Tim would be a GREAT CEO at Dell.

There are others who could be okay and better CEOs for Apple, but it would be unlikely to find somebody who would be GREAT at controlling one of the largest corporations in the world with brilliant, but extremely opinionated executives.

Only a guy like Jobs had the clout and respect as a former founder to step into Apple during its time of near bankruptcy to enact every one of his ideas without resistance.

I’d still rather Apple play the CEO lottery and hope to find a visionary with the ability to have others develop confidence in his/her vision.

Just being theoretical, If there was anyone to replace Cook, I think it would be Jeff Williams personally, he seems to have the mindset and leadership capabilities through Apples DNA.

I really don't know how the iPhone could "improve greatly" within the realm of what is technically possible today (on a sufficiently large scale).

TC is guilty of presiding over an exceptionally staid Macintosh line, of presiding over terrible neglect of the possibilities of the iPad, but iPhone (and iOS) is legitimately at least a year ahead of the competition. The only problem is the price.

High Prices and lack of features is the reason the iPhone is failing
I mean why $750 for a phone in 2018/2019 that has a 720p display ? And not too much different from the 2016’s iPhone 7 4.7inch
And then the XS Max costing $1,500+ with taxes for the highest storage model.

Just what new features do you want that are available with today's technology?

These guys do have spare time too though even if they are working for a company. I hate the way Apple are taking the mick out of us on pricing but I am fully behind the causes Cook stands for. The fact the Apple brand creates more awareness for them is a huge plus for me. I do wish Apple started working on something game changing again rather than charging us over a grand for an iPhone you can open with your face though.
Your can do that with an iPhone XR for $749 or about 25% less than the iPhone XS. But I get what you're saying. :)

People seem to forget that Apple almost folded under Jobs and the company he then started didn't make it either.

I don’t think people forgot, I think they just don’t care, because they don’t like/support Cooks vision of the future with his focus being on the iPad, new products like the AirPods, Apple Watch, HomePod etc. They think Cook lost focus on computers and the Mac, when in fact, Apple has shifted over the years with growth in services and the iPad has been marketed more heavily. Members on here believe that Apple should stay the same during ‘Jobs’ days, but Jobs wasn’t perfect either and made mistakes. The reality is, Apple has to change for the technological times also changing around them. It’s an ever changing field that Will never stop evolving.

The question should be; If Jony Ive resigns. Will the iPhone improve greatly?

Seems to me the question for all smartphone makers now is how far you can "improve" something that's apparently supposed to be a combo of phone, mini-tablet and fairly strong computing device.

Short of being able to roll it up into a little cylinder like a fancy cookie, they're pretty much there already so it's time to wean the consumers off expecting that the Next Great Breakthrough is still going to be some sort of improvement of a smartphone.

I like my XR although preferred the smaller form factor of my SE. I would never have gone for the price tag on the other X offerings -- and if Apple showed me an XSE or whatever next time around I'd be on it just for the size.

Only reason I upgraded from SE to XR to begin with was figuring they're not likely to bring another small sized phone. The SE was just going to get longer in the tooth on its way to EOL because unable to run some future iOS, and least I do really like the XR. It buys me a few years before I revert to a dumb cellphone if Apple doesn't put a small smartphone in the lineup again.

EDIT: oh yeah, so my question would be why would anyone resign from Apple over a smartphone issue. We don't know what their next great breakthrough is but I think they're done trying to pitch that a phone is it... and we can't see their drawing board. Hope it's as much fun as it's been to unbox the first iPod, first iPhone, first MBA, first iPad.

Here we go again.. Samsung releases some more gimmicks and the world suddenly is on fire for Apple... Aaaaw Samsung put a whole in a screen and suddenly Apple doesn’t innovate anymore... Samsung put an ultrasonic fingerprint reader under a display and suddenly Apple doesn’t innovate despite FACE ID.. which is the future... man please ****

Of course not. The iPhone is still the best overall phone when it comes to performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, apps, and support. Anything outside of this is just for show.

Unfortunately, it's falling behind on software, services, and camera. Camera and Siri are particularly disappointing from what is a spectacular phone.

Now, anyone that knows me, knows I support Apple, but what exactly did Samsung release/announce for ‘gimmicks’ yesterday? They launched new earbuds, New phones and a folding phone. Sure, the folding phone may be for a very niche demographic for that price point, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a gimmick? Really, generally curious, why would their phones, new earbuds or even the folding phone be any of that of a gimmick? Those all seem like practical products that every day consumers are going to purchase. I really don’t think it’s fair to single out Samsung, not when they are putting out some really nice products as of late.

You can thank the likes of Samsung for our iPhones being so good. Without them pushing innovation whether some are gimmicks or not, our iPhones would be rubbish. Apple needs this constant pressure and so does the entire industry.

A fingerprint reader under the screen is also the future as phones are touchscreen devices anyway. We are already interacting with them with our fingers and just because Apple have developed FaceID does not mean we are heading for phones that no longer need our fingertips.

That’s your opinion, I don’t agree at all. iOS 12 has been perfect for me, I use iCloud for everything and have never had an issue, and my XS Max takes great photos. I don’t particularly care if there’s a camera that’s slightly better or has one feature over another, it’s all marginal. I only use Siri on my HomePod for smart home commands and music and it’s awesome. I’ve actually been very impressed with the quality in the last year from Apple.

For me the issues are more with iOS than the iPhone. Tbh I think the iPhone XS is the best looking phone on the market right now. Unfortunately, iOS is in a poor state compared to Android. I've been using iOS since iOS 5 and Android since 2.2 and I can tell you, Android has come aloooonnng way since then.

Best bet is to sort the engineering team out. Sort out the bugs and get some more innovate features in iOS. Currently a Pixel 3 xl with stock android blows any iPhone out of the water on performance...and i'm saying that as an apple fanboy!

You may be satisfied, but that doesn't change the fact that Apple is falling behind in some key areas.
Gmail>Mail.app
Dropbox>Google Drive>>>iCloud
Google Photos>Photos.app
Pixel Camera>>iPhone XS camera (with the night sight feature, it's not even particularly close)
Google Assistant>>>>Siri

iPhone hardware (camera aside) is still superior to most other devices but it's sad to see how far Apple has fallen.

Can you define how iOS is in a ‘Poor’ state? I mean, specifically what is poor about iOS compared to android? You’re not really saying anything to the reader here.

Stability for one. Numerous bugs. Lack of innovative features etc...

Don't even get me started on that Facetime group bug

I'm not going to reel off a massive list for you, google has plenty examples for iOS 12.

That's all opinion, which is totally fine, but I disagree. In the end, privacy matters to me and that trumps anything Google can offer. I don't find anything you mention significantly better than Apple's options.
