Can't migrate MobileMe—from either Lion or Snow Leopard machine. No updates to either OS X yet. No iOS update to iPhone or iPad yet. All very disappointing.

Particularly since MobileMe email account doesn't work very well anymore in Mail (on Lion). Have to Force Quit Mail and restart just to get it to wake up and download new me.com email. There are a zillion threads about the degradation of me.com account access via Mail (yes, even on Lion) over in the Apple forums. I have really been hoping that the transition to iCloud will make me.com accounts work once again.

So today "may" be the "big day," but each separate piece of the transition is being released in such a staggered fashion that it seems we'll have to wait for days before beginning the transition.

It's probably worth mentioning that when you do upgrade your MobileMe account to iCloud, you will not lose the use of iDisk (which is a feature of MM not carried over to iCloud). I'm sure this will eventually go when MM is fully put to bed, but it still seems to work properly right now. I'm not sure if iWeb publishing and MM Gallery still work for now in the same way, but syncing of MM-only items such as keychains and bookmarks appears to be lost as soon as you upgrade.

Some of the services may be coming online now, but there's been no formal 'iCloud is Live' announcement yet from Apple has there? I'd be inclined to reserve judgement until Apple say it's live rather than when MacRumors says it's live.

I'm confused... I know I can't merge my IDs but I don't know which one to use for this

1) A non-Apple email account that I have used for iTunes purchases since iTunes first came out (long before dot mac or mobile me)

2) A Mobile Me account I use for syncing, find my iPhone, and other Mobile Me services.

What ID should I log in and set up with? I'm guessing if #1 then I can just sync my contacts and calendars up through iCloud and my mobile me data then just becomes an island until deleted. Correct? Or is there a better way? And if I do it this way I'll lose my current mobile me email addresses, or can I import them into iCloud.

Or should I use my mobile me account, and it will just work with my purchases made through my other Apple ID still, like Match and all.

So confusing. :(

I'm in the same boat.

Here's what I did:

Log into iCloud.com using my iTunes account Apple ID, the one with all of my App Purchases, Music, Movies, Books, and TV shows. (your option #1)

Now my main iCloud account has all of my purchases, and an empty Calendar, Contacts, and eMail... That's not great. Tomorrow I'll use my Mac and export/import all of my MobileMe info across. (I could use Outlook if I was on a PC to do the same thing...)

The only loose end is my MobileMe email account. I use it a lot, it's basically my main e-mail right now.

As my MobileMe account won't expire until June 2012 -- I'm going to keep that Mail account setup in Lion, and on my iPad/iPhone.

In the future, Apple may let me merge it... If not, I'll just keep it as a separate e-mail account (and forget about using any of the other features under that account, as my iCloud/iTunes account has everything else.)

I hope that makes sense...

It's the best approach I could think of given my two-account (iTunes & MobileMe) situation.

If you come up with a cool way to resolve this, let me know.

Also, in iPhone and iPad, when you go into iCloud settings this morning, you're asked to agree a new set of iCloud terms of service.

Here's a question, sorry if it's been asked already.

If you have iOS 5 GM running, can you transition over to iCloud.

Found Apples first bug, can't send emails from my iOS device. Seems to be a BIG issue having a half email service

Could you be a bit more specific? That way it would be easier for people to judge whether you'd found a bug in iCloud, in iOS5, or if you've just got your mail settings wrong.

Worked for me

I have used icloud for about 3 hours now.

I just migrated my account by logging into icloud.com with me @me.com user details.

After this, it asked me to upgrade my account and it took me back to the mobileme website to log in. Logged in and then it converted the account.

I dunno what i was expecting, but I dont see why ios5 and icloud took so long to be released. This is coming from a big apple fan!

p.s i am a non-developer:D

I tried to log in but was told to set it up first in OS X Lion System Preferences. Can anyone advise where in System Preferences I should go to set this up??

Thanks!

I just managed to sign into icloud.com and I'm not a developer.

I could only use Find my iPhone as the mail and contacts need to be configured in iOS5 which I dont have yet.

Will we expect the public release of iCloud compatible iPhoto and Apple TV today too?

This is what I did, Hopefully it works for some of you folks.

I have 3 devices MacBook Pro, iPad and iPhone and I also have separate accounts one for iTunes and another for MobileMe

First, I keep all my MobileMe on My MacBook Pro, So in case something goes wrong

Second, since I use my iPhone mainly and I do not or intend to migrate my MobileMe to iCloud just yet, I synced my iPhone with MobileMe then Turned off MobileMe services - Contact, Calendar, Bookmarks, and Note - once you turn off each of the service it will ask you to "Keep or Delete Data from iPhone" - "Select keep data"

Third, assuming that your iTunes account for iCloud is new with no data or if your already key in or sync - you might want to log into iCloud.com and delete those entries. -- Go to iPhone iCloud setting and setup your iCloud with iTunes account and let it synced.

That's it. ... you will keep all your MobileMe services for now, and you also have your iCloud working on one device. If something goes wrong you now have 2 backups or 3 if there is one locally.

Good luck ...

Anyone else feel sad that we got all this going on today and Steve is not here to witness it?:(

It's easier to keeping using your MobileMe account for your iCloud. When you goto me.com/move, you'll be able to port over mail/contacts/calendar to the iCloud interface. Gallery/idisk etc stay at me.com.

You'll also get upgraded from 5GB to 25GB free.

Use your appleid for Store/GameCenter/iTunes. This account will only get the 5GB of free iCloud, but that's OK because you're not using it.

Your MobileMe account for iCloud/Backups/Syncing/Bookmarks/Notes/Reminders/etc and you don't have to export/import anything and you get 25GB.

It's taking quite a while...

No iCloud working yet for me;
No Lion Update yet;
No iOS 5 yet.

Sucks :D
