Alrrighty. I've done the repair again today; this time with fresh eyes. And everything now works; including the wifi. EXCEPT for the Front Facing Camera.
I've tried reconnecting the cable but no idea what's going on. Anyone have any ideas?

Meanwhile the back that wefixmac supplied is rubbish; the display is good but the home button and the back are rubbish. Anyone know a cheapy good one?

it sounds like all the parts are generally trash.

The amount of people getting full kits with no problems is drastically smaller than it should be.

Try taking those cables off and putting them back on... does it show up as black? did it work before? there may be something in the way of the camera... but my first assumption would be to redo the cables.

Finally got my phone back after 10 days from the time they supposedly shipped it. Found out they sent me an unused label number to shut me up for a few days, and when they finally shipped it two weeks later, it came in overnight with a different label. All the while they were assuring me that it had already shipped.

Now on to the hardware....wifi signal is EXTREMELY weak (must be within 3 feet of router) and GPS won't get signal at all (all apps using location show large circle indicating cell tower triangulation, not the outward pulsing circles indicating GPS lock). Also the screen has a small blemish/discoloration on the LCD.

Since they will (supposedly) be sending me a replacement screen so can do the DIY swap (since I refused to send them my phone), any suggestions on getting wifi and GPS working again while I have it taken apart (other than previous few posts regarding wifi)?

Edit: also wanted to add that the compass is not functional at all. Continues to say that there is interference, even if I try to calibrate it by doing the figure-eight waving motion....

I am pissed.
Their customer service has been dropping since I've first ordered from them. The first half of November, their customer service was great but when I had to follow up with my order in the last half of November, the customer service has been so inconsistent.

So I ordered 2 DIY color swap kits, one for myself and one for the GF on Nov 4. We received the kits on Nov 11. I successfully installed the kit on my iphone on the night of Nov 11 and it looked great. GF couldn't upgrade her phone to an iPhone 4 until Nov 15 and when she finally got her phone, I helped her install the white kit. Unfortunately, when we were finally done, 2/3s of the touch screen (vertically) was unresponsive. Great... we have a faulty kit. So we call back ifixdirect at 8:30PST and was ensured by the customer service rep that we can send back the full faulty kit and they will get us a new replacement as soon as they receive it. So we send it out from the West Coast on Nov 16 and they receive it on Nov 18. No response or contact.

Since the GF really wanted her white iphone4 kit, we called on Nov 22 and was informed that our kit would be shipped out in the next few days. Like many of you we also received an mass email from the company stating that their stock was low.

Fast forward to November 30, we decided to do a live chat with the service rep and was informed that our replacement unit would be sent on wed Dec 1st with a confirmation number. Dec 1 comes and by the evening we still didn't receive any email confirmation or delivery confirmation, so this time the GF was even more pissed so she calls up the company and speaks to the manager.

We were informed that they currently have 20-something units but they are faulty/low quality than their first batch/bad aesthetics with glue on the sides so they're not sending those out. They are expecting a new shipment from China this week and supposedly will send out their orders when they receive them. Of course, I will not believe this until I actually receive a delivery confirmation and having the physical unit in my hands. On Saturday, it will be a month since I placed the initial order. I will be telling the GF to wait patiently for another week or two before she decides to file dispute on Paypal.

What I don't understand is, if they are low on stock or if the current stock is unusable, why not state that on their website and stop letting people keep buying them online. Just say "sold out" or "sold out but will restock on blah blah date." Or people can just pre-order--specifically state that--but don't accept and process the money until you know for sure you can meet those demands. Maybe even start a wait list for people so they don't have to dish out their money to the company until actual units are in stock.

Im starting to question if this conversion is even worth it after all...
+1

I was suckered into getting a conversion done too. I dont want to say it's a failed stint yet, but I'm beginning to believe so. At least I can still get a hold of the people I sent my phone to, unlike iFix.

We are trying. For anyone considering this swap . Right now hold off. Parts have dropped in quality from about a week ago. We are trying to solve the issue we have for three forum members after that we wont do anymore until issues in china with parts are back up to par....just being as honest as I can right now....

iFixDirect Seems Dead ??

I ordered the full conversion ( send it to them deal ) this past Monday evening. Cyber Monday discount $240 plus $50 overnight shipping both ways. They hit my card for the $290 right away. Order confirmation and Paypal emails came right away. No shipping label was emailed. I chatted online on Tuesday and the rep said I would receive an email with the shipping label within 24 hours. That came and went and nothing. Chat has been down Wed onward and no one answers the phone, just a voicemail. I have emailed 3 times and left a voicemail asking for a refund and no response at all. I sent my phone off to a more reliable shop and they have it now. If I get no response and refund from iFixDirect in coming days I will contact my credit card company to dispute the charge and get them to do a chargeback to get my money back.

I think the supply of quality parts has dried up !

Issue ?

What "issue" are you trying to solve for 3 forum members ? What is the issue ?

That really sucks. If it makes you feel any better, my hunch is that the guys at ifix don't have any bad intentions, they're just a touch incompetent regarding customer service issues. Good luck!

iFixDirect

Well still no word at all from iFixDirect. Total Silence.

I called Paypal this morning and they filed a dispute against them to refund my $290 back to my credit card.

Good we are protected by using credit cards with below the belt merchants like this type. Shady operation.......

It took them a couple days but they responded to me eventually. My kit was shipped out yesterday and is out for delivery today. I will post screen shots and impressions of the kit when I get it and when I do the conversion.

i had 6 people come up and ask me where i got the white iphone today alone! if you can get the conversion done i would have to say it is worth all the bull ****!

White Parts

Has anyone ordered from chinaontrade ? They have white iPhone 4 parts in stock that look pretty good. They are glass. The question is how good is the quality ?

Took mine to local Apple store to get my mom a trackpad for her birthday and I've never been talked to or look down upon with such distain before in an Apple store before.

3 different specialist;

"What, you couldn't wait for us to release it"
"that's such a waste of money"
"you know your warranty is void now"

Im sure They were just jealous.

A few customers on the other hand asked where I got it.

This is kind of off topic, but I love you white phone. Who did the work and what did it cost to have it done? You can pm me if you don't want to share that info publicly.

I had it done by IfixDirect, the people this threads about.

While the stories continue to get worse from them my experience overall was a good one. There were a few hiccups along the way, go back a few pages and youll see my write ups and full story.

ya the guys at the apple store here are kind of dicks to lol. I was at a big box electronics store and allmost everyone of the sales people came up and asked how i got a white iphone it was funny at first but i needed to get some christmas shopping done!

you must have told the guys at apple that you got it converted? i perffer to lie lol about how my cuz works for apple in cali or some other made up such and such....

I bought everything (front lcd assembly, home button, headphone jack, dock connector) besides my backplate off ebay. I bought the backplate off iresq and had ifixdirect convert it for me. no issues for me but then again that was the very beginning of november.
my friends are all jealous hehe... and finally one guy in class asked me if i had a white iphone and where i got it

Try taking those cables off and putting them back on... does it show up as black? did it work before? there may be something in the way of the camera... but my first assumption would be to redo the cables.

It doesn't show up as black; the shutter does not open. So when I switch to front facing camera it crashes the camera app and I have to restore from backup to get the camera to switch back to the front-facing one. I've tried reseating the cable but it doesn't work. Not sure what's wrong. Might take it apart again. In the meantime do you know if there's anyway I can re-use the speaker mesh from my old one. Is that possible?

Cheers.
