I'm now able to add domains that I'd previously added then removed. It's a bit messy though - there are some domain aliases listed in icloud email preferences that aren't listed in the account settings custom domain setup, so I'm not sure how I can remove them. Also, I get the error "This email is already in use with another Apple ID" if I try to set up an email address that's currently used for my other iTunes/App Store Apple ID.
I have the same problem, that some of the aliases that I had added a couple weeks back, then removed, are now listed in the Mail app settings. They are not listed in the custom domain setup, and cannot be removed.

I'm also having this issue. I added and removed 2 domains and both emails are showing on my devices and on iCloud beta. I have them removed from my account on iCloud beta but they still show on my devices and I can still send and receive email on them even though I deleted the domain.

I'm also having an issue where I cannot set a name for my custom domain email. It comes through as user@domain.net instead of First Name Last Name <user@domain.net>

How does Apple deal with SPF and DKIM? Wondering if at one point, will Apple provide these information so that we can have them configured with our DNS.

When dealing with Business Email, there are couple other things such as Safelist/Blocklist, Group List, Aliases, etc. Also, a company may have more than 3 users, if not now but future. Therefore, I assume this customized domain email services from Apple are likely meant for families or professional or some freelancers, or small project team, etc.

Still, it is a very good move from Apple. Afterall, it is the easiest to use email without any setup. Basically, you just need to login to your Apple ID, and your Mail in MacOS, Mail in iOS, are automatically configured and work right away.

They already do. You're supposed to set a "v=spf1 redirect=icloud.com" TXT record and a CNAME for "sig1._domainkey" to "sig1.dkim.your.domain.at.icloudmailadmin.com".

However, last time I tested the outgoing emails still got signed with an unaligned signature always belonging to icloud.com instead of your domain. This will probably change soon.

But even without alignment you can already set a DMARC yourself if you want and of course use MTA-STS, because Apple's mail servers all support encrypted connections.

However, you're probably right this is meant for families and maybe freelancers, not for companies. The ease of use and having everything configured right away is definitely a big plus. Feels a lot more integrated. And it's already included in iCloud+ which I really like.

Thank you for sharing the setup in SPF and DKIM. I yet to get my Cloud+, will do so soon. Apple might also want to share some tips on how to combine multiple existing SPF record in future. Good to know that the DKIM are in place.

Agreed, users should also add in DMARC and MTA-STS. Guess, Apple will eventually find a way to ease the setting up of these pointing inside user's nameservers. It can be a wee challenging for users yet it is important to have.

Let's see

I have been waiting for years for this to become a thing. I have my domain purchased and ready to go, and am now waiting for the feature to come out of beta.

The main reason I’m doing this is due to the msssive amount of spam I get on a daily basis, better privacy and security, and I want to be able to easily hide my email address from all of the sites I use to stop future spam. I also wanted to do this so I can have seperate email addresses for me, my partner and future children to use.

At the moment, I use my iCloud.com email address, which is where I get the spam. But I want to delete this, and only use the new email. Is this possible? As it won’t work for me if not, because if the email account is still active, I’ll still get the spam. I also don’t want to have to set up a new iCloud account for obvious reasons (iCloud photos, purchases and the like.)

Hope this makes sense.

It really come back to how well Apple's Spam filter can work to block those Spam messages. The Hide-Email features is for privacy and unfortunately not for the purpose of stopping Spam, as you are still going to get those Spam mail, untill you remove the Hide-Email address you have.

Same for me. I kept seeing that others were not getting the ”too many hops” error and I thought that if tried setting up from scratch the error might go away. Instead, the site simply blocked me from setting up the domain again.

Not really a big deal for me since I was just experimenting with a spare domain.
Hey it works! Finally can send and receive from my custom iCloud domain.

I'm surprised they went through the effort of building this, I feel the intersection of people that know how to update DNS records on a domain and the people that want to use iCloud for email is extremely small.

I'd consider it if it wasn't so heavily tied into the Apple ID system - you can't add anyone to your domain email outside of your iCloud "family".
I'm also surprised, most people who know how to register a domain and edit the domain's DNS records can also figure out how to set up an email forwarder or use the one provided with their web hosting. That being said I would try this out if I had iCloud Plus (I don't), as it seems more convenient then the current hosting I have set up to get email via custom domains, but my current hosting also allows me to create SMTP credentials to send email via a custom SMPT application - my guess is Apple doesn't understand that those of us with custom domains are also the type more likely to want that kind of advanced functionality.

I think you misunderstand. I want to actually delete my original iCloud alias and start again with my new addresses.
Also with hide my email, if I do start to get spam I only need to delete the fake forwarding address

I work as a freelancer and in addition to e-mail in icloud, I have two own domains: the first for family and the second for business.
I connected the family domain - it works great.
I would also like to connect a company one, but I wonder what about current e-mails that are currently on external hosting? To keep them, I understand that I would have to transfer them first, e.g. using Mail on a Mac, to my primary account in iCloud, and then connect the company domain to iCloud?
Custom domains work as aliases, so if I want to distinguish between company and private e-mails after migration, then only with rules and folders?
It is a pity that the Mail application does not even have labels that can be used to mark e-mails, as it is in Gmail

At the end of the day, was this 'custom domain' additional only to allow users to add up to 3 email aliases that drops into their @iCloud.com address?

Is there a way to email forward on the server side (before it hits your device)? For instance, if I have email@customdomain.com... can I forward that address to 1@gmail.com and 2@gmail.com?

Yes, you can setup a forwarding rule like this in mail settings at icloud.com

Did you have to do anything specific as plus addressing not working on my domain?
No, it just works now on both of my domains.

My feedback assistant feedback was marked as resolved since, so I guess Apple considers it resolved. I guess try and submit feedback if it’s still not working for you?

Hope they'll up the limit on aliases for the custom domain when this exits beta, or even ideally support wildcard aliases

Yep, only three ones is too little but I think they won't raise it. Regular ones are also limited to three ones only. You can work around with creating a new iCloud account, add it to your family and create three additional ones there. Create server based forwarding rules to your regular address.

Yup, that's a way to get around it, though creating another account is a lot of work just to make an alias. Plus this assumes that someone has space for an additional family member, which I do not.

Just seen that custom domains has moved to the live site at icloud.com. And the new mail web interface.

I hope since custom domains can now be accessed outside of the beta site that we can get support for issues we have in setting it up. I still can't finish the domain setup because adding existing email addresses gives me an error message of "There was a problem adding this email address. Try again later." It's been that way since the first weekend it launched in beta. My domain email address was used as the Apple ID so the issue is probably related to that. I really think there is just something wrong with my account where the custom email domain feature just won't work for me. I even bought the .net version of my domain to see if it would add and get the same error message.

I am able to send and receive via the custom domain, but I can't switch my Apple ID to the new email address. I get a "Alias email cannot be added as primary email." It seems surprising that an iCloud hosted email address can't be used as the Apple ID, no? But perhaps you are having the converse problem as you indicate.

Painted myself into a weird box: I'm still using an old iTunes/App purchases-only account (predated iCloud) in addition to my normal iCloud account. I'd really like to support iCloud+ custom domain under my normal iCloud account, but my purchases account-only account is at that particular alias.. so I'll need to change the purchases-only account email first.. but I'd also like to keep that at my domain still.

Not even sure the best approach to do this... migrate the purchases only acocunt off the domain, take over the domain with my primary iCloud acocunt, then add back the purchases only account as a family member? Apple really needs to allow for account merging for purchases after all these years, JFC.
