Huge Apple fan but I cannot understand the point of this.

It is an expensive way to see who's texted you. . .and to decide whether or not to get out your phone to reply anyway.

Just get out your phone. . .and reply or not.

I've seen reviews 'saved me fumbling around for my phone'. . . .who in the name of the sweet lord FUMBLES around for their phone. It's in my pocket. Always. Always in my left pocket. No fumbling at all. Just reach in. . .pull it out. Reply to texts etc.

Waste of time and money.

I'm in the minority but I'm in and out of airports, running to catch trains, driving, etc. Pulling out the phone is something I'm used to now, but being able to get my calendar alerts, track my bpm, pay for things, check in at airports by just raising my wrist is a great compliment. It means less time yanking out the phone, unlocking, scrolling around. A couple seconds of my time, yeah. But, the iPad was once considered just a bigger iPod Touch.

Can't afford it LOL.

No. Nothing to do with cost.

Merely the fact the product as it stands is completely pointless. Literally pointless. It does nothing that you can't do in equal. . And actually LESS TIME. . On your phone.

Most of the time you'll get your phone out anyway after looking at your watch as it's too fiddly to do on the watch.

I'm sorry to point this out to you

Re-read what I wrote. I didn't say you or anyone else couldn't afford it. You missed the key phrase that followed it… "relative to their value of the watch".
In other words, it doesn't hold enough value TO YOU to spend what it costs. If it cost $50, I'd wager that you and almost all others who aren't getting it, would now get it.

Poor analogy. The iPad does things far better than the smaller screen devices do especially with respect to consuming media. iPads can replace laptops for many.

The watch does not provide an order of magnitude convenience over pulling out a small phone. In fact you can argue it can become a nuisance in certain scenarios of being over notified.

If you're being over-notified then you don't have your notifications sufficiently curated. I am extremely picky about which apps I allow to send me notifications. 90% of the notifications I get are for email, texts, and phone calls, since they are what is important to me.

Uh, it wasn't an analogy. That is literally what people were saying during the first year of the iPad's launch.
