For me:

Before reviews: 42mm Stainless Steel w/ black leather loop
After reviews: 42mm Space Grey Aluminium Sports

Why?

  • Disliked the look of the leather loop having seen it in The Verge's video review
  • Reviews brought me down to earth a bit - while I originally thought spending the extra cash on nicer materials would be appropriate for something I wear on my wrist everyday, from a technical/functional perspective the watch does seem to require some evolution to make it shine, and I think that investment may be better served in a year or two
  • I didn't like the look of the Stainless Steel either - not nearly as nice as the Apple website makes it look and smudges are apparant
  • By buying the sports model, I can afford to buy my wife one too! She's said ok, so we'll both have one which will make it a bit more enjoyable to use as we can get more use of the watch-only features

Same boat here.
I reached the conclusion yesterday, but the reviews confirmed it

No the reviews haven't changed either my opinion of the watch or which one I'm going to get. I prefer to get my own watch and make my own judgement based on my own use.

No review has changed my mind. I'm getting the 42 MM sport (1st gen product so that's my limit)

I feel similarly to the OP.

It's now a toss up between the silver Sports with black strap, or the SS with black sports strap. Before the Verge video, the Sports wasn't even a consideration.

Yeah, im gonna pull back a bit:

Before: 42mm ss w/ sport band
After: 42 black sport

I don't have too many concerns over the reviews, except for one key point and that is the watch seems slow… I'm going to hate that if the case.

So we'll see once we get them. If i get a good feeling after using it for a month, ill reorder a SS model and ebay the sport.

Before: 42mm Stainless Steel with Milanese Loop
Now: waiting until after launch, then 42mm Space Gray Sport with Black Sport Strap (but I might go back to SS if it really improves with software updates)

I'm really concerned now that this 1st gen was too aggressive at throttling the cpu so that watch could have all-day battery life; my reasons were posted in the other thread I started about a potentially slow user interface.

Hope I'm wrong, but right now, I don't feel like I want to take that chance.

I think many of the reviewers made a good case as to it weaknesses and strengths and why it might be foolish to spend so much on a first gen device when next year we will probably see a much improved version. I for one was planning on getting the Space Black SS, but now I'm rethinking it. I can afford it, but do I really want to spend $1,200.00 for a watch that might be replaced with a better version next year? Spending a third of that on a sport is starting to sound like a better plan. That way I can see how it fits into my life and if I really like it and when they come out with a new version next year, I won't be selling the old watch and taking a $600 loss on it.

do you really think you'll take a $600 loss on it in one year? Especially for the black SS, which I doubt will be as abundant as the sport or SS?

if you buy the black SS for $1100 now, and sell in a year for $850 (assuming they do once per year updates), that's about $21/month loss. If you buy the sport now for $350 and sell for $230 in a year that's a $10/month loss. So basically, you're paying $10 per month difference in loss to have the one you actually want vs settling for the sport. For me, I'd rather have the nicer looking one if I'm going to have one at all.

(Of course, those numbers for loss are all made up. There might be more or less of a loss of value after one year. We won't know until that time comes)

Before reading it was a toss up between the Sport and the SS with Sport band, now I think I'm much more likely to go for the Sport. I'd rather upgrade to the next version (presuming there is one) than spend more and only have the first version.

The SS does look nice in the press shots from Apple, but it seems to smudge easily and scratches are more visible too. The aluminium is less like traditional jewellery (which, in my book, is a downside), but in the end, it's the same thing underneath.

It's a little bit silly, but if this was anything else other than an Apple product, I wouldn't think twice before buying the cheapest version.

Huge Apple fan but I cannot understand the point of this.

It is an expensive way to see who's texted you. . .and to decide whether or not to get out your phone to reply anyway.

Just get out your phone. . .and reply or not.

I've seen reviews 'saved me fumbling around for my phone'. . . .who in the name of the sweet lord FUMBLES around for their phone. It's in my pocket. Always. Always in my left pocket. No fumbling at all. Just reach in. . .pull it out. Reply to texts etc.

Waste of time and money.

The reviews didn't change my mine, still planning on picking up a 42mm SS with sport band and getting a Link bracelet later.

Bottom line is the Apple Watch is better than the watch I wear now and reviews only confirmed that.

Before reviews: 38mm SS w/ milanese
After reviews: 38mm SS w/ black sports

I am not sure I want to shell out the extra money on a nice band after the reviews; however, I think I will still go for the SS due to the sapphire screen.

Oh man is everyone going for the Sport now haha :(

YES! :D:D:cool::cool:

I was horrified that they used so many SS Links for the reviews because I feared everyone would want one. The reviews helped confirm my choice. The SS Link looked GREAT.

I will be rocking that SS Link in my First Class seat to Berlin in May!

I was on the fence between the SS and the sport but seeing the reviews helped make my final decision. Space Grey Sport with extra white band. Crossing fingers at 3.01am tomorrow night I'm one of the lucky ones to get in on the 24th

The reviews really just made me want the watch that much more.

38mm SS with classic buckle before and after reviews.

The reviews solidified my view that I don't like SS, other then that, seems Siri is limited like I thought, but works surprisingly well on what it can do, like weights and measures, movie times, reminders, quick messages etc..

So I am more excited:D

The reviews might have been expecting something God like that will magically answer all their calls and remove all the annoying notifications. That's really a user problem, for me it will allow me more freedom:cool:

I hope to never here my stupid phone ring again.

I've decided to go for the rubber banded SS now. In Australia the link bracelet is $679!

$679!!!!!!

I think i'll wait a few weeks till they pop up on ebay or even better aftermarket ones are available.
