I hate trying to float around the store trying to catch someone I can check out with.

When I went to buy my XR two weeks ago, it probably took more time to find someone to help me than to pay for the damn thing.

It seems that they've been trained to actively ignore you even if you're standing directly in front of the staff with a confused look.

Out here, you check in with an employee at the front of the store that has an iPad, but even then it can take a long time.

You can do that here depending on what you're buying I guess, but if I know that I just want to run in, grab a specific accessory off the shelf and bounce, it seems like way too much work to stand in line to check in, tell them what I need, give them my info, and get directed to the corner to wait 15 minutes for someone.

I typically avoid checking in unless I've ordered online or am doing a return, seems pointless to me to check in for everything you can/do do there, but maybe not doing that is a problem too.

I justwish they had a couple dedicated cashiers, in addition to the current system.

They let you pay? When I got my X last year, I saw the nearby store had them, drove down there, found someone and was told he couldn't help me. I had to go online, buy it, and select the option to pick it up in store. Then I had to wait about an hour until the email showed up that my order was ready. Then they got me my stuff, handed it to me, I declined them setting it up for me and I got the heck out of there. Now that it's all said and done, it was still one of the worst shopping experiences I've ever had. I said "I have the money and you have one in the back, why can't you just get it?" He said, "I don't know that we have one in the back". I said "Are you saying apple.com might be wrong? They say you have one. Is that system incorrect and untrustworthy?" He said "No no, I'm not saying that". It was just a horrible experience. I don't blame him. It's a dumb system. Horrid warehouse management from a customer service point of view.

When I got my iPad a few months back, I knew to order ahead of time at work. After a 20-minute drive, I stood around the mall for another hour. I called at that point and was told sometimes it takes longer and I'd just have to be patient. There was nothing she could do. It was all super nice and I was given bad news from an expert customer service person. No complaints with her either. But it makes no sense when I can pay for a $2,000 TV at Best Buy in less than 30 seconds. And the few times I've done something like that over the years, they're typically bringing it up from the warehouse while I'm paying.

If anyone has to go - its Ive and maybe, Ahrendts.

Wait, Angela Ahrendts? Why would Apple need to terminate her? And what does she have to do with the iPhone improving? (More specific to this thread topic) Fairly certain she has been a big part success with the Apple retail revamping and structure within the store level. Not everyone has the same experience with an Apple store, but the stores in my area, have been exceptionally remodeled under her regime. I mean, your post doesn’t explain anything, I understand those who don’t like Jony Ive because of his questional design cues over the years with the iPhone and other products, but Your comment on dismissing her isn’t warranted, nor necessary.

Agreed. The one near my house is amazing and why I continue to buy Apple.

But come on Relentless Power, didn’t you know that the average Macrumors user could run Apple 400x better than those who run Apple now? :)

1) Face ID, 2) Larger OLED Display, 3) Wireless Charging, 4) Longer Battery Life, 5) No Headphone Jack

Those were the killer features that got me out of my iPhone 6 and into an iPhone X. Doesn't matter to the 50,000,000 people who upgraded to the X in the last year that these features were available in other smartphones as we're iPhone people.

The headphone jack was a pleasant surprise. Took Apple the courage to eliminate a seemingly necessary feature to prove the point that it wasn't actually necessary. Bluetooth headphones are my second-favorite piece of hardware bought last year, right after the iPhone X and right before the HomePod.

I have my first 6 inch OLED screen back in 2014 with Nexus 6. Guess wha it also has, wirelsss charging.

Back then, you Apple fan was laughing at Android with OLED screen and uselsss wireless charging. Now this suppose to be the killer features?

Apple does have a courage for killing out headphone jack and then not include a dadptor, so they can charge you $10 for an adapter. Apple does have a courage to include a fast charging capability but charging you 50-60 dollars for a fast charger and cable.

This is the company that turns to greedy piece of ****.. glad that I don’t use there shot anymore.

Who was laughing at those features? For most these were features which a lot wanted and waited for.

Running iOS and having these features is what apple wantged. Obviously android has a lot of great features first as they see what sticks first but people know if IOS is the operating system for them they will wait for these features.

I don’t know about you. There are lots of people here in MacRumors was laughing about LED ghosting and how useless wireless charging. They think Apple will magically implement wireless charging without the charging pad. You can really go to old thread and see.

Here is just an example of Apple Store in Conestoga Mall, Waterloo, ON.

Only one Apple Store Employee at the door with an iPad and you can clearly see several people are in the product area . There was no single Apple Store Employees in the first half of the store. Everything single one of them are in the second half of the store.

Sometimes, you will see some employees with iPads just standing there do nothing. And there is absolutely no employee or only two employees actually in the product area.

Oled is not a killer feature, especially since now it’s a 30 year old technology. For all I care the max could have an lcd screen and be $150 less. I wanted 3dt and the camera updates. Apples lcd screens are better than most oled anyway(yes that’s an opinion)

And hey, if you don’t like apple we should all be happy there is competition.

iPhone users only care about iPhone's. So whatever Android was doing back in 2014 is of no consequence to us. I didn't even know that those features were available in Android because I never ever have cross-shopped an Android handset.

So, yes, OLED display, wireless charging, Face ID, the Notch, and other features were brand new to iPhone owners a year ago and they still feel as fresh and new to us today.

Apple isn't greedy. They are simply targeting a more wealthy clientele and are making high-end and high-priced products just as a luxury brand should. If we wanted to save a buck, we'd care about Android. But we aren't on a budget so it's inconsequential.

High Prices and lack of features is the reason the iPhone is failing
I mean why $750 for a phone in 2018/2019 that has a 720p display ? And not too much different from the 2016’s iPhone 7 4.7inch
And then the XS Max costing $1,500+ with taxes for the highest storage model.

People are hanging onto their phones longer than ever before. While I will grant you that the cost of ownership is high, too high I think, but both the resale value and/ or the usable life of an iPhone dwarfs anything Android has that I am aware of. I would be interested in how Android flagship phones have fared in comparison. Apple still sold tons of units, just not as many as analysts thought they would. They are hardly in the red.

That’s just show how far iPhone was behind. I feel sorry for people bashing something and got excited for samethings few years later. Just too funny to see

Yes. I am perfectly happy with my Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro, I also use Xiaomi and Smartisan phones from time to time . Only sometime in a odd moon, I will take out my iPhone 7, and it won’t last me for a week.

I enjoying OLED with my P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro. I enjoy dark mode for lots of apps and the camera offered by two phones.

Wow what a sight. That is amazing. The Apple Stores here in California (near Los Angeles) usually have a 50+ line before they open and are wall to wall with people.

I definitely agree there are bad Apple Stores. The one near our house is and always has been amazing, absolutely amazing. You walk in, someone greets you, you're handled. The store closer to Los Angeles (about an hour away from our house) --- 30% of the employees were talking among themselves and even playing with the equipment, even taking pictures/videos of themselves. I spent OVER 1.5 hours waiting to be seen for my appointment. I was livid, so were many people waiting with me. The "genius" that saw us was impatient, very rude, and dismissive even when his own iPad said our phone was defective, he refused to do anything about it. They were the ones that destroyed my wife's iPhone putting a battery in it.

The Apple Store near our house? We made an appointment and walked out with an apology, a thanks for being AppleCare+ purchasers, and a replacement phone in LESS than 6 minutes after the appointment started. This Apple Store I've gone to for the last 4+ years. Love it.

I tell you this. I was with my dad to replace his iPhone 6S battery last year. He was waited for half an hour for someone to speak with him. They said it takes about 1-1.5 hours, so we went home while they repairs. We showed up about 2 hours later, spoken with someone and then they send us at waiting area. Then we waited for other 30 minutes for my father’s phone.

If it’s an accessory I’m buying off the wall, I just scan it through the Apple Store App and pay for it through Apple Pay without interacting with an employee.

Firing Cook won't suddenly generate an innovator. Jony Ive appears to have retired.

I think the ideal situation for Apple would be to replace Cook with Angela Ahrendts down the road but the lack of innovators in management at the company is a concern.

Maybe Forestall will come back. (That was a joke)

I haven't been to the Apple stores so much in the last few years, mostly to buy stuff. But this year I went in a few times to check out the new devices and get batteries replaced. Apple replaced the batteries in my 6s and 7 gratis, the experience from entering to leaving took about an hour. The service is top notch in both apple stores in my area.

But as every YMMV.

I really have to chuckle at the ability to go into the store and pay for the merchandise with the Apple Store App and walk out.

OLED is a superior feature. It may not be killer, but it's definitely superior to LCD.

That’s not why it’s failing. China is why it’s failing. The phones are fine.
Barely find people use Samsung flagship there, I was there for a whole month for business.
I went to many cities.
The Chinese brands are actually great
They customize their systems like Apple

Tim would be a GREAT CEO at Dell.

There are others who could be okay and better CEOs for Apple, but it would be unlikely to find somebody who would be GREAT at controlling one of the largest corporations in the world with brilliant, but extremely opinionated executives.

Only a guy like Jobs had the clout and respect as a former founder to step into Apple during its time of near bankruptcy to enact every one of his ideas without resistance.

I’d still rather Apple play the CEO lottery and hope to find a visionary with the ability to have others develop confidence in his/her vision.
