I still don't see why EVERYONE through their great ancestors is waiting for a re-designed keyboard.

I understand if someone has had problems and had to deal with Apple to get it fixed.

But for the vast majority who haven't had problems like me (so far), this keyboard is the bees knees.

I'm on a 2019 15" MacBook Pro and I LOVE this keyboard. I don't see myself going back to the one in my late 2013 rMBP.

I also use a 2017 12" MacBook from time to time and that keyboard isn't as nice as my 2019 15" but it's still just fine. I wouldn't mind using it daily at all.

Now if I end up in the Apple store with keyboard trouble, I'll take everything I said in this post back haha :)

Exactly this.

I had 4 repairs done on my keyboard, with now the E key much brighter than rest of the keyboard. I brought it to apple thinking something shifted under the key, but they said its about to go out? Thus having to do ANOTHER repair, but they said they will swap out the machine with a similar new one (would need to be built to order since my current one has 16gb of ram while the new one thats top of the line is only 32gb in store!).

I then saw that the '19 macbook pros are also on the repair program, thus making me just keep my current macbook pro that the E key backlight is about to go out soon. I am definitely waiting for the 16" which is rumored to NOT have the butterfly keyboard. When that gets released, im returning back and paying the difference for that one since there a good chance apple fixed the design flaw instead of tweaking it and not going with a complete redesign of the uppercase.

My boyfriend thinks that i am overeating to the sticky keys, but i think its ridiculous that I own a $4k device (includes apple care and NYC tax) and it isnt perfect. Little things bother me, but i understand if someone hasnt had any issues VS me who has.

Dave2D’s reviews are always very objective. He was the one who first brought up to attention the thermal limitations of the i9 MacBook Pro.
In my opinion he is, together with Marques, the best tech youtuber out there.

Thanks much for the feedback!

My E key is brighter as well. What did they say when you went?

It doesn’t bother me

They said it requires another keyboard/battery/uppercase replacement. Mine is super super bright so it annoys me

I don't think there's been any rumours at all about the cost of this MacBook Pro, its all guess work and that's pretty much always the case for Apple kit. You can make assumptions based on last year's models of iPhones in particular, but there's very little reason for prices to leak ahead of launch. Even names can be kept pretty well under wraps until near keynote time, but prices? Nobody knows.

What I'm most curious about is will the new keyboard have the current arrow key setup or the inverted T from pre 2016 (that good PC makers still use today..Thinkpad/XPS).

I hope they just take the 2015 keyboard, drop in TouchID where the power button is, and make the trackpad bigger.

We still got no news about this... Still hoping we get Navi fro these laptops.. I was looking forward to push the trigger on the 16" come x-mas but it sounds like I'll be saving my money until next year.

We rarely get ‘news’ on the macs. Just rumours which do tend to pan out. I too am hoping for Navi but the likelihood is low. If not I am going to be very tempted by the Nvidia creator laptops out now / coming out.

Man I don't wanna go back to Windows.. I love Windows and everything but as a Database/SAP basis I rely A LOT on the Mac terminal and it's base being Linux not just that but I just screw around the Mac terminal so I don't forget the commands lol.

There's a lot of reasons I "wanna stay" in the Mac.. Not just because of iMessage and what not but already have the whole VM setup process done..

But I don't know let's wait for the 16" to judge

yep, just wait it out and see where we are at. I have little expectation but that it will be the first iteration of the next MBP's, so really it will be along the same lines as all other previously. A well designed machine that works for most people - not a workstation, not a gaming machine, not a 2 in 1, but a great allrounder.

I also don't think the price is going to be higher than the current 15" or not by much anyway.

We will see......

For me it would be perfect if they would just stick with the price as it is right now.. Just bring in Vega or Navi as base thou.. Freaking done with 555x or 560x.. Ain't buying that in 2019.

I agree about the 555x-560X

I refuse to buy those absolute specs... there’s a Vega 16 refurb with my name on it if it’s still there when I’m ready to buy

The thing that hurts me pocket wise is that I only require base MBP 13 performance but need a 15 inch screen

Given the magnitude of the number of speculations that the obsessed in this (and other) thread(s), it should surprise no one that some of the speculations end up being correct. I bet if I looked hard enough, someone has speculated on the type of screw that retains the bottom cover.

Put another way; even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometime. Or perhaps in this case, I should say that even a blind nut finds a squirrel sometime?

:)

Stick a piece of granola under the key. Not only will it lessen that bright key but it will bring a nice crunch to the key that will feel nicer typing on it than before.
Lmao!!!

I actually thought about switching out my E key too bc of this but now no way. Can’t believe they have to change so much!!!!
I mean, at least you get a new battery. But after the replacement — it won’t be the same. That’s when I started having more frequent issues — after the first replacement

Which is basically it.. Honestly let's wait and see if the October event does happen.

Of course it is in doubt... Apple is under no obligation to do anything just because they have done it in the past. To think that Apple will continue to do anything just because they have done it in the past is flawed thinking. Let’s think in terms of probabilities instead of absolutes. One could argue with > 50 (or some number n less than 100) % confidence that Apple will release a new laptop design in October, but one can not argue this point with 100% confidence without appearing a bit out of touch with reality.

Joe

OK now there is already doubt that October may never happen ?
Come on ... its the fourth year and the time is due .

Well Joe.. Let's wait and see if there's an event.. Folks at 9to5Mac do believe it's gonna happen.

Us Prosumers do need some new beefy machine I'm really just worried that they'll recycle the Vega GPUs as base

Man I'd love it if the 16" model has improved thermals, a more easy to replace battery, and different keyboard (with function and physical escape keys + Touch Bar)!

First words out of such a Frankenstein monstrosity would be something like, “gaghgahg ... kill me ... please ... gaghagah!”
