I hate AT&T.
Why?
Because you received a $300 subsidy on your iPhone 3G and magically expect ATT to give you another one and take ANOTHER loss on the initial equipment purchase even though you've only been in contract a year?
Consider it a home loan. You don't take out a mortgage (receiving the initial subsidy for the purchase of an expensive phone) and then get to get an entirely new mortgage without paying off the original one.
I read it.
You are WRONG.
This is why I am personally "whining."
I have a 3G that I payed FULL PRICE for because I wasn't elligable last year on launch day. Last I checked, it is more than 6 months from the last launch.
I am still getting quoted the HIGHER prices while others aren't. ($599/$699)
So can't I "whine?"
Just a little?![]()
My only question is:
If I'm paying $699, why do I still need a new 2 year contract? Doesn't it make much more sense to just continue my current contract?
Here's my question...
My wife and I are on a family plan. I have a 3G purchased on launch day '08. She has a 2G purchased on launch day '07. For some reason, my upgrade date is 3/12/2010. She is eligible to upgrade now. She doesn't want the new iPhone, but of course I do. Can I buy a 3GS, pretend it's for her so we get the lower price, then just later swap the SIM cards? Is there any down side to doing this?
Thanks!
UPDATE - they are offering it to me for only $500. Well, I'd rather have $299 but this is a lot easier to swallow than $700...
Purchasing a phone compared to an investment such as a house where homes actually appreciate in value whereas a phone depreciates.. hmm where does that logic fail?
.
LOL, "only" $500 for a phone. A phone. This is hilarious.

According to Apple's web site as of 15 minutes ago, yes, the $699 price also requires rolling your account over into a new 2-year contract.
According to Gizmodo, who claims to have received their information direct from AT&T, no, the $699 price is commitment-free, which would imply that you could just use the phone on your existing plan without affecting your contract expiry date or any future upgrade eligibility.
I bought my iPhone 3g on launch date. I am eligable for the iPhone 3gs 16gb for $400. It's not so bad. I could sell my current 3g for $400 as well. Why are people complaining? Plus I don't even use the $30 data plan on my 3g, this means I have even saved more money.
