Another rush job, another fail. If only they'd announced it at the end of 2017 and still been unable to release it

Regardless of the utility of the current design they have attempted something that most people would think not possible.
I do hope they eventually succeed.

In the words of Ian Malcolm...

"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

Considering that despite everything the (current) Galaxy Fold won't be used by anyone I think it is fair that Samsung asks for the tear up removal.

But from a PR perspective it would be smarter for Samsung to just let it be. It is not like anyone won't notice what a screwed up almost launch that this was. In fact with this request they are just helping everyone remind even better.

Say what you want about Samsung... at least they are innovating.... what’s Apple doing besides adding a freaking camera lense

It’s no way I’m upgrading from my mid spec XS Max this year

Innovation is something different than bringing any newly available technology to market.

Btw you have no idea what apple will bring up besides the third lense.

And through Samsung’s ups and downs.... Apple is becoming the Honda Civic of the smartphone world.... and no that’s not a compliment

Are Honda civics the most expensive car on the market, no. Then not really an apt comparison.

Think your referring to Samsung there.

I have no love for Samsung but I agree with them here. These were review units that I’m sure came with a NDA. And review units that are most likely still owned by Samsung. iFixit has no business tearing down a device they don’t own.

I wouldn't say they junked the idea, they'd have to wait until they can buy the screen tech from Samsung since they can't make it themselves. So Samsung would have to make the display/form factor work first in order for Apple to bring this to the market. If Samsung can make it work they can sell some themselves but it'll also be good for their screen biz as other companies will come calling for the screens. So Apple is just waiting around.
Samsung however is a display manufacturer, Apple not. Small but important difference...

I feel so good about Apple axing the airpower now! Way to go! Saved themselves the embarrassment. It is definitely not worth being the first when you can't get it right.

Agreed, but there is a caveat: I bought a charger that can charge my iPhone XR, my Air Piss, and my Apple Watch all at once. And it didn’t cost $200 either. Jus sayin

Air Piss! LOL!

It s time to put back the advertisement : hello I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC....

With subtle changes :

Hello I'm an iPhone, and I'm a Samsung Flop...

Just sweet revenge as samsung was so childish to mock apple and their customers...

“ The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything. Which is why Apple does so well chucking out rehashed versions of its old products” So said Theodore Roosevelt all those years ago! How uncannily accurate was that! And was it not also Lincoln who claimed “Never believe anything you read on the internet”.

"iPhones now serve only to provide a mechanism by which Apple can price gouge their customers on storage upgrades."

Their invention of the folding screen is cool, but it's not really innovation until it's put into a valuable application. Right now, they slapped two phones together with their folding screen and called it a day. This product is no better than what we have today. A super thick awkward phone that unfolds to a small tablet with no apps and lousy hardware. That's not innovation, that's lazy. Apple innovates (look up definition if needed) by continuously improving on current technology while applying it to real world applications. It's the reason you currently own an XS Max and it's likely flawless for you. Is it flashy? No. Does it work exactly as it should day in and day out? Yes.

Makes sense. Samsung needs to go back to the drawing board on this one, maybe even start from scratch. A rumored June launch feels way too soon for this device to be fixed. If they couldn’t get it right in 6 years, is 2 months really going to do it? I say push to 2020 and fix the hardware, software, and try to come up with some valuable use cases.

Is that really how long they’ve been working on this phone?

Considering that despite everything the (current) Galaxy Fold won't be used by anyone I think it is fair that Samsung asks for the tear up removal.

Why is that fair? Should newspapers not be allowed to post yesterday’s baseball scores because there will be new games played today?

Should car magazines not be allowed to share photos of prototype cars because nobody will ever be able to drive one?

If someone got a hold of a prototype AirPower should ifixit not be allowed to tear it down and publish to the world why it was defective?

Innovation is completely useless when it's released like this. Apple innovates plenty - it just doesn't manifest in gimmicky features that aren't ready for public use. Their innovation comes on the inside of their phones. I'm sorry you can't appreciate that and are only concerned with the latest "feature".
