I think Ice Cream Sandwich era is becoming the starting point on where Android is heading when it comes to being more pretty and cohesive. Android is still getting there... I can't wait when Jellybean comes out.

But considering Metro UI will be common in Windows 8 which likely becomes the best-selling new desktop OS this year, I can see why some people wouldn't mind switching to WP just to get used to the OS and look/feel of the Metro UI.

If you use your phone really for some media consumption and social networking, Windows Phone really is a solid choice especially that latter part. Just be wary of the prices on apps and their lack of sometimes compared to the Android Market and App Store.

You can see how Windows Phone is so much FASTER when it comes to posting stuff for social networks compared to other platforms.

I'm kinda shocked to see so many votes for Android and the handful of votes for BB. I would've expected different results.

You can't get more anti-iPhone than those two. BB has an awful UI (although I've not seen how the new OS looks like) and its future is questionable. Android, on the other hand, will always suffer from the fragmentation issues and manufacturers who are out of control with their release cycles.

In terms of user experience, WP7 is the closest thing to iPhone you can get. While the UI is radically different, it's just as simple and intuitive to use, has excellent support from Microsoft in terms of updates, bugs fixes etc., and works beautifully. No choppiness in the animations or when switching from app to app, no broken ecosystem, etc.

It also just works™ :p.

Really, what phones have you been using. I have playing around with one the latest HTC Android phones and there is zero "chopiness"

Not everyone is going to like it like you do.

I'm thoroughly disgusted with Android.
Explain your disgust with Android.

I chose Windows Phone as my poll choice, will end up buying the next iPhone unless its the same screen size, but I still think Android is finally doing something right with their UI.

Is it that you were prefer a real open-source, open-standards handset like Tizen will be? That's a big reason why I won't go with Android. If I'm going to go open-source, it better be all the way rather than be Google's pet project.

Huh? Read the bit you bolded again. He said WP7 had no chopiness. He made no mention of Androids performance. You're looking for a fight where there isn't one.

Right now I'm using Android after years of using the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 4. It is a functional operating system, although if iOS wasn't as limited in some areas, I would switch back in a heartbeat. I just am not a huge fan of jail breaking, But I might do it again (just for tethering) when my Android contract is up with Sprint and I can get a new phone for a reasonable price.

Android looks like it is slightly pulling away from the competition now.

I think it is expected since like iOS, Android is also app-driven. It is what keeps people entertained or more productive in the longer run once the initial honeymoon phase of anything "fresh" wears out eventually.

But it is understandable for many to like WP too just like me if you are looking for something as stable and smooth like iOS without it trying to look like iOS in the first place.

But like I said in another thread, you will get bored of all OSes eventually. Don't depend on a phone to keep entertaining you forever since it should be used more as a tool instead of a toy.

I dont think you can be bored of an OS that does everything a phone OS should do. That's why people are bored with iOS. It's not exactly feature rich.

There is a couple OSes I am fascinated with that I am curious to try out once the boredom kicks in after a couple years from EACH OS listed.

One is BlackBerry X. I thought QNX was pretty solid on PlayBook even though they copied alot of the UI elements of webOS. I don't know why some people give RIM such a hard time when the UI elements is still strong. I like how the video can still play in the background that something webOS "phones" couldn't do. But RIM is way too late in the game.

And the other is Samsung's Tizen. I thought MeeGo was interesting and hope Samsung can take it to another level. MeeGo is the only other new OS I have never tried since that only appeared on the Nokia N9.

I'd get the Nokia Lumia 900 in a heartbeat if it was (or ever be) available in the states. Yay!

I'm past having to have 200 apps on my phone. I use it for about 3 things: Phone calls (which the iPhone sucks at), music collection, camera and maps. I'm sure Windows/Nokia can nail those for me.

I've got an iPad for proper browsing, gaming and book reading. I don't even try that stuff on the iPhone anymore. Just too painful.

I hear ya. I'm the same way now. No games or stupid apps for things I do not need. I tried an htc Titan windows phone today and really loved it. At the age of 50 and needing reading glasses, it sure as nice to use a phone where I could actually read without wearing reading glasses.
The only drawback for me is that I am a stock trader and Etrade does not yet make an app for windows phones. My home has virtually every Apple product in it, and I use them all, but I just want a phone with a bigger screen..!
I could really care less about the "echo system" stuff.
I love my iPhone 4 but it is simply too small.

I think iOS becomes a feature-rich OS because it relies alot on apps. For a time, it really lacked alot of features, but that's how Macs are too. They never had the best hardware either.

But to be fair, iOS is just Apple's FIRST mobile OS and they got MOST of it right out of the gate. For them to start to differentiate the look more will alienate many of the current users who don't like change right away and want to play it safe since they are comfortable with how to use it already. Microsoft needed years and years to make an attractive mobile OS and had to completely reboot their OS. WinMo was just as clunky and ugly to use with a stylus as Android is without one. So it is easy to praise Microsoft now when people can easily forget how crappy Windows Mobile was before they revamped it and called it Windows Phone.

If I couldn't use an Iphone, I'd probably have an old cell phone from a few years ago that can just text because there's no way I'd settle for an android. I mean I've seen, handled, checked out a number of android phones and they just don't do anything for me. Although I will say they're better than a blackberry. Those are the least impressive. Just my opinion though.

Without a doubt, if I couldn't use an iPhone, I would buy a Samsung Galaxy 2 skyrocket. The skyrocket is the newst AT&T version. Stunning phone and OS. White looks really cool.

WHAT? The 4S is literally the best phone among modern smartphones. The audio and RF (on AT&T) are both superb.

That, and while 200 apps is extreme, having apps is what makes the iPhone and Android platforms so powerful, as they can connect to other devices and services that wouldn't be available on WP7.

Have you considered Windows Phone?

Agreed. Windows Phone.

Out of all the main phone OS' (with the exception of iOS) out there right now Windows Phone has me most curious.

Have you considered Windows Phone?

Yeah but I'm not on twitter or Facebook anymore. Those features would just be a waste. I think the one thing I would be interested in is the Xbox live feature. To be honest I haven't really seen or handled a windows phone yet so I shouldn't really comment on it. I'm sure they have their advantages though.

I'm not blown away by the 4s. I've used other phones with much better noise cancelation. I've also used much worse. Good not great IMO.

Lol yes. Android is lag city.

I'll be the first to admit that iOS has a certain smoothness to it android doesn't have. For example pulling down the notification screen, with ios it follows your finger smoothly and precisely. Newer android devices are close but not on par with ios.

My problem I notice with that is (I've mentioned this before somewhere) it does this by prioritizing it. Everything stops what it's doing just to make a window scroll nice?

If you prefer form over function there is no problem with that. However I wouldn't consider that a HUGE benefit. Your just taking one thing and replacing it with another.

If someone doesn't know what I'm talking about open a busy web page in safari and without lifting your finger start scrolling the page constantly. iOS will stop loading the web page until you stop scrolling. Even with the 4s. This is just an easy example but it runs deep into the os making proper multitasking difficult.

I think I'm going to get the Lumia 900 (Windows Phone 7) when it comes out. I have a few reservations, but it's clear to me that iOS is a dead end in terms of the functionality I think is appropriate for a smart phone.

Since I was disappointed by the release of the iPhone 4S rather than an iPhone 5 (in a manner of speaking), I decided to pick up a HTC Radar and I am loving Windows Phone. A huge improvement from the Nexus One I had before that (which was promptly replaced by an iPhone 3GS). By the time the next iPhone is released, I'm gonna have a hard time choosing between that and whatever new Windows Phones Nokia has released. Eh, I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I chose Windows Phone as well, but I'm a bit confused by your sentiments here. If you want more functionality, I don't think Windows Phone is the best way to go yet since its following the Apple model and its only been around for a year so in terms of functionality, its probably BEHIND iOS right now and will likely progress to be in lockstep with iOS.

Hopefully Microsoft will see that the only way to beat Apple isn't to just follow the Apple model of doing things but rather to follow said model AND give users the functionality that Apple won't provide, such as a filesystem, etc.
