Other than tech-setup challenges: How are folks who successfully set this up enjoying it? Is your email life better? (I currently have my Squarespace-generated, Google-admiinstered email running as its own account in Mac Mail, iOS Outlook, etc.) Are you finding this better than that sort of set-up? Was it worth the trouble, however much trouble you had setting it up?
So far so good. I used Google Workspace for my custom domain prior to this. The experience isn’t really much different except for better integration with Apple’s mail clients since it’s not using a hack-y implementation of IMAP like Gmail does. So for one it saves me money by not having to pay Google every month for the service. I also never have to think about how much space my mailbox is taking up anymore since I have 2TB of iCloud storage. Not that I was getting close to my 30GB limit on my Google Workspace account, but still, it’s nice not to have to even consider it anymore.

When you go to preferences (gear icon under iCloud Mail) do see the emails listed under accounts?

Also, when you create a new email, you can click the from address and it should give you a list of accounts to send from.

Not only do I not have those options, but my browser version of iCloud doesn’t look like that. The menus and format are different. FWIW I’m accessing it in safari on an iPad Pro. Here is what I see:

Update: now my iCloud mail in-browser looks like this…:

This is across multiple devices, both iOS and PC. It also crashes when I try and navigate the broken options. What the heck…

Just spent half an hour trying to get this working with no luck.
I was excited by this feature but the barrier for entry is far too high, guess I'll just pay for G suite!

You do realise this is just a Beta at this stage? I'm sure it'll be released to the public once the kinks are worked out.

If you change it to US does that make any difference? I noticed that some of the text for custom domains wasn't formatted correctly if I set it to UK.
That actually did work thanks so much for that tip. Corruption is gone, and now I can correctly see multiple accounts, and choose which one generates responses, as well as being able to set a default.

One final question for anyone: is there a way to have separate inboxes for each address, default iCloud and custom domain?

Also, I see that none of these options exist within iOS itself but are accessible only on beta icloud. I suppose this will be changed with the next release of iOS/iPadOS.

Thanks all!

Anyone able to set this up with a GoDaddy domain? When trying to finish the setup, it keeps saying “Check your SPF record”
I had to wait 20 min and try again. Took a bit to populate (Be sure not to use the ")

Forgive me for the dumb questions. I'm kindof a "monkey see, monkey do" level of expertise in setting up domains. I do it once a decade and just do what I'm told. :)

The apple instructions specify the MX records (which I'm sure won't be an issue) but they also define a cname record and two TXT records which is why I'm a bit worried, but you've talked me off the ledge.

not dumb questions, always good to learn.

The TXT records are just text and would have to be specifically looking for them.

So I successfully setup my custom domain name and it works flawlessly to receive messages. But I don’t see anywhere to send messages, both on beta.icloud.com and on my iOS 15 beta devices. I search in my iCloud Mail settings like some people proposed, but my custom domain email adress isn’t there, only my iCloud (and aliases) account. Do some people have found a fix for that? I tried to sign out and sign in on beta.icloud.com too, no luck so far

Look at the screenshots I posted earlier.
