I just did an unboxing of all the parts, here they are:

It's not easy to tell from the photos, but the front panel is off center by about half a millimeter. Not enough to make me go crazy or anything, but I just thought I'd let everyone know.

Update: I'm an idiot. I measured the sides of the display wrong; it is identical on both sides. It looks like these new parts are of much higher quality. I'll try to post a picture of the measurements a little later on.

Edit: Here are pictures I took of the measurements (sorry that they are blurry):

That's great news buddy. I hope I'll be lucky enough to get a good batch too. I sent my phone over to them last week for a conversion and it should arrive at their office tomorrow.

ifix conversion

So sorry for the delay. I got my phone back from ifix direct on good friday (only a day later than i expected, 4 days total). I was happy wih the white color. It was a very nice kind of mac-booky white and of pretty good quality.. but.. There were a number of issues: The front panel had a streak of light shining across just underneath the speaker and front camera. It also had a little light leaking through the side nearest the volume buttons. The back panel was much worse around the sides and had light literally blazing through between the back panel support frame and metal antennae all around the phone as if the part did not fit at all (this was extremely obvious in low light or dark when looking at the side (antennae) of the phone). On the flash diffuser ring, the paint was sloppy, chipped and inconsistent.

I called them and decided to drive to the apartment where they are currently doing the conversions in Brooklyn. They were young kids in their early 20's, were very nice and seemed genuinely interested in helping people with their phones. One thing i can say is that THEY ARE (probably) NOT ZEETRON. I saw a lot about that on this forum and didnt see any evidence of that while i was there. With that said, The new shipment of parts they showed me seemed to be of good quality (l looked at almost all of what they had in stock as well as parts from the last batch), however despite trying many different front and back panels (many of the back panels still had the inconsistent, chipped paint around the flash diffuser), we were unable to find one that didn't leak light from the sides. We were actually able to slide a piece of paper inside the phone through the side between the back panel and antennae to prove that its not just coloring that is the problem: its that the part simply does not fit flush on the antennae. The guys were helpful and verbalized that they were willing to try all the parts until i had a perfect phone, but we just couldnt find any combination of parts that fit flush. They told me theyd test some in the next batch and send me a new backplate that hopefully fits completely flush. we will see.

When i started looking to convert my phone to white, i emailed every single website and they all said something like, 'our parts fit completely flush and everything is perfect.' Ifix direct told me they had not previously been aware of the light leaking through the sides problem. People: do complain about these not being perfect and possibly these conversions will be much better. Im guessing a lot of people have this poblem, they just dont know (or dont care enough to complain?)

All in all, The back panels from ifix direct currently really do not fit at all, light leaks through the sides and it may have chipped, inconsistent paint around the flash diffuser. (I can almost promise you will have one or both of these problems with the current stock). However, The front panel (at least the one i got) fit very close to perfect with a very little bit of light coming through between the volume buttons and front support frame. This is only noticeable in the dark (as opposed to just low light).

i am currently rocking my white back from iresq with ifix's white front. Oddly enough they look pretty good together and each part has only minimal light leakage.

So, the parts ifix have currently are a very nice white. They are glass and of good quality. They are willing to help and may be inconsistent at times, but do seem willing to work with customers on being sure that they are happy or at least only mildly disappointed. Word of caution: coming from someone who has been through two different companies and a handful of different parts, do not expect a perfect white iphone 4, but do not settle for anything less.

mine does leak light out the side aswell but it has to be pitch black!!! and is very minor it doesn't bother me because most of the time in a pitch black room i'm sleeping and not looking at the side of my phone. i also rock it with a black bumper and it looks really good!

regardless of the price of conversions there will be flaws.... if apple couldnt get it right what makes you think a few 20 year olds in an apartment in brooklyn will? I knew this before I started and i'm really happy with the results! I dont think this conversion is for perfectionists!

royorbs3- how much did you pay for the onsite conversion?

Is anyone have problems with ifixdirect website? It keeps not loading.

My ifixdirect full white conversion

I got my Full White Conversion DIY kit (Front/Back/headphone/dock connector) yesterday afternoon. Ordered it on CyberMonday right before midnight PST and sprung for overnight shipping. I seriously wanted them to do the conversion, as I didn't want to ruin my phone, which was a launch day unit with no launch day problems (no green/yellow spots/deathgrip/proximity issues), but they hiked their service prices and admitted to being backlogged. I'm comfortable around the innards of laptop and desktop computers, but haven't messed around with iPhones, until now. Sat around for about 3 hours disassembling, converting and reassembling. The headphone jack swap was indeed the WORST, because it also requires the involvement of the volume buttons and the mute switch! This and the fact that there isn't any video or photographic walkthroughs for this part! My two plastic tools broke on attempting to remove the original black screen, as the adhesive was really, really holding it down tight. My only advice is invest in a serious pair of tweezers too! Some of the screws are so small and can be a pain to put back into proper place when reassembling!

The parts appear to be of pretty high quality, but I have nothing to compare it too, but it doesn't look like cheap knock-off parts. There is faint light leakage along the border of the backplate and the metal band, but in a totally dark room, with the screen on. I personally am not bother by it, as these technically aren't official Apple approved parts. All the parts tested functional after being put back together, so no issues with front or back camera. No issues with proximity sensor or dock connection/charging/syncing. My biggest fear was putting it all together and then having something fail and then needing to go back in to fix, but I've got a winning unit so far! My unit is jailbroken running on the older v4.0.1, as I need my ultrasn0w unlock for global travel and wasn't in the least impacted by or impacted the color conversion. (I make mention of this as I think iFixdirect alleged a previous customer's proximity sensor failure was due to a phone being jailbroken.)

I'll post a few pictures of my phone, but like any of the other previous convertors' photos, they all look pretty much the same. I think the album has a few pictures of the unit sporting my soon to be retired old Black/Gunmetal Atomic Hybrid (I've got a White one on the way) and a few pictures of the gadgetboost.com's mini 30pin extender adapter. One pic is of it sporting the Power Support Air Jacket Clear, which is going to keep it safe, but looking good, for 3 more days until the White Atomic Hybrid arrives. I added a few pictures of all the failed cases I've tried, just to make sure I don't accused of working for Atomic, which I don't. I buy all my cases and I'll say good things about the ones that actually work for me, and bitch about the ones that don't. All in all I'm pretty satisfied so far and my wife is kinda jealous and hinting that she might want to have hers converted too... lol.

Here is my album of my new white iphone 4... I didn't want to direct link the pictures as they are huge, as in 4592 x 2576! http://yfrog.com/2hdsc00372ujx

I planned on posting pics earlier regarding the completed phone, as aesthetically it came out terrific. However, there is a serious functional flaw: the touch screen does not work. I thought maybe I missed a cable, so I spent another hour taking it all apart again, and everything was plugged in and correct, so I guess my front panel is bad. I've emailed iFixDirect for a solution as I'm really happy with the looks, but I do need a working touch screen since there is no other way to interact with it.

maybe youre right - its not for perfectionists, but if people complain enough it may raise the standard is all i was saying. Mine currently looks great (im using the back from iresq and front from ifix) with only minor light leakage in pitch black and that is ok, but with the back from ifix, i could see the light blazing through in only low light while just looking at the back of the phone because it didnt fit right. i couldnt live with that.

Is anyone have problems with ifixdirect website? It keeps not loading.

i paid (i think) $215 online a few weeks ago. they let me try many of their parts and reconverted it for free, of course, because i had already paid. the site loaded ok for me just now..

To all potential buyers, PLEASE HOLD OFF. I made a purchase on the 2nd of December and I have not heard from it since. I sent multiple e-mail to them and only the first one was replied promising next day shipping but it's been 3 days since that reply...

Am losing faith in them, going to be really disappointed if it doesnt arrive by xmas.

i try to do the conversion by my self, but couldn't do it. The screws are so small and i broke the fry tool :(
then i send email a to ifixdirect five days ago and asked them if they can convert it for me, but they never reply. is anyone know a site that can do conversion?

Depending on where you live , just find a place that repairs iphone 4s and they should be able to do it for you... but expect to pay big bucks, i got a quote to get it done (including dock and HJ) the guy told me $100 cdn .

i went to some iphone repairs store, but they said they can't do it because the home button is supposed to have a cable or something not only the button. And i told them they can just peel the black button and put the white button ( just like in youtube video ) but they won't do it :(

I would advise everyone to hold off on conversions. The parts are not what they used to be. The reason the light leakage is happening is because the frames are not oem anymore therefore they are not straight.

Here goes my rant…..

AVOID IFIXDIRECT AT ALL COSTS. They are extremely unethical and don’t care about their customers at all. They make several claims to have great customer service on their site, however this is a joke and as superficial of a claim as they come.

I ordered their colorswap service on a Thursday, and was told I would receive a shipping label to send them my phone that day. When I had heard NOTHING from them until Monday, I shipped my phone out to them at my own expense. On Monday they told me I would have the phone back in my possession on that Wednesday….

On Thursday, when I hadn’t received anything, I give them a call. I am told that they were running a bit behind schedule but that my phone WAS shipped out via USPS express mail (overnight) on Wednesday. They provided me with the tracking number which showed only “electronic shipping info received”. They assured me it had shipped and that USPS was slow to update tracking.

For the next 12 DAYS, USPS tracking info still shows the same status. On the rare occasion I could get a hold of ifixdirect, they would blame USPS and assure me they had shipped my phone. One CS rep even said that she would initiate a lost item trace with USPS to locate it.

TWO WEEKS from when I originally sent out my phone I finally received it. To my surprise, it had be shipped by ifixdirect the DAY BEFORE with a DIFFERENT label number. This then perfectly explains why the original tracking number never showed any updates - Ifixdirect had never shipped it and was blatantly lying to me the entire time.

Now on to the phone… Wifi, GPS, and its compass were NONFUNCTIONAL when I got it back. Furthermore there was a blemish on the LCD display that was clearly due to a physical/hardware defect. I contacted Michael at ifixdirect on 11/29 and he agreed to send me a replacement screen. He guaranteed that I would have it on Wednesday (12/1) and that I should send my old screen back when I got the replacement. He said he would take my CC number as collateral until I returned the defective unit.

On Thursday (12/2), I am still yet to get the replacement screen. After many attempts, I finally get in contact with Michael who tells me it was shipped out and gives me a tracking number….you know where this is going. Tracking info shows billing info received, AKA it hasn’t been shipped. Michael/ifixdirect will not answer calls/emails.

In the mean time I opened up the phone to try to resolve issues with wifi/GPS/compass, and in the process, found that the damage to the LCD was done by whoever installed it. A screw was over-tightened right into the back of the LCD screen, damaging it…clearly their employees are “highly trained and skilled” as their website claims.

Finally on Monday (12/6) I file a claim with paypal, and tell my story. Ifixdirect replies by saying that I am the one who likely caused the damage to the LCD, and that they have asked me repeatedly to send the defective one back before they will ship the new one. I laughed when I read this because of how ridiculously false their claims were. I have since escalated it to a dispute.

Bottom line:
If you haven’t already ordered from them and are considering it: DON’T DO IT!!!!

Their parts are either defective, or will surely become damaged/defective by one of their extremely unskilled employees. Furthermore they will lie to you with no hesitancy whatsoever. Don’t count on paypal to save you if something goes wrong…they will blatantly lie to paypal as well to alleviate themselves of any fault.

If you have already ordered from them: DON’T TRUST THEM AT ALL.
If they say have shipped something, it is 99.9% likely that they haven’t. They will very convincingly try to reallocate blame to USPS, but this isn’t the case. If you are in a position where they say something was overnighted a matter of days ago and you still haven’t received it, I GUARANTEE YOU that the label number that the item finally ships with is NOT the same as the one they provided you when they claimed to have shipped it.

This is hands down the least ethical/greasiest company I have dealt with. All of their employees are trained to lie to you.

I think it’s hilarious that they offer an iPhone insurance plan as well. You’d be PAYING THEM to take your phone off your hands for a few weeks without knowledge of its whereabouts, lie to you, and then get the phone back in worse condition that it was in when you sent it. Sounds like a bargain to me.

Man... I'm realy sorry you had to go through all that... You and I were in the same boat there for a while, and I'm guessing the reason my tracking info never updated was because he gave me a bogus TN. I didn't think to check it when I got the package. I know how you feel. I just hope PayPal can help make it right... Having gone thorugh all this and seen the quality of the parts, I would say that the white conversion isn't really worth it for anyone...

I am a very impulsive person and I tend to do things without giving them much thought. Had I thought about this for any period of time, I would've come to the conclusion that it wasn't worth it.

I actually ended up changing my iPhone back to black and selling the white parts on eBay for $50 more than I paid for them. I'm lucky I came out $50 ahead on this one, but let ajoj's story be a warning to you all.

Thanks, man. What ended up making you ditch the white parts?

It was an impulse buy for me as well. However I think that if you can source good parts from a responsive vendor and do the conversion yourself (not hard at all), it may not be too ridiculous to do the colorswap. You'll make your money back on ebay without a doubt, either by selling the white iphone or the parts alone. I just wanted to warn all lurkers of this thread to stay away from the crooks at ifixdirect.

I got rid of the parts was because I could make a profit selling them. I guess I started getting a little buyer's remorse after a couple of weeks, and I started noticing all of the slight imperfections in the parts. When I saw that I could make at least $50 by selling them, it was a no-brainer for me.

I'll back you up in warning people not to do the conversion through iFixDirect. Although I can't say that I recommend anyone at this point.

Man I didn't realize the parts were bringing a premium... Tempted, but love having a white phone too.

I think it was because I got lucky getting the conversion done just before everyone's prices went up. I also had the only auction style listing on eBay. Some idiots have them set at Buy It Now for $4,000!

i started seeing some peeling underneath the glass on the white parts, it was small and minor but when i pushed on it, you could tell in time it would cave in. luckily i sold the whole phone for around 800 and bought another i4 with an upgrade. so i came out winning at the end by making a profit. i warned him about this but he ignored it, he made his money and i was fortunate to make mine.

i wouldn't recommend the conversion from anyone because in time we have no idea how the parts will hold up. i have warranty on my black phone so im more secure, on the white phone i would be screwed. I couldn't live with that.

Im still unsure why anyone would even consider ordering any white parts at all from anyone at this time after numerous complaints and even someone who has a business on black to white conversions says to not order anything as the quality of parts are crappier than any sports team in cleaveland...doesn't seem worth it at all. It's costly, you lose your warranty, and I have yet to come across a post where there were absolutely no problems at all. I personally don't want crappy parts on my phone. No thanks, keep your "slightly off centered but it's okay I'm getting used to it" parts to yourself.

for those of you who sent your phone to them for the conversion.. what have been the time frame for you to get it back after they receive it?

Sent out my perfectly working phone on a Monday, got it back 14 days later with a defective screen, and nonfunctional GPS/WiFi/Compass.
