So, Apple users will get better support in their primary used application on a PC than their Mac... Makes sense.

At least they are making it easier to switch to PC.

This is great news. It's so annoying having to manage passwords between my phone and PC. I've never owned any sort of mac so it's been a huge pet peeve.

I find the process of having to launch an 3rd party app just to get to my password annoying. They lack the elegance of an integrated solution. This is especially true on iOS where I find jumping to a new app as abrasive as when the camera moves on its own in VR. It's worst when you have to jump to the app twice, once for the user name and then again for the password.

Prior to Apple allowing third party providers to use the default password filling, I would agree. But currently, the process is identical and the only way you would even know you’re using a third party app (like LastPass) as opposed to keychain is if you have multiple stored passwords for the same service. And even in that scenario - the process is the same, you only notice because the pop up dialogue where you select the password is branded.

That was not my experience. Keychain has a pop up while 1Password switches to its app.

Shouldnt work that way. You have to turn them on in Settings->Passwords->Autofill Passwords
I thought I was on 12 when I tried it, but maybe I wasn't. If it ever goes to another app instead of doing a pop up than I still don't want it.

Everyone realizes that edge can use extensions from the chrome web store right?
Some chrome extensions do not work on Edge. For example the Ubiquity device discovery tool...

Google also does not like Edge using chrome extensions, therefore my original post wondering if will work... if this is some deal with Apple and Google, they may request that it not to work in Edge.

You must not have been. I use 1Password all the time on both Macs and iOS devices. There is no switching of Apps when requesting passwords. You get the exact same prompt that you would get with keychain.

In fact, the latest version of 1P for Mac has made entering passwords in Safari the same as Keychain as well. (Chrome & Edge still require entering a keystroke and selecting the right password from a pop-over window. )

In fact, with the latest version of 1P, there are two big advantages over keychain: 1) You can authenticate before entering a password by AppleWatch, in addition to TouchID & password and 2) It will autofill a TOTP 2FA code if saved in 1Password. No extra App, no relying on a less secure 2FA, such as SMS.

Yeah, that may have been before the changes

this is what it looks like for me with LastPass when there is only one entry

and this is the pop up if there are multiple

Does anyone know how secure this is? Can I trust Windows to have a copy of all my passwords even though it is encrypted :p

Very excited for this, this will Sherlock 1Password for me - saves me some money every year. The most annoying thing about 3rd party password managers is that if I login to a new account on iOS it won't offer to remember the password - so I end up having to enter it again anyway, Apple's fault entirely.

Logging into 1Password while filling in Safari can sometimes be hit-or-miss and slow as well, plus often it's not up to date on server side changes right away. It feels like a clunky experience all around, while Keychain just works properly.

God willing this will work the other way (enter a new password on Chrome Windows and have it offer to save the password in iCloud Keychain) or I'll be back to square one. I fear it may not, given how Keychain works. (Edit: the support article says "you can save important web passwords and keep them up to date in Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and in Chrome on your PC." so here's hoping)

Was is the issue people have with using LastPass or an alternative over something like the built in Firefox password manager in your case?

It was either Lastpass or 1Pass that had a major security breach. I don't trust them.

Also I want my passwords shared across my Mac and Windows sides and I use Safari on Mac.

I am eager to upgrade from 11.6 to what appears to be 12.0 from this post. However, there does not appear to be any updates in the MS Store for iCloud?

Anyone experiencing the same?

Same, I'm thinking maybe they pulled it until Google approves the extension on the Chrome web store. I think you can still use the standalone version which tends to get updates faster.

If they were serious about this, they would've introduced it long ago. Like someone else said though, this is but one step to help Windows/Intel users migrate to M1 machines. In time, if the integration with Chrome proves as helpful as LastPass, perhaps I'll migrate back. Being entrenched as I am though, I can't see myself doing so anytime soon.

What does this have to do with helping people migrate to Apple Silicon? That doesn't make sense.

Through the extension it launches automatically. Plus you can store so much useful information in 1password. notes, software serials, identifications, credit cards.. anything really.
