Has anyone worked out if you can view iCloud drive documents in Documents 5? Doesn't seem to be working for me.

I just use an iPhone and iPad, would it be bad if I upgraded to I could Drive? I been reading that it's only good if I get Yosemite.

you can access it on icloud.com

Thanks, I was wondering because I saw this:

http://lifehacker.com/do-not-enable...rce=lifehacker_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow

"iCloud Drive changes iCloud from a clunky, invisible cloud storage system into a more Dropbox-like file system. It's great, but iCloud Drive is only compatible with iOS devices running iOS 8 and Macs running OS X Yosemite. If you enable Drive, your apps won't sync up properly until you have Yosemite installed."

Doesn't even work in native apps? I mean, shouldn't you be able to save an e-mail attachement to iCloud Drive?

The ironic thing was it was a true dropbox replacement when it was still idisk

Glad I didn't update icloud.

I subscribed to the 200 GB plan. How am I able to put my photos on my icloud drive storage? Would it just backup automatically?

I have Yosemite PB3 and have copied all my photos to iCloud Drive. At least that part seems pretty reliable so far. I can see the folders and pictures out on icloud.com. Unfortunately icloud.com doesn't have an actual picture viewer. But I can see that they are out there and backed up, which was my main concern. I have about 50GB of photos. This will allow me to go back to the basic membership of DropBox at least.

so it only works on yosemite

What a complete mess.

Remember how people claim Apple doesn't ship things until they figure it out right? How can people claim this shambles is better than a Finder app?

Can't even find iCloud Drive in the settings menu - any ideas?

Not where it should be.

So based on the real world pics of icloud drive I'm seeing, it looks like folders are categorized by application? For instance, if I create a Numbers file it is stored on iCloud drive in a "Numbers" folder? And I can only access the document in Numbers? What if I wanted to open the document in a different app on my iPad would I be able to (assuming the app supports the iCloud file picker?)

Fake. Not possible

It is possible and definitely true. Try it: Open iMovie for iOS, create a movie and then tap the "Add Media" icon. You will get a list of sources which include iCloud Drive. If you tap iCloud Drive, you will get exactly this file picker.

Edit: well, nomad01 types faster than me...

You should be able to do that, and the picker supports it, but the iWork apps don't do it even though they have been updated with "iCloud Drive" compatibility this morning.

Exactly. Besides, what if you want to save an attachment from an e-mail? That doesn't seem to work either...

Of course there is no standalone app, there was never going to be a standalone app, and any misunderstanding is your own and not Apple's fault.

I have already replaced Dropbox with iCloud Drive, however I'm using Yosemite, where the file management aspect actually comes into play. It's also available through iCloud.com, but only in beta form at the moment.
So there's a standalone app for pretty much every device except iOS devices? Yeah, sure, totally not misleading.

I think the idea is that it's just supposed to work. Why are we worried about seeing the actual files? Because that's what we are USED TO. But really, it's not necessary. We should just have a system that works... we don't need to see how it works so much.

Just my opinion on why it is the way it is.

That's only possible if you can trust every app to have the document picker included. Which we can't.

One single "iCloud Drive" app would fix everything.

No, that would make too much sense.

Even using Yosemite for a while now the idea of iCloud Drive being a Dropbox or OneDrive replacement is laughable. iCloud Drive is so limited in functionality on our end its not worth using besides iCloud backups if you use that. I don't. I backup my phone to my Mac. And DropBox and OneDrive both have both have automatic photo backups if you want to.

And with Apple's history of cloud services its only a matter of time before they decide iCloud Drive doesn't work and change its name to something else and tell us we have a year before all the data is purged.

I can't figure out why they didn't engineer iCloud Drive to work like many of the other cloud services, and give us more control of managing our data. This is stupid. Sorry...but its asinine to give up functionality with any other cloud drive service and switch to iCloud Drive. Even on Yosemite, with the build in Finder folder, its barely useful in a 'file explorer' type format. And on iOS you get zero control of your data outside of the settings menu.
