Funnily enough, all the pieces are in place. Tagging in OS X and smart albums in iPhoto. So you could have both a folder for Pages, but also a folder for Semester.

They did present it well. It never should have been taken as a file management App...this is iOS after all....Apple doesn't think you're too stupid....they just know there is a much better way.

I can't believe we're still there....some people still complaining about not having the joy of a navigable file system on iOS....is it 2007? My goodness.

Apple's "better way" is for the iMovie app and the Pages app to have entirely different file pickers, which operate in a contradictory way?

That's a very, very poor "better way".

Apple wants to restrict the file system because it hopes to sell you things better with it. No reason otherwise. It has a huge negative impact on the user experience.

You cannot tag on iOS, but can on OS X. That's what I mean by all the pieces are in place... They just haven't been put together in anything resembling a useful way.

Speaking of which, one of the big advantages of iCloud Drive was the ability to link apps together into workflows. When I opened Pages in Dropbox, all the files were in the .pages format, which is supported by... Well not many apps.

Surely there is a way around this. The pages app itself can export as pdf or doc, but iCloud doesn't appear to be able to access this.
