I am trying to work this out as I go. I must say it is poorly communicated by apple themselves. But I think there won't be a need for an app on iOS. If you can access iCloud drive from any app, say a pdf annotator or whatever, perhaps there is no need for a stand alone app.

Of course there is no standalone app, there was never going to be a standalone app, and any misunderstanding is your own and not Apple's fault.

I have already replaced Dropbox with iCloud Drive, however I'm using Yosemite, where the file management aspect actually comes into play. It's also available through iCloud.com, but only in beta form at the moment.

Actually rearranged all of my files out of the "App Libraries". I can no longer access them on my iPad though the built-in document picker.................................. Their official screenshot was very misleading.

In what apps? If the apps have not been updated, you will see nothing.

There is no app. It's just a document picker when you want to open or create something in an iCloud compatible app.

So why doesn't the updated Pages and Numbers released today have this "document picker"?

I agree completely. Very disappointed.

So can you add photos to it from your phone? Can you view photos stored in iCloud drive from your phone?

that will be possible when apple releases their new photo app, in a previous press release event they mentioned that app would be released after osx yosemite.

iCloud has been such a confusing ****-show ever since it was released. Why can't they consolidate everything and make it easy to use instead of the convoluted mess it is now?

Oh, bummer. I thought this was a seperate app.

I understand it is for OS X since, according to Apple, I can "organize my files the way I like".

I guess we got to wait until Yosemite to fully see. I wish these OS's were released at the same time.

This. Why is everything so disjointed.

What can't we just have a Dropbox like folder. That way I can put my photos in it and it automatically shows up in the Photos apps on my devices.

What can't I add a music folder to this Dropbox like folder and just have my music appear int he Music app. No need for iTunes Match (or iCloud for iTunes or whatever it's called).

Why can't we just take a picture on the phone and have it added to folder called Camera Uploads. Why must it go into this mysterious cloud and I have to use YET ANOTHER SEPERATE app to manage my data in the cloud?

This is Apple's 5th iteration of "the cloud". They truly don't understand the cloud.

Add me to the list of users who thought this would be a true Dropbox replacement. I was imagining an app on my phone where I could view and browse all those iCloud Drive documents I uploaded. I imagined showing someone a video I created and saved onto iCloud Drive to avoid having to compress it- email it - etc. sounds like that won't be the case (so far)
All that is required is for someone to create and release an app. The API and libraries are there for developers to use.

I agree - iCloud is just extremely confusing right now. It does "some" things - and not others. It'll do "some" things later when Yosemite comes out, we still have no idea if it'll do "these" particular things then, though. Snarky comments from kids who have spent the last week researching it online don't help. It's a freaking confusing process - and it doesn't help that it has 3 names right now - iCloud drive, iCloud backups, and just regular iCloud. When I enable it on my phone in iOS 8 - I barely even know what that fully means right now.

I seriously don't know where the hell my stuff goes when I take a picture/ when I back up/ etc. No idea what is backed up, what is not, what is on my physical phone or what is on the cloud. Why can't I just seem the damn files? So frustrating. Better yet why can't they just put a damn cloud toggle able icon in all that empty white space that indicates whether or not something is on the cloud.

Bingo. It could have been so straight forward - don't know what went wrong here. I think it has something to do with the fact that it has different names, options and functions depending on if you're on a device running iOS 8 vs iOS 7 vs a Mac. it seems like a mess right now.

From what I see Document Picker is supported in Quip and in Dropbox when choosing files to upload (as with all extensions you have to go to More screen and enable them first). iWorks apps doesn't seem to have it yet.

I have downloaded this app but still do not see the picker. In fact, I see nothing. Are you able to see the iCloud Drive picker when using this app?

I was under this impression too. I've been on the GM for a few days and was expecting the inevitable iOS 8 iCloud Drive app updates would magic the pickers into existence but seemingly (at least with Pages) this isn't the case. This is odd as the picker does seem to exist as advertised, it just doesn't seem to be used in the iCloud Drive enabled apps...

Indeed the picker does show up in Dropbox. First I have seen the picker - so it does exist! What I don't understand is why other apps are not showing it - including apps that are "upgraded for iCloud drive" in their release notes. Doesn't make any sense.

I don't either. But I guess that Apple plans to add it to iWork with the release of Yosemite and iWork updates for that OS.

I think the idea is that it's just supposed to work. Why are we worried about seeing the actual files? Because that's what we are USED TO. But really, it's not necessary. We should just have a system that works... we don't need to see how it works so much.

Just my opinion on why it is the way it is.

When I add a Pages document to my iCloud drive, I expect to see it available in Pages. As it stands today, this simply does not happen. I have to put it in the Pages folder in iCloud Drive, then I see it. From the web interface, and from Yosemite, I can save it anywhere - I should be able to see it anywhere.

Regardless of this behavior, it also does not match the screenshots, nor does it work as described on the iOS 8 features page. If the functionality worked as advertised, I wouldn't be complaining.

The mysterious iCloud Drive within dropbox, the only app I can find it in so far.
