I'm actually happy if all these people saying they will leave make good on their word. Might help clear out all the whining thats been plaguing this forum recently.

Oh god. Enough with this innovation. Like anything in life the iOS started missing an incredible amount of things. Over time it's going to stabilize and slow down. When the 3G came out no one complained it was plastic, no one complained the 3GS was the same. Then the 4 came out and it was so different it blew minds, then came bandwagon apple users with the 4S too.. Now everyone is annoying. Your just foolish, they won't be screwed, not one bit. It's incredible people could complain this much over a phone. What more do you want. The 4 inch screen is there, it looks like an updated apple product, they changed the USB, added a bigger mic/speaker, bigger screen.. If you don't like it, dont get it. Sigh

This. Times 10.

That's actually a good point. Can't wait to see. Then again, there's always the alternate device forum.

This is probably that most lame argument ever, and I don't know how much more we're going to hear it. God forbid apple made something a little bigger than 3.5 inches, all of a sudden its a brick?

i think he was talking about the android phones being 4.5" + and he does not want that.

Whoever wrote that article like Android phones and Samsung more than Apple.

Will that mean the phone fails? No. These people should just enjoy there Android phones and realise people go with IOS as it's simple, quality and Apple products are streaks ahead of the rest in quality.

I've yet to see one Android phone I like. That article says they look great I disagree all I see is massive screens, slow sluggish OS support and an app store that's miles behind Itunes.

I'm not some sort of fan person i use to buy Sony Ericssons but as a 4S owner I will probably buy whatever Apple release next as I love IOS and can't wait for IOS6. I bet if this is the Iphone Apple can make it seem the best phone ever at there press conference.

And it is a big redesign, new materials and larger screen. We had the Iphone, 3G one and 3GS all with the same form factor. There's alot more about those pictures that's different unlike the 4/4S which are identical.

People should know by now Apple don't just change designs for the sake of it like Samsung and other companies.

I can't down vote your post but I can rate your thread.

p.s. It didn't do well.

It's weird that so many people feel the only way a phone can be different is because of its design.

Maybe Apple will fail if there are so many people like this. I'll try and get my hands on one though :)

They should bring back the down button as there's some right Anti Apple stuff on here.

This is defo a - post.

Now this is the kind of comment that I hate...

"Goodbye you wont be missed"...

So, because he has an opinion different than yours, he should go away?

No, we're wishing him farewell and good luck with his new choice in platform because he has an opinion different from many, and insists that it's the only correct opinion.

He's also trying to get a rise when he "threatens" to switch to Android. As if we're going to quake in our boots and beg him to stay. Sorry, he's only the 9 millionth person to do that here. It's not shocking anymore. Neither are the countless backsliders who come back after getting "bored" with the Android devices.

Then there's the "Apple doesn't innovate anymore" comment, which we hear over and over. Because doing what everyone else is doing in the smartphone market and coming out with impractically larger and larger screens is somehow considered "innovation" now.

It's a shame because "innovation" has become a meaningless buzzword now. Over time it'll be as worthless and devoid of meaning as "synergy," and "disrupting the market."

I guess the only way to really respond to a cliche is another cliche: people need to stop obsessing over whether the gadget in their pants is big enough, and focus on the usability of the device, which iOS continues to have plenty.

I see that kind of comment too often around here!

Only because we see "OMG Apple is doomed I'm going to Android!" too many times around here.

I agree and disagree with the Original Poster... First, I won't switch, even if I do not like the new iPhone because I do not like Android (tried it, but it wasn't for me). I have had every model of the iPhone and owned one since launch day of the first gen iPhone.

I do not care if the phone looks like the iPhone 4/4S at all. That doesn't bother me. If we get a larger screen, I would prefer that it keeps the same aspect ratio of the current iPhone.

My Reasoning: If the phone is only taller (all based off rumors)... We get a 5th row of icons, so nothing on the home screens is easier to read. It doesn't make text any bigger when using apps or surfing the web. Yes, I can see more on the screen, but that has not ever been an issue for me. Also, I do not watch videos on my phone, so I will not benefit from 16x9.

That is why I would like the phone to stay with its current aspect ratio while getting bigger. This will make everything larger and easier to see/read/touch (typing for people with bigger fingers, I do not have this problem, but my dad does).

If the aspect ratio remained the same, and the screen was 4+ inches... I would not care if they still used the form factor of the iPhone 4/4S.

...that is only a testing version of the phone (if is real) the final design will be a lot much better.

iPhone 5 will be a rare beauty.

OP: I respect your opinion, after all a phone/company is not a "girlfriend", and you can switch for whatever you want whenever you want to, but to be fair we still dont know what the next iphone will look like, all the leak could still be disinformation by apple :)

Well read he got his opinion then i got mine opinion!

And I kind of see his comment too often around here as well!

I like the design. Especially the elongated screen. I'm a content consumer on my iPhone. A longer screen will allow more content to be shown in portrait and wider videos in landscape. Seems logical enough to me. Bring it on.

You've been here since 2006. You know that won't happen.

why "innovate" when you already dominate? ;)

more seriously, stop whining. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Your opinions are not law, nor do we care if you go android. I hope you do (all of you), so that :apple: isn't backed up with pre-orders. This topic of the new iPhone has singlehandedly shone a VERY bright light on how selfish, simple, and idiotic most people really are.

agreed. I never use landscape unless taking a video

No matter what, Apple will not fail based on this phone design. A few people here might not like it, but most of America and the World who own an iphone now will line up on day 1.

These slight revisions will make the phone a best seller for sure. All I wanted was LTE, and a slightly larger screen even if it does look like the 4/4S. I will be a happy camper.... i just hope it can be jailbroken!

I agree, no matter what, it will probably be the Highest selling iPhone... More and more people are moving to smart phones who do not already have one. If T-Mobile or US Cellular picks up the iPhone (along with Carriers in other countries who do not have the iPhone yet), it will increase sales.

The main thing for me: I want LTE with a battery that can handle it. EVERY single one of my close friends that have a 4G LTE phone... They barely ever use it because it kills the battery. Yet, they still try to tell me their phone is better than mine because my AT&T iPhone 4S uses HSPA+. I do not understand their argument.

I am out of contract and happy with my iPhone 4S (got it using my Girlfriend's Upgrade, gave her my iPhone 4). I look forward to seeing what the new phone truly has to offer.

Ask BlackBerry how they feel about that now.

I'm waiting to see the actually phone running the new OS before I decide but I'm really thinking about the S3 or the Note2. I'm just tired of the same ole same and want to try something new.

I also want a larger screen because I use more of the smart functions than I do using my smartphone as a phone for voice calls but I will still give the new iPhone a chance before deciding.

I agree with the article. Been waiting for the next iphone before I buy my first smartphone, but I'm leaning towards the S3. The purported elongated screen size for the new iphone is just plain weird and makes no sense design wise or in a utilitarian way. I have small hands but the S3 feels much more comfortable in my hand than the brick design of the 4s. The only logical argument for Apple to do this half assed is because they don't want a larger iphone screen cannibalizing their ipad and possibly new mini-ipad sales. If so, then they should just keep the same dimensions as the 4s, because this just reeks of design by compromise in the worst ways.

A lot of people on these boards apologizing for Apple's fear of design innovation don't realize that's exactly how Jobs reinvigorated Apple in the nineties with all their products. It's only been in the last five/ten years that they've really changed philosophically on design by changing it very incrementally for branding and marketing purposes.

Either way, if these leaks are true, Apple have really lost the edge of being design innovators by depending much more on marketing to ensure value on their products.

Either way, I've been using Apple computers since the IIe and have always been appreciative of their OS compared to Windows. I just think that the people on these boards excusing Apple dragging their feet on design by saying that it's not important or it's superficial or that it's already perfect are people who became fans of Apple with the iphone launch but don't really see that their constant innovation on design in the eighties and nineties is what positioned them to be become so successful in the last decade. I think if they keep relying on marketing and hype they will definitely lose their core base. They are already losing so many professional users in their computer market which was the base that supported them into their current success.

Personally I think it looks great. If this is it I'm ordering the black version the day it's for sale. I was wondering how a subjective article like this got past BI's chief editor, but apparently that's the guy who wrote it

Anyhow, I disagree with business insider and with the OP. If the iPhone 5 really looks like this, it's going to sell in truckloads.

It's half an inch bigger. Bigger isn't always better, all those other phones offer the bigger screen because they need to differentiate, there's so much more to a phone. I don't get why it's that big of a deal. Look at big screen TV's. We Got rid of ours when flat panels came. A 4 inch retina over a 4.3-8 non-retina. Easy choice

The Samsung S3 and HTC One X are Retina, they actually have a higher pixel density then the retina screen on the 4S. I cant believe some Apple fanboys and how far thy will go to defend an inferior product. I love my Apple gear and i am a huge Apple fan but im not stupid enough to defend a clearly inferior product. Apple will still sell the new iPhone like hotcakes but slowly they will lose market share, i already know of at least 3 Apple Fanboys not including myself that have made the change.

Funny btw how folks keep whingeing about how it looks like the 4S. It only looks like a 4S if you're half blind if you ask me. It looks as much like a 4S as a 3GS does.

All the complaints around here (and I've never seen so many for a new iPhone model) are mostly based on the half-assed attempt at enlarging the screen size to a modern, usable size but rather just stretching it vertically which gives you almost no benefit of a proper 4" screen.

If Apple had/will increase the screen size proportionally in both directions, the complaints around here would be half. The other half being the next iPhone appears to look just like the last one.

What's funny, though, is we'll all look the fool if Apple does a proper redesign this year and the leaks we've seen were for an abandoned 4S design.

BlackBerry comment is spot on. 5 to 6 years ago, they were the #1 dominate phone on the market, top of the food chain. But they rested on their laurels and played it safe, and lost market share each year, and now barely surviving. Apple could easily be in the same position in 5 years from now, if they just do incremental tweaks here and there, and just rely on the iSheep to buy from them. That will run it's course in due time a few years from now.
