If u think rooting an android phone and jailbraking an iPhone are close u are delusional.

Rooting an android phone usually requires many more steps than an iPhone. With an iPhone u are given an alternative app store with apps descriptions and pics RIGHT ON UR PHONE!!!
no downloading alternative roms flashing kernels and all that BS

I used to own an Evo and it took me 40+steps on xda and about an hour and a half to download the necessary software to do a full nandroid unlock/root.

With the iPhone it's 3-5 steps max and it's easy.

Stop kidding ur self.

And no the iPhone is by no means useless without jailbreak.
Retina display is the best mobile screen to date.
3.5 inches and we don't need to zoom in to read web pages
Yet Ur 4.3 inch screen requires zoom
IN MY OPINION iPhone has:
More/better quality apps
Better music player
Sleeker/more organized U/I
And with iOS 5 awesome notifications.

Once again In my opinion iPhone is better for those reasons.

The problem is I can admit to the iPhones shortcomings but u can't.

And no Me not admitting the iPhone is useless without jailbreak does not make me a fanboy.

For you EVO I am going to flat out say you are lieing and caught in a lie. THe EVO has never even at the very begining before the one clicks came out hit 40 steps. Hit maybe 7 accorriding to XDA.

Rooting now on Android phone first thing is if you phone can do side loading (non AT&T phone) make sure side loading is turned on and then with your phone go download the Gingerbreak.apk and install it. Now click on gingerbreak app set your phone down and wait between 10-30 mins for it to finish after that you are rooted.

4 steps if you count download, installing, running then waiting as 4 separated steps. I know for a fact there is nothing that low for jail break.

If you have an AT&T phone that has not been updated to do side loading it a little longer but still easy. On windows download gingerbreak.exe. Plug your phone into the USB port. Make sure USB Debugging is turn on and your phone is in Mass storage mode. Run gingerbreak.exe. Now go to your phone and run gingerbreak app and wait for it to finish. You are rooted.

If on OSX or linux download gingerbreak.apk. Now Download Sideload Woder Machine(SMW) for your respective OS. Plug your phone into your computer with USB Debuging and mass storage turn on. Run the SWM on your computer and then choose the gingerbreak.apk to install on the phone. Run gingerbreak app and wait.

Now if you had an AT&T phone after you are rooted get glandenabled and while your phone is plug in run the script giving it root access and it will turn on sideloading.

So the work around the lack of side loading is a little harder but it adds a few steps that are not hard to deal with and if you have any basic computer skills it should be a breeze.

I do not know of a jailbreak that is that easy.

As for zooming in on my Android 4in screen compared to iPhone4 on both I can read just fine zoomed out. So do not do that standard Retenia display crap on not being able to read zoomed out.

You have already been caught multiple times not knowing what you are talking about and as I pointed out already you had to jailbreak to get the basic things and YOU STILL MADE this thread. You my friend are an example of a hypocryte. Clearly the iPhone is not what you wanted stock and bash people who want more but you wanted more and jailbroke.

I'm literally lol because of u right now.
Not only have u not contributed anything into this Thread but I remember reading posts from you because of ur signature. You literally have nothing positive to contribute to these forums. Instead of being a know it all smart ass read my post again....then read the rest of the replies and u will understand why mine said that

I did read your posts again, and you should too. Not sure why you are laughing because your posts have been hypocritical and rather useless. You've posted the obvious and created a flame war as well. There's nothing really to contribute to this thread anymore.

I remember you too, because of your ignorance.
There's people here who actually know what they are talking about, so you might want to be quiet. I'm not referring to myself, but it's obvious who actually knows what they are talking about on this thread.

Rooting doesn't take that long. Often, as Rodimus Prime said, there is a one-click solution. Also, "downloading alternative roms flashing kernels and all that BS" is not actually necessary, and also, is not that hard, but of course this can differ from phone to phone. Many of the thing's you've listed are opinions, not facts. It's great that you like your phone but this thread was pretty obviously going to attract argument form the start. "USER EXPERIENCE is why Apple will always be the king."? come on, have some sense and see that not everyone has the same needs/wants as you

And it DOES differ from phone to phone. When I was using Android on the Evo, it was like being on a WM6 and below phone all over again. You had to go on a search frenzy to find all the pieces of the puzzle just to fix what you didn't like about any specific phone. And a differ device with the same problem is like starting all over again, from my experience help friends with their Android phones.

With the iPhone, Jailbroken or not .... Everything just fits. Not saying it doesn't have it's problems(which most are extremely easy to fix). But compared to the problems you can encounter on Android, iOS is the most stable & user friendly mobile OS ever. I think the sacrifice of waiting for some features is worth it. Or Jailbreaking is the easy answer.

BTW .... Most people I know with an iPhone are non techy and jailbroken. I rarely meet anyone with a non-jailbroken iPhone. Cydia is damn near a household name for most iPhone owners.

"apple is the king"? What are they 12% of pc OSs and 3rd or 4th in sales and lets be real ios is losing ground as the number one internet capable mobile os. Not that they are losing sales in the internet mobile devices but rather the market is growing faster then apple.

I am so sick of seeing endless posts about people complaining about iPhone/iOS shortcomings!

What you people need to remember is the iPhone 4 is ONE DEVICE!!!
It is not fair to name off features from 20 Different android devices and compare them to ONE Apple phone.

I don't understand why people still think specs are what makes a phone...

USER EXPERIENCE is why Apple will always be the king.

If you seriously want to complain about the iPhone... remember that your perfect Android or windows 7 Phone is going to be missing something too.

Now I know there are legitimate complaints about the iPhone it's not perfect.
But this rant was towards people who are not satisfied with anything they get.

Trolls can get to the best of us mz100... Best just to ignore them (I know, pretty hard to do).

Really for me it came down to getting a moderator warning myself for giving an Android troll on the forum a hard time to realize that there wasn't any point to defending your point of view. The moderators of this forum don't care if Android trolls come in here and talk **** all the time so why should we care either?

Hey, is that you?

Yeah, but just because it's different doesn't make it hard. I've found a combination of Google, XDA, and YouTube will solve any problem, and to be honest, most rooting solutions come with a guide/set of instruction.

I've only jailbroken once so I can't comment on that, but rooting on Android doesn't result in the problems you say it does, so long as you don't mess with things you shouldn't touch. As long as you do a bit of reading before doing things, nothing will really go wrong.

BTW .... Most people I know with an iPhone are non techy and jailbroken. I rarely meet anyone with a non-jailbroken iPhone. Cydia is damn near a household name for most iPhone owners.

Much like root is well known word to Android owners. I don't quite get what you're trying to say with this

U can call me a fanboy all you want...
The bottom line is, I have an iPhone 4. I can jailbreak it, so I did and enjoy the features I have.

However.
I can explain why I will take a non jailbroken iPhone 4 over an android device

No Phone can come close to the screen on the iPhone 4.

Matter of opinion and that it yours.

Talk all you want about screen size, but for a mobile phone 3.5 inches is fine.

The fact that I can read every thread title on the macrumors forums on my 3.5 inch screen without zooming in over

an android phone with a 4.3 in screen with 800*480 that requires me to zoom in...

The screen alone is enough for most people..

Want more? OK

That wasnt much to warrant your statement imo.

The music player is the smoothest on a mobile phone. all my music is on iTunes and syncs perfectly with my phone.

Umm, my music plays great on my Vibrant. Sounds great, and there are multiple players you can choose from that do many things but agree, i also like the Apple player. Wouldnt say it is hands down better though.

The apps on the iPhone are less clunky and look better than android.
Facebook chat was on the iPhone months before android.

Some dont look as good , i agree but some do. Who cares if you got Facebook chat months before Android did? Fact is, Android has had chat on FB for months and it wasnt somehting that Android users were complaining about as compared to iPhone users wanting notifications.

Browser:

Flash would be cool to have, But I don't really need it...
90% of the sites I use on my phone work perfectly with the iPhone.

Flash is cool i guess but i could live without it. Slows pages down sometimes.

Not to mention safari is the smoothest mobile browser. the iPhone 2G came out in 2007 running iPhone OS 1.0 and still had smoother scrolling than any android browser today.

Eh...there are several browers to choose from on Android. Firefox, Opera, Skyfire w/ flash..all good browsers. And thats just what i have along w/ the stock browser. There are more.

As for scrollng, i dont agree. Ive used an iP4 and used the newest ipod and they dont scroll as smooth as my Vibrant. My scren scrolls very smooth and it touch sensitive. I barely jesture a movement down w/ my finger and my drop screen comes all the way down. Its barely more than a tap downward to make that happen. I can scroll through my songs pretty easy with no effort it scrolls so smooth. Flick of a finger and it moves pretty fast. iP4 and iPod dont do those things like mine does.
Of course, this is just my opinion but im telling you, my screen scrolls very smooth.

And to root my phone, i got an App from the Market called Z4Root. Once installed i clicked "Root" and that was it. There is also a button that says "unroot". Dont think it is on the market any longer though but there are other easy ways as well.

These are just some reasons why I prefer an iPhone over an Android device?

Im betting if you couldnt jailbreak, you would switch dispite what you say here. However, im glad you can. It made the iPhone experience much better for me as well when i used one.

Great, installing custom rom is not necessary..ahaha. :D.

Explain to me why am I wasting another 4 hrs of my time tonight to go back to stock and install a new rom and kernel combo for decent battery life?

Maybe the ihated 4 spoiled me but I was a heavy user and charging it was never a scheduled rite.

oh and just typing this took me 15 mins thanks to crappy dolphin. frikken half-baked chojces suck.

Also, you gotta look at the key differences! Apple makes both hardware and software. Google makes just the os. Google's approach works better at getting its os out there faster. Why? Carriers are not great at all places. Some people are loyal to carrier's first and then the phone. Apple made the mistake by having exclusives. People transitioning between feature phones to smartphones wont know why the iPhone is the best smartphone. However, ios outnumbers android in terms of mobile devices (ipod touch, ipad). No carriers to worry about on these devices.

iOS 5 will help other platforms to switch over to ios and keep ios users happy.

Sorry to break the news to you but people prefer choices and that comes down to iOS as well.

People like choices but having 50 or 100 choices doesn't do them any good. There is a such thing as having too many choices. After a certain point, the presence of so many different items confuses consumers.

People will choose android over iOS even if apple had 100 devices running iOS.

Are you saying that if iOS were licensed out to OEMs just like Android is given to OEMs, people would still choose Android? While some may prefer Android for its features, I don't get why you so easily write off iOS even when it is licensed out just like Android.

Ok, here's my arguements why I pick the iphone over the standard generic Android phones are better why aren't you switching to it unless you are a fangirl arguments:

Bigger screen size: I don't want a bigger screen size. I'm actually hoping Apple does not increase the screen size in the phone. Unless they find some magical way of doing it without increasing the phone size and still making the phone usable (to be able to grip the phone decently you still need a little bit of bezel).

Widgets: Yes, that's pretty cool. No, it's really not that big of a deal to me. If I get them, awesome. If not, I like my phone, it works great for me, and widgets aren't going to get me to change just for them. I'll stick with what I know works for me and miss out on them.

Notifications: Yeah, I can see people's arguments. Never really bothered me too much (though even I noticed the want of being able to have a list of notifications rather than if you missed them when they popped up oh well). And anyways, now we get better notifications. Yay for us iphone users :).

Customization: I'm happy with the customization options on the iphone. And honestly, I like the grid. I dont' like different sized icons on the Android (particularly that large clock that looks like creepy eyes to me), they look ugly. Basically, if you don't like how iOS is laid out, yeah, this is great. If you like it, it's not really all that important.

Faster Processor: Ok, you got me there. But the only reason I want a faster processor is for gaming and iOS is still the one getting the most games. So, well, for what I'd want the faster processor for, iOS is better for anyways despite the iphone not having the faster processor than some Android phones.

Bigger megapixel camera: From what I've seen the iphone still takes excellent photos despite not having the "numbers". But they also paid attention to what lens it has. It works great as a camera now (I'll admit on the 3G I had before that was a big flaw, it had a horrible camera).

Free google voice directions: Well, seeing as I bought Navigon already, I really don't have the need for a free voice direction software *shrug*.

"antennagate": Uh, whatever. In my experience that was way overblown (in otherwords it's never been a problem for me).

Open system: Ok, people who use this usually are going by the principle. Honestly, sorry, I just don't care that much. I am happy with my phone. Anyways, for those who do it on principle... no one is forcing you into the closed architecture anyways so why are you arguing it's some sort of dictatorship?

And anyways, every time I play with an Android phone (either at a store or some one has one and I get to peruse it), nothing really sticks out as something I really envy all that much (in general, I prefer my phone though I'll admit could just be I'm more familiar with mine).

So overall, yeah, Android may have some better stuff. Some stuff I actually prefer how iOS does it and to me it's not better. And I'm pretty tied into the iphone ecosystem at this point so Apple would have to do something to make me dislike the phone for me to change (really I don't think there is much I really want that Android could have that would entice me to go to them without apple messing up the phone as overall I'm pretty happy with my iphone 4 and I really don't have any major complaints).

(Disclaimer: These are *my* reasons for not wanting to go to Android, never said they should be yours).

Carrier availabilty has nothing to do with androids success. iPhones are sold off contract and are available on all carriers in the uk but android is still the most popular phone os. Already we are seeing apples control over the tablet market share slip. Apple makesfreat products.

The problem in what you linked to is that includes things like ipods and ipads, neither of which are phones. In the smartphone market apple does not have the largest market share (which is also stated in your link).

your correct but the beauty here is they all run pretty much the same os making it very easy for devs to make 1 app that runs on ipods iphones and ipads <--- is the single biggest advantage iOS has

android has a lot of potential but is too fragmented for its own good.

i agree with the OP i never understand why people go to an iphone and mac forum to ask if they should switch to android or trash ios or mac is it perfect no but we like it or we wouldnt be here and if you dont like it then why are you here lol

and this whole ios vs android this is identically early apple and microsoft all over again

apple uses their strategy with computers and all devices they make the software and hardware to merge them perfectly for a superb experience. which they are doing with ios.

Android follows microsoft's attack plan by over saturating the market with as many devices as possible they license the os to anyone who wants it: Moto, HTC, Samsung, LG, Kyocera, etc. So the end user gets many choices at different price points on any carrier in different configurations which is nice if you want choices.

So just like windows and OSX either have your choices but will take some tweaking or put your trust in apple and they provide you with an excellent quality product that works when you need it to because some of us while we love to play with our devices, we want them to just work.

That's why I didn't say smartphone market. I said mobile. iPads and iPods are mobile. They run on the mobile iOS offered by Apple. Just like Honeycomb, ran by Google, runs on some tablets. So of all devices that run on mobile OSs, Apple has the largest share of them.

All of the Android forums posts complaining about slow or no
Updates for their phones. This is part of the fragmentation problem
Just because Google releases updated software doesn't mean that
Software will reach your phone. Yes jailbreak works for some
But not mainstream

I expect Samsung to offer free cases for this. This better become a big deal. Couple this with some reports of it randomly deleting photos. So there, Android fans. Your phones aren't perfect. No amount of overclocking and customizing can fix these problems. You're no better than iPhone fanboys.

Not sure what you're trying to accomplish there. You're pointing out that you found a phone that runs android that has a problem?....ok.... First I don't think anyone will argue saying every phone running android is perfect. There are plenty of good ones and there are even more that aren't very good. A person can like android and not like every phone out there that has android. So the comment " so there, android fans. Your phones aren't perfect" don't really make much sense. I like android but I couldn't careless about the nexus s 4g, it's a phone that should have been released last year, and I'd take the original nexus s over it any day. So not sure what that link is supposed to be proving or what point your were trying to make..

Exactly. But that's what every Android user who comes here tries to do. They try to tell Apple users how imperfect their devices are, point out a couple flaws, and begin a flame war. "iOS is JUST now getting this?" "At least my phone can make calls" "You mean you have to go to Settings, THEN Network, THEN..".

Who the hell cares? If it works for the user, then it works for the user. If you don't like it, change phones.

EDIT: Okay, so not EVERY Android user. But generally most Android users who start a thread here.
