Definitely need 64! SSDs are getting cheaper. Toshiba releasing 64GB ssd that apple might be buying from them.

I will be very annoyed if they don't offer a 64 GB option with the next iPhone. I HATE having to delete an old CD every time a get a new one. It's not so much that I need to have all of my music with me at all times. It's more that I hate having to decide which songs to delete every couple of weeks when I get something new. With 64 GB, I could just have it all and use auto-sync in iTunes. Manually syncing my music is very annoying.

It took me ~30 years to accumulate ~35 GB of music. I figure that's about 1 GB per year, so 64 GB should satisfy me for a longgg time.

Apple will do research and see if there's a big enough group to justify a 64gb iPhone. While it is obvious from this thread a lot of people on here would like it, outside MacRumors that isn't so true. Most people that have an iPhone are very casual users(I mean like what, a third have never synced it before?) and I think having a third option at a higher price point for a 64 gb iPhone would not sell as well as the other two. If Apple thinks that making a 64gb iPhone will be financially beneficial, they will. If they think the 64 gb version won't sell well, they won't.

What I think they should do is drop the 16 gb version (keep the 3g at 8gb, and the 4 at 16gb) and make the next iPhone 32 and 64gb if they want a larger iPhone.

The only legitimate reason someone would be against more storage in a device is if it slowed down your device.

And since that doesn't happen, there isn't a legitimate concern at all.

Unless some people are OCD, and can't stand the idea of having unused space on their iPhone.

I don't think people are against it, but rather are debating whether they think Apple will put it in their next iPhone or not.

That is a valid debate. But a lot of people are just saying they shouldn't add more because they don't use it.

Apple makes a 64 GB iPod touch and a 64 GB iPad. To me it'd be logical that they would step up the iPhone to 64 GB with the next generation model as soon as the 64 GB chips are out. (and maybe a 128 GB iPod touch as well, 128 iPad is probably next year with the retina display). Perhaps they will use the iCloud after that for storage, maybe keeping local storage as a cache. But that's further into the future, we really need unlimited data, 150 Mbit/s LTE advanced, and nationwide coverage before we can say local storage is dead.

iCloud is even more of a reason for Apple to add a 64gb option because the iCloud service will therefor be sending MORE content to your phone. It isn't a storage center that you tap into, its a relay center that sends all your files to all of your devices. I'd make a bet the the iPhone 5 will definitely have a 64gb option.
