I don't have a problem with Apple putting so much care into a product.

I do have a problem with the fact that everyone is covering this product like it's the next Apple Watch when it's dramatically less than the next Apple Pencil... it's hard to think of a product that matters less than the AirTag.

I'm confused - I already owned a pack of Tiles 6 years ago. They died and I never replaced them because there wasn't anything useful to attach them to. Why do people still have stuff they lose?

Wallet? What for? Nearly everything is digitized and on my phone or watch. The case on my phone holds 3 physical cards as backup.

Keys? My phone, watch, and car can all lock/unlock my house. I keep the physical backup in my glovebox of my car. My phone can be used for my car, and I have a physical backup in my wallet case.

Phone? My Watch can help me find it (honestly, this is probably the most useful functionality on the Apple Watch...)

What else is there to lose?
Newsflash: You are not the center of the universe. Just because YOU don’t need/want something, doesn’t mean other people are the same. I have no doubt I could find things you need or want that would be completely useless to me.

Taking the battery out is a feature.. they even explain how to do it if you scan it with NFC

So, where's the FUNCTIONAL lanyard attachment?!

You know, the thing that makes it actually USEFUL?

More Ive Semi-Functional Coffee Table Book 'design'.

Now, get an engineer to make it useful without having to accessorize it like a Barbie Doll.

I’ve used four without a lanyard. Why do I need a lanyard to make them useful?

So Apple is responsible for how small and thin everything is? Or more likely, that's just the march of technology over time. EVERYTHING got smaller and thinner.

I will say that Apple definitely played a key role by showing that design mattered, and that more importantly, consumers were willing to pay for good design. I think we can all remember the days of bulky, heavy and uninspiring windows laptop form factors. Conversely, a product like the MacBook Air could only happen because Apple was willing to go the extra mile and rethink what people really wanted in a laptop, rather than just throw every single spec inside.

Apple had the audacity to tell the user - I think this one core experience is worth more than every other feature combined, and they were right!

If not for the MacBook Air, a product category like the ultrabook would never have occurred.

Fast forward to today. We have better looking hardware and better designed software and everyone is better off for it. No more unnecessarily thick laptops just because someone was too afraid to leave out the VGA port.

The PCB is very aesthetically pleasing. The bigger dots look like are IO pins for diagnosis or flashing, so curious what hardware tinkers may discover there. But the smaller mid-sized dots are an interesting choice (not the pinhead sized ones, but those are interesting too.)

Anyone familiar with this style of chip manufacturing? Reminds me a bit of the Microbit:

Hopefully some pictures will emerge of the underside as well!

Those just look like test points to me. I think you’re right on the largest ones being I/O for diagnostics or JTAG.

Lanyard? I doubt anyone wants to wear one of these around their neck. Although there appears to be a LOT of folks upset that other folks, that would also never wear one around their neck, aren’t able to wear one around their neck :)

Where are the darned earring accessories? One on each ear, I say. That way you can always know where the thing between your ears is.

Is it a great idea to replace an internal battery with slippery, dirty hands? I don’t think so. So Apple forces you to clean your hands first. Some think that’s bad, but it insures you put a clean battery in.

Apple finally makes a product with a replaceable battery, but folks still have to find something to complain about. :)

Don’t keep your house key in your car. If someone breaks into your car, they get your address from the paperwork in the glovebox and in your case, the house key too.

I hear you on wondering why people are buying 8. Personally I’ll have just 1 for my work bag.

The glovebox is locked and hidden - they couldn't open it even if they realized it was there. And if they choose to bust through it (why so much effort?) I've got a video recording from several angles of them breaking in + I got an alert and have GPS tracking so police are on the way to bust them anyways.

And if all that fails, I suppose I just reprogram the garage to stop opening for the car and change out my physical locks? Not too hard to get a guy out to do that...

This kind of gadget makes people dumber and dumber. If you’re young yet need things like this to track your important things, there’s something wrong with you.
How in the world does this make people dumber? Reading your post on the other hand…

People misplace things. People forget things. People’s things get taken. Lots of reasons for this product. If you don’t need it GREAT don’t buy them.

What a beautiful design. Everything in a circle like it should be. I studied industrial design and as always apple create art, they are incredible at going the extra mile to make it look gorgeous inside and out! Something they got from Steve and Johnny! It actually looks a bit like Apple Park in there! 😄
Vey quickly, why should it be in a circle?

I think it's hilarious that Creative Electron put an X-ray image of a skull (George Washington's, apparently) on the quarter that's shown in the X-ray image. As if that's what you'd see if you X-rayed a quarter! Bwahaha!

(I mean, the skull is way too big. It's substantially bigger than the guy's head on the actual quarter. Come on, Creative Electron. We need better funny fakes than this.)

As you can see from the pictures in this very article, Apple goes way beyond what other companies do in terms of industrial design and clean internal structures. These three products are basically the same generation, yet Apple crams more functionality into a smaller space and still makes it look good inside and out.
