Blah, the Incredible. No thanks. My brother is getting that. He has a Motorola Droid now. Nice but hate the keyboard. Really don't like the interface either.

HTC uses their own keyboard that is supposed to be better from what I udnerstand...If not there are a few keyboards you can install from the market.

Trust me higher definition screens are much nicer. Higher resolution screens really do make a difference if looked at side by side when playing video at each media players max potential. Thats the one way the zune hd is better then the ipod touch, its oled screen.

If the iPhone had higher resolution there would be more pixels used to make the image. Sense the screen is the same size each individual pixel is smaller, so the pixels themselves become less visible on the screen. This can result in a better looking picture.

Packing more pixels in a smaller scream means a crisper, more life like image. Way better than the current screen. Plus, my guess is - the output will be now be better for HDTV. Trying that with the previous/current versions would have produced a pretty crappy picture.

The more pixels, the better the picture.

I understand the concept of higher resolutions. My point is, at a distance of 1-2 feet I can't even see individual pixels on my iPhone. It follows the same concept as this chart http://www.lowtek.ca/roo/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/resolution_chart.png As you increase the resolution of the screen at a fixed size (same or smaller even like the iPhone) your viewing distance needs to be closer and closer for the effects to really be noticable.

As far as outputting to an external screen... Not going to be better than HDMI out whatever it is.

As for people commenting about Sprint and data usage... Umm... It's my phone. I have FiOS at home so I don't need it as a dedicated line. I can use it when I'm on the go with any of my laptops or netbooks. I'm even going to keep my iPhone 3G so I can have a 4G iPhone. :p

You don't need to be close to see the difference between the ailing 3G/3GS screen, compared to a screen of much higher resolution. It's clearly crisper and more vivid. The result of more pixels on the screen.

There is a big difference.

My perspective as a former AT&T/ iPhone 3GS owner and a current Sprint/ Android owner is as follows. The iPhone is a great piece of machinery on a horrible and overpriced network. Android has been lacking in the OS department, but has finally gotten it right with android 2.1. HTC builds it's phones with great quality and is second only to apple. Sprint has the best customer service I have seen, they will let you as a customer walk all over them, this is due mostly to the old stigma. As far as network, Verizon and Sprint are the same. I travel for work and my partner uses a verizon droid. From North Carolina to California on I40 our signal was virtually the same.
Sprint has got it guys. A great network, a great price, and now finally a great phone.

I love apple and if Sprint were to get the next version iPhone. I would have some serious thinking to do. But what they are about to do, is release the first real competition ever for the iPhone.

By the way this was posted from my iPad tethered to my Sprint HTC Hero. Love it!

I wouldn't say big... I mean... The Droid has one of the best screens on the market right now but it's nothing worth upgrading for over what the 3G/s has.

Personally... I think it's another bogus "upgrade" like the 3G->3Gs upgrade. A higher res screen (just like most other phones on the market) is not much.

Combining that with the other new features like better camera, extra camera and faster processor... You're still behind the EVO.

Basically it's going to come down to software. The EVO hardware is spec'd better and I find it much better looking too. Also, I've used my brother's Hero and I really like the Sense UI. I like it as much as the iPhone UI. There may not be the same apps... but I can write my own and install them without a $99/year fee.

Yeah, I have been reading about Sprint's network. Apparently they will let you roam on Verizon for free however you get edge for data. Nothing wrong with that. I sometimes turn off 3G on my Iphone to save on battery.

I posted this on another thread, but it's good here as well. The EVO like the incredible will be getting a different screen i.e. chip for processing touch. Here is a comparison video of the N1 versus the Incredible.

I think HTC has got it right with the EVO and yeah the Iphone has serious competition. The ONLY thing I see going for the Iphone versus the EVO now is the app store. I for one find most of the apps in the app store to be garbage or redundant. Yes, I do have a lot of apps on my phone. At first they are neat but then I find myself hardly ever using anything other than Facebook, IM+, and maybe a game here or there. Maybe I am just getting old, but most of the games don't keep my attention for very long.

It's not Edge... but yea. The high speed networks aren't compatible. Still, that's good. My iPhone is on Edge unless I need the speed boost or have a weak signal. Then I use SBSettings to turn 3G on. I'm perfectly happy with having 4G then falling back to 3G and then falling back to Sprint's low speed and then falling back to Verizon's low speed. With all that coverage I'll most certainly have data. Even on the metro! :)

I also found that the sms apps you can download and use for free are pretty sweet. It pulls the pic for the person you are smsing from Facebook or you can use a custom pic whatever. It's awesome!

Oh and you can change the sms tone to a custom if you want as well. I know it's like revolutionary isn't it?!

Whatever makes you happy :)

I can understand the huge bezel on the Ipad. It is a long heavy device that needs a firm grip. The Iphone I can hold by the sides and most of the time do. Why waste the space with a bezel the size for an Ipad on a PHONE. It makes no sense to me and seems tacky. It makes the Iphone look very dated when compared to other devices that maximize the surface area of the screen. They can put whatever screen Apple wants with whatever resolution and it will look outdated because of the wasted space.

I love my iPhone 3GS jailbroken and customer to the max... Everything I could possibly want in a phone (right now) because it's the best out there right now... However when the evo comes out there is going to have to be a serious upgrade on the iPhone 4 to make me get it over the evo.

A higher resolution screen means nothing on a phone I the screen isn't bigger... The resolution on the evo is better and almost a full inch bigger with full HD video nice 720p and 8mp camera with live streaming video... The ui is sick smooth multitouch and the apps... Give it time it will catch up

Too bad it's on Sprint. Lol.

Sprint's not bad especially considering they let you roam on Verizon for free. So you have their network and verizons... It's a win win. I DO remember the days my wife had Sprint back in 2006 and it was HORRIBLE! I put her on my plan with Verizon asap. She had dropped called non stop. However things have changed a lot since then. Her parents have Sprint and never have a dropped call... Same location same carrier, no dropped calls.

Anyway saw that Android hit the 50k app mark today. I don't think it will slow down anytime soon.

Well, I guess it depends on where you are. I live and work in Manhattan and AT&T has been a nightmare. Actually, the reception where I live has improved - I usually get about 3 bars now when I get reception, which is about 50% of the time - instead of nothing. But where I work (the World Trade Center area), I'm lucky to get any data signal at all. And when I do (about 30% of the time), it takes, and I'm not exaggerating, literally two minutes for one web page to download. It is excruciating. And to add insult to injury, for this I've been paying $160 to $180 a month for the family plan for me and my partner? There is no way in hell I am signing another two year contract with AT&T. I've had Sprint here in the past, and it was nowhere near as bad as AT&T. And even if they were just as bad, at least I wouldn't have to pay premium prices for it.

Yeah I heard that before, but always thought it was the large buildings that block the signal. So Sprint works in NYC? That's weird man. I would think of all places ATT would focus a decent amount of attention to NYC.

No, the AT&T rep in NYC is mud. It's widely considered the worst of the carriers here. They have been supposedly trying to improve it since they have had such a huge amount of complaints (and the CEO of AT&T recently admitted as much), and I have seen improvement at home, but it still has a looooong way to go.

I mean seriously. There have been times when I have been in Times Square or 42nd Street and have not been able to get any kind of signal at all. Ridiculous.

Yeah my brother has the Iphone in NYC and it's one dropped call after another.

On another note, wonder if Apple will problems with yellow screens that plagued the 3g/3Gs/Ipads? I had to exchange my Iphone 3Gs 3 times to get a normal screen....and it still had a yellow tinge on the bottom part of the screen.

No, it's a huge difference. Having a higher-res screen, even at the iPhone's current screen size, makes a big difference in usability. You're able to zoom out and see more of a page or zoom in the same and have everything be far sharper. I have a Nexus One, and setting it down to my roommate's iPhone 3GS makes the iPhone's screen look like it is from the stone age.

Cool. Well I'd still rather have higher res and a larger screen. :)

Well i can not compare droid and iPhone resolutions because i have not spent enough time with the droid but comparing the zune hds screen to iPod touches the difference is giant.

I was all for the bigger screen until I put my coworkers HD2 in my pocket. Really uncomfortable. As excited as I was looking at the screen I was even more depressed thinking that anywhere I go I either have to clip it or hold it. The purported resolution of the new iPhone is better than the EVO 4G.

As far as processors- folks, the Snapdragon processor is good but a relatively inexpensive, if quick, chip. My boss' Droid felt faster and far more reliable than the Nexus One I briefly owned. I had to restart that thing several times until I got rid of it. I'd say the quality of the chip in the new iPhone will be better.

Most people haven't had any issues with the quality of the the Snapdragon processor. We also don't have hardly any info about the next iPhone's chip.
