migration?

I just migrated - and the aliases are all there like they used to be before they hobbled mobileme. you can create new ones, delete etc as before

Create iCloud accounts for each phone and share the App/iTunes store account with all the phones. Verified to work, I have 2 iPhones, iPod touch, iPad.
 
I'm not happy about losing Keychain sync and having to rely on 1Password (which I hate)... but maybe it won't be so bad. Looking forward to everything else.
 
Didn't work for me

My move to iCloud was unsuccessful. Sad day.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my MobileMe and iTunes ID being the same. They're both tannerozzy, MobileMe just has the @me.com on the end. I hope it gets sorted out soon!

I was able to move while on Snow Leopard.

Every time I try and sign in on my iPad under settings, it crashes.
 
This has been the worst feature rollout I have ever seen from Apple. I did the migration from MobileMe to iCloud, and it said successful. I didn't get any notification on my iPhone or iPad. When I go into MobileMe account or iCloud, it crashes on both devices. It seems my mail didn't transfer over. I can't get mail to show up now using either iCloud or MobileMe. It seems the incoming server is missing, and I can't even change it. So now I have no email. I hope they didn't lose my data.
