12.9" is unwieldy and simply loses the convenience of what the iPad is about

And it's impossible to use in portrait, which I use when reading and sitting half the time
I have to totally disagree with you... Different strokes I guess. I use my 12.9 for everything and have no issue with it being unwieldy. Totally convenient for me as well. Goes everywhere that I would need an iPad with no issue. It isn't that much bigger or heavier really.

It weighs more than the original iPad LMAO

I suppose you and I different, I prefer the iPad to be lightweight and thinner for ease of handling and portability and don't think it should get heavier and heavier, but that's just me

Sounds like an iPad mini is more your style than a 12.9 Pro! It's obviously a trade off on what people want and they do make 3 models, so people have choices.

Depends what you need. If you leave it at home and would enjoy the larger screen then do it.
I couldn't travel with the 12.9" safely and since the 9.7" has a better screen and everything I want except 4GBs of RAM I'm going to stick with what I've got.

I don't understand this.

Both my wife and I travel with a 12.9" iPad - and neither find it a bother at all.

It's not difficult at all to travel with...even coming from an iPad Air 2..

Personally, it's not travel where I'd have an issue with a bigger iPad. Heck, I bring a 15" laptop with me when I travel. It's daily usage where it's not so portable. My purse can easily hold the 7.9" mini or just barely fit the 9.7" model. My iPad goes with me almost everywhere. Can't do the same with the bigger Pro.

Ohh, yeah- if you were accustomed to sticking a tablet in your purse, I could understand that.

I generally just carry mine, like if I had a hardcover book. Sometime I have a back pack.

My wife has a bag she sticks hers in.

I have an iPad 4 and bought the iPP 12.9 when it went on sale after the 9.7 was announced. Like others, at first I thought it was too big, but I am totally used to it now. My old iPad 4 looks tiny in comparison nowadays. It's not that heavy, a couple pounds with a case. The screen and speakers are great if we want to watch TV or a movie in bed once in a while.
I don't use it for anything but consumption and other useless things, so I can't say if it could replace my laptop, because I haven't had a laptop for years. It don't think it could replace my Mac at this point, but who knows.
I was all set to get the 9.7 iPP (I was never really interested in the 12.9 when it was announced), but a 12.9 sale prompted me to go check it out, and I couldn't resist. I am glad I did, because I wouldn't have known what I was missing.

I have purses that fit the iPad mini, but none are big enough for the 9.7 iPads. The bags I was using to carry 9.7 iPads are large enough to fit the 12.9. So for me, it wasn't like I had to buy a new bag to carry the 12.9, just a matter of becoming used to my bag being slightly heavier than before.

My purses can't fit the older iPads but the reduction in size with the Air got it to the point where it just about fits inside my purses. :D

Do you travel in a vehicle or backpack across country? If I tried putting the 12.9" iPad in my backpack it would bend and take up a lot of space not to mention its heavy. 9.7" fits comfortably in my smaller shoulder bag with my other important documents and such.

Larger Screen, faster CPU/GPU, and 4GB RAM makes this an easy choice. iPad Pro 9.7" has True Tone, better camera, and display (and the display isn't exactly putting the larger one to shame either, colors or more saturated and it's brighter).... but that's about it. So I'll take performance over gimmicks anyday.

Kal.

I wouldn't call all of those things you mention that the 9.7 does better as gimmicks. But I agree that the speed, CPU and extra RAM are very enticing.

Across country?

Usually I just travel from home to work or school. And of course from this room to that room/to sit outside with the dogs.

I have two backpacks - one for work, and one for school. My work one is filled with supplies I need, but has a laptop compartment..I usually just stick the iPad Pro in there. It's slim enough and doesn't cause any issues..I also carry a 12" macbook sometimes, but that fits in a tablet compartment up front, ironically.

If I had to backpack across the country, and low weight was critical, I would probably have stuck with an iPad mini.

I've had my share of 9.7" iPads in the past I got a mini 1 and loved it, had a flirt with MacBooks then went Windows again because of poor gaming performance on said MacBook... and mini 2 as you have to have an iPad.

Recently if I game it's console or light iPad games thus my laptop never gets used and the mini for constant use felt small so... I got the 12.9" Pro and I couldn't be happier.

I use to take my macbook pro to coffee shops. The iPad Pro in your head thinking about it is way bigger than the reality of it.

Did you end up getting rid of the mini when you bought the IPP? I am thinking of buying the mini and I already have a 12.9" IPP but I just want something tiny to bring around with me when I start doing clinical rotations. I also already have an iPhone 6s Plus so I'm not sure if I would get much use of it. If you still have the mini, do you still use it?

See sig ☺️

Yeah I'm keeping the mini 2. I had a 6+ at one point and sold my last mini 2... I regretted it and got another. Not making that mistake this time. I have a parka style jacket and it fits in the pocket. If I had one iPad only it would still be the mini and I'd use my laptop for big screen stuff.

The iPad Pro is pretty new to me and it is breathtaking. It needs a little sibling in the house too ☺️

Yeah, the brightness and camera not gimmicks (actually no, the camera kind of is gimmicky since it's in a 10" tablet, WTHeck? I personally have never seen anyone take photos using a big tablet, lol.) Also True Tone will always be a gimmick to me, I see no point to it at all. I like sketching and drawing on bright white 100% of the time, not variations of white depending on where I am. So yeah the brightness and display of the 9.7" is nice, but the rest is gimmicky to me.

If I need to shoot photos, I'm taking out my iPhone 6s Plus, not the iPad Pro 12.9"... Just sayin'
True for photos but the big reason they put the nice cameras on iPad is cause professionals use them like to coach teams or record someone's technique when swinging a bat and then like you learn how to be better. It was in a ad awhile ago I think it was a iPad Air ad

Not sure. I want to say the 9.7" iPad, since the 12.9" Pro seems freakishly large to me and I love the size of the 9.7" iPad, but at the same price, I might want to try the larger one.

Side note, I hate that we can't just say "Air" and "Pro" anymore to differentiate between the two different sized iPads.

They make cameras that are far more suited to that than the iPad Pro 12.9" or 9.7". Something like an iON will do the trick and you can tether it to your iPhone or iPad by WiFi. The cameras in our iPads just aren't made for that swinging of the bat.
