I just listed my 8gb unlocked jailbroken phone on ebay and within 2hrs a buyer messages me offering $550 to end the auction and sell it to him. He says that he'll send the money to my paypal by using my email address, but im hesitant because I've never done this before. Is this shady to anyone else, I have no experience selling things online. Please help, I don't know what to do. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Where is he telling you to ship it?

Check his feedback and PayPal address to see if it's verified.

the buyer is Nigeria. Hmmmmmmm don't know?

Say no. Nigeria is always a scam. They usually want you to ship the item first and then they pay... lol... what a joke.

I got the same yesterday, with some guy telling me he'll give $1000 AFTER I ship him the phone.

Hi, i bought my iPhone (US) from ebay for 400$ including postage, the seller messed me around a bit, so gave be $20 as compensation.

meaning after everything, the iPhone had cost me £198

I just sold it on ebay for £240 (listed on ebay then a private sale)

so made a nice £42 profit, not bad for using the worlds best phone for 7 months!

the buyer is Nigeria. Hmmmmmmm don't know?

Don't sell.

They will send you an email with a web address which looks like a paypal address, when you click on it, it will look like the paypal site, so you will give them your details, they will then hijack your account, and go wild with your money.

Guys, I need your help. My auction ended and I sold an 8GB for 410 shipped. The problem is the guy is from Thailand and his address isn't confirmed through paypal. What should I do??? I'm obviously not going to ship first. Can someone give me some advice on how to handle this? Is this another Nigeria scam?? Thanks.

did you specify in your auction that you required a confirmed paypal address? if not, and he's already paid you through paypal, i don't think you have any grounds to not ship it. if you did state that it was required in your auction, email and him and ask him to have his paypal address confirmed and give him 48 hours or so, and tell him you'll refund his money and re-list it if it doesn't work out...

I bought at ATT go phone for $15 at the local walmart. I read that I could take my sim card out and put it in the gophone and it will work. I did this and it works fine. My question is the gophone came with a sim card that looks the exact same as my Iphone sim card just with different numbers. Can I sell my iPhone on Ebay and include the gophone sim card or will I need to sell it with no sim card. I just don't want anyone having any trouble activating the iPhone upon receiving it. Thanks

I just listed mine, but I'm very nervous having no reserve. I've never sold on ebay before and I'm kind of freaking out. Any changes you guys would suggest that I make to my auction?

Don't freak out I was in the same boat up until a few minutes ago.

i started mine at.99 yesterday and up until 3 minutes ago it was only at 37 bucks. Suddenly someone put in a 200 dollar bid. and I still got 3 hrs left.

Well the Auction ended and it went for $315.... kinda low....

Anywoo the winner was a newbie and one of those people who likes to bid with 30 seconds left and then you don't hear from them.

So I'll give the guy till tomorrow night to pay, otherwise I've created a thread in the Marketplace Forum to see if I can get it REALLY sold here.

The Buyer is stating that his paypal account hasn't been set up yet and he's still "unverified". And he said if it's cool by the morning, then he'll use a Family Member's account.

Should I be concerned? I told him whether it's account or theirs it must be a confirmed address or I'm not shipping.

UGH should stuck with USA bidders only. I think I've learned my Lesson!

I did not specify that I require a confirmed address because I thought all ebayers have their addresses confirmed; I mean its not difficult to. If I get delivery confirmation can he pull something like saying he never got the item and making a claim to PayPal. And if he could make a complaint would there be any way that he could get the money back?? Thanks.

Just sold my 8GB on eBay for $360. I had a reserve price of $350.

I'm satisfied with the amount, now to pay the eBay + PayPal fees and watch it drop to $340.

Haha, I think I was watching your auction? Did you have one picture and then links to 3 other pictures?
I was worried for you and thought you had set your reserve a bit too high.

Ha, yeah, that was me. I didn't want to sell the phone for less than $350. I'm only 16 and money doesn't come too easy, so I needed to minimize the loss as much as I can.

My reserve was $350. I wasn't too worried about it, just about every auction was selling for at least $350, so I figured that's a good reserve spot.

I already have a little over a $100 saved for it. I'm hoping to get the $499 version of the phone because I was starting to run out of space on my 8GB.

i sold it for 320... i sold it to my sis' boyfriend.. so i didnt wana charge too much..
my mom bought it for me.. so ya.. we got it the day the price dropped..
i know i couldve charged more.. but ya is that a decent price?
its an 8gb 1.1.4 jailbroken, one .5 mm 1.5 inch long black line from my incase rubber case.. but i also bought a invisible shield for the screen...
he still hasnt paid so should i ask for more?

no, a confirmed address with paypal is not automatic. if you don't ship to a confirmed address, paypal's seller protection policy may not apply (you should contact them to find out the details). anyone, regardless of whether or not they have a confirmed address, can do a chargeback via paypal, so it won't help in that area.

you could still request that the buyer have his address confirmed - just say you are surprised he didn't as you don't encounter this often, and ask if he'll do it. but i don't think you can get out of shipping it to him in the end if he can't or won't...

If we're wanting to sell, do you think it's wise to do it before the 3G is officially announced?

I mean...I am tempted to put mine up this afternoon, but what will I do without my iPhone for that long? =[

I say, put it up for a 24hr auction tonight. So it will end tomorrow night.

Once the new phone is announced then prices will probably drop for the old model.

I doubt you'll be without one for long, they want to get these things on sale asap. I'm still holding my date of Friday the 13th as a strong possibility.
