Right? I would hope that I could settle with my custom Apple domain and the take off my @icloud.com from My Apple ID because it’s being stuck to my profile along with my @gmail.com, imagine have 3 when costumes domains come out… no thanks
Sorry, don't get the last part. You have exactly one AppleID as login, which may have further aliases. Depending on your initial account setup it may be any domain or an iCloud login. I have my regular custom domain email address for logins on Google, iCloud, Microsoft. All of them provide the possibility to create accounts without their own domain suffix. But once created, it can not be changed anymore (except of Microsoft).

New betas but unfortunately still no words about this…

for me this will make me keep in iCloud or switching to GSuite.
Yeah, I'm also waiting eagerly to find out about it, so I can decide which host to dedicate to. I have @icloud.com as my Apple ID but primarily use my @gmail.com, but it has gotten lots of spam from bitcoin and I want to invest in a custom domain with many aliases to avoid this issue

Hooray! Its here!

Finally, but I'm struggling too. It doesn't recognize the DKIM entry...

Edit: Ok, it just took some time. Now, it works... no further issues; new mails arriving directly. They're also delivered to non beta OS (iOS and MacOS), unfortunately I can't send mail with this domain. But glad to see, new mails are arriving. Looks fine for me... Need to setup alias for my wife later.

Oh really? I can't get past the error in the screenshot in my last post. Can you post some screenshots from your end?

I see the same error in Edge on Windows and Safari on Mac. How did you get past that error?

Had no further issues with the process itself for the first domain, except of my 5min dns zone reload delay…

Second domain can‘t be confirmed atm, gives me error for wrong mx records…

Just started new Safari tab on beta.icloud.com, settings, own domain and added it. Defined all records, waited for the zone reload and done.

On the second domain it seems to hang, SOA is new and records are equal to the first one.

btw, now, the new domain (first one) is listed as mail alias that can be chosen to send from on iOS15.

Weird. For me it doesn't go beyond this step. Maybe they will roll it out for everyone eventually.

Exciting! I wonder… will it work through family sharing for those of us who share a domain with families? I imagine that’d be the only way to share a personal domain among users with separate iCloud accounts.

I absolutely love Fastmail, but if I could do this for free, it’s very tempting. But I have family members with Android.

you can define it as a personal domain or family one. Unfortunately it seems not to be possible to create aliases for family members as an administrator, probably everyone must define it for themself. My wife is at work, therefore I can‘t check the workflow for this…

Edit: Just seems to be overloaded; after klicking multiple times to approve my second and third domain it finally worked. Unfortunately I'm unable to create some domain based aliases. Furthermore it would be great to create lists with multiple family members.

Ah, logging out and then logging back in worked. Setting up the DNS now. Instructions seem quite easy, as expected with Apple

mxtoolbox reports that all TXT, CNAME & MX records are correct. Maybe just slow DNS propagation.

Works fine here, if you have control on the other site - check if there're SPF issues due to DNS caching or sth. similar...
For the DKIM CNAME record, did you add "sig1._domainkey" or "sig1._domainkey.domain.tld"?

For the DKIM CNAME record, did you add "sig1._domainkey" or "sig1._domainkey.domain.tld"?
it needs to resolve to the domain:
e.g.:

;; ANSWER SECTION:
sig1._domainkey.foobar.ch. 3600 IN CNAME sig1.dkim.foobar.ch.at.icloudmailadmin.com.

Depending on your customers interface it may be a subdomain as 'sig1._domainkey' with the value of 'sig1.dkim.foobar.ch.at.icloudmailadmin.com.'.

Its till quite buggy, which is understandable
1. The initial verification email from apple never arrives. I was only able to add my email because my custom domain email was already verified.
2. The scripts running in the background are not quite robust. eg, when I added my initial domain mail@contoso.com, it added this as an Alias in iCloud email. But when I removed it and added it again it didn't appear as an alias, so I couldn't send emails from this ID. When I added a second email mail1@contoso.com, it added that as a valid Alias and I was able to send emails from it.

I hope Apple comes up with a feedback site/tool for this.

Be careful. Any custom email alias that you delete once cannot be added again for sending. Most likely a bug. The custom domain section accepts that email, but it is not added as an alias in mail so you cannot send emails from it.

Also, (at least for now), it seems you're limited to 3 email addresses per domain.
