Here's what they are offering me. Of course I am still on an original iPhone.
As an existing customer, you qualify for the following iPhone pricing: You'll be able to choose the iPhone you want a little later in the process.
• $99.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
• $199.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
• $299.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)

i have the 450 plan...got my 3g about a month and a half ago..never had an att contract before that...walked out of the store with a 3g and new contract for $320 ($299)....

i am eligible for th e32gb @ $499..

ive always paid on time (one time so far) and i havent replaced my phone..just got the damn thing..

im not sure how they figure me to be eligible..BUT IM HAPPY

they're not worried about their existing customers, they got us hooked on the 3G for 2 years. They're into getting new customers and new iPhone users

I so hate them.

This fricken sucks.

Frickin AT&T, this is highway robbery!!!

F**K that!! I won't be buying this then. I would like too, but not at a $600 price tag.

F*ck that! I'm taking my iPhone 3G off of eBay!

ummm, what is this ********!?!? Apple is a bunch of whores

seven Hundred Dollars Are You ****ing Kidding Me???????????????

As expected. You recieved a SUBSIDIZED phone last year and now you want them to subsidize another phone halfway through your contract? This is standard for AT&T and other US carriers.

uh, according to this site the prices will be:

"The iPhone 3Gs is $199 for 16GB and $299 for a new 32GB version. It's coming on June 19th, including to the UK.

The old iPhone 3G will be available at $99."

That is for eligible customers.

I was gonna wait for this phone but my Original iPhone broke in February and I bought the 3G thinking I could buy this one for 200.

No, I payed full price for two iPhone 3Gs on launch day.

And I refuse to do it again.

I don't get this... I have always upgraded my phones after 1 year (by extending my 4 line family plan contract) -- which is when AT&T lets me get my "contract extension" upgrade. This time its just giving me a reduced price, what gives... I mean I can go get a contract extension price on a Blackberry right now if I wanted.

I will be within 30 days of my upgrade date on June 19th and have to pay $499.99 plus the 18$ fee. I cant wait till 2010 when I can dump AT&T.

I bought husband's and my iPhone on both launch dates. Yes I exchanged them but within 2 weeks.

Husband: Eligible 3/2010
Me: 12/2009

As if that makes sense. So a 32gb is going to cost $700 a pop? WTF

No one, and I do mean NO ONE, paid full price on for the iPhone 3G on launch day. You either got the upgrade eligible pricing of $199/$299 or the early upgrade pricing of $399/$499. In either case, you paid a lower price than the full, unsubsidized price of $599/$699, the later not even being an option until a few months ago.

I just checked my family plan account which has 3 iPhone 3G's all purchased on launch -- one returned one week later for a new replacement. For some reason one of my accounts is eligable for an upgrade on 7/12/09 and the other two are 3/16/2010... why would two lines be different when all the phones were bought and activated the same exact day? Argh!!

I just sent an angry email to AT&T through my account about all of this... telling that I do not think it is fair.

I encourage you all to do the same.

I understand i signed a contract and all, but these prices are effing crazy! Guess I'll stick w my 3g happily.

Ordered Mine

I dropped my 16GB 3G into a ...ahem...a bucket of water ...the only thing that didn't survive the dunking was the camera.

To replace the 3G 16GB iPhone was going to cost $200. So I get a new one with more features, memory and a better camera. Worth the wait to me.

I have two identical iphones bought in July of 2008. One says eligible for the early upgrade and one says full price only. Something is way messed up.

Well at least the lines at Apple won't be so bad if this is the case.

For everyone of you that complained and then purchased, you only proved why Apple did this. Cupertino knows that people will complain and then buy...so thank you for proving Apple's point.

THANK YOU!!! Finally someone with common sense!! When I 1st got my LG Voyager, if I wasn't eligible for an upgrade it was (at the time) almost $500.00. Do you people really expect to get a new iPhone every time it comes out for the subsidized price? If you do think that, you're an idiot. Try doing the same thing with any other cell phone carriers and you will get the same thing.
If you want an HTC Touch Pro with Verizon it's $560.00 if you're not eligible for an upgrade, at&t is no different than any other cell carrier.

This is a well known fact for "high value" ATT customers.

Your first line is actually "full upgrade eligible" every 12 months in a 24 month contract. You must average at least $99 on your primary line for an X amount of months.

You second/third/fourth/fifth lines vary. Some may get a 18 month upgrade or a 21 months upgrade.

yeah i dont visit that often, some of us have lives, (working, etc.) so i cant just sit on rumor sites all day. A friend of mine informed me of rumors after the fact so thanks for the criticism, besides im pretty sure the store managers(the one who sold me the phone), would know what kind of merchandise they would be recieving since such measures require preparation.

The old "i have a life" quip is rather lame. Do you really need to be a person without a life to simply know that WWDC was happening this month and/or to realize that the 3G has been out for well amost a year now?

Thanks for that info :D

That used to be the "no-contract" pricing.
Now you have to pay $700 AND you're locked in for 2 years?
That's a joke!
There should be an "early upgrade" $500 price.

ummm...there kind of is. pay the early termination fee, then buy the phone as a new customer. $200 (early termination) $199 or $299 = $399 or $499.
