This is a stupid in my opinion. It's about balance and also about taking advantage of the space to give good rich sound... which how can that be a bad thing? The device is getting 9-10 hours of battery life... sounds pretty good to me and I'd love to have the better sound - an area I wish they could improve on the iPhones too - but that's much tougher given the space.

Here's what you see when you open up a Surface Pro 4 and an iPad Pro. The first one looks so messy.

It's beautiful! The second picture that is. :)

I don't understand how they have a heatsink sitting on top of the battery??? Looks so chaotic. Do they not design these things to maximize space?

Who needs battery? We need thinner!!!

Isn't it time to stop beating this horse? We get it, you think thinness is an arbitrary choice made because Apple hates battery life.

iFixit has an agenda, they also have some good points, but not necessarily points that tell the whole story of how to bring a device to market, make it viable or balance issues of sustainable design. iPad Pro is very interesting product and I'm very interested to see one in person.

Outrageous! I'm almost as upset about this as the design of a Starbucks cup! Maybe we should boycott this war on battery life hehehe

You can be sure that any post that starts with the phrase "fact is" isn't.
Oh it's more complicated than that. On this forum if it is a matter to criticize Apple , facts are facts. If you try to defend it, facts are dismissed as personal opinions...

I'm sorry max, do you own an ipad pro?? Cause I got mine this morning and while the speakers are much better, its not damn sound system!

To call it a sound system is nonsense or plain not have experienced the product themselves
Sure. It's not a sound system... It should be a graphic system or what else ? A beeper like on my old 8088 PC, right ?

I know, and as an engineer I love the Apple's way to design devices, even in the interior. Would you like to speak about MacBook Pro or, even better, MacBook? Those devices aren't supposed to be user serviceable, but are beautifully designed nonetheless... That's just the Apple's way.
But haters gonna hate...

In a weird way the design makes sense, if this is truly supposed to be a laptop replacement as Cook stated. Although, I still don't see a huge market for this device beyond serious mobile artists and the Jones's we try to keep up with. Maybe those demographics want something with more Beats speakers and really don't care about marginal battery improvements or weight increases.

This was a fairly standard review from iFixit. This was their actual comment on the speakers/battery:

That's space that could have potentially been used for an extra 50% battery capacity. We're sure Apple was very careful setting the balance between battery capacity, weight, and sound quality.

I think it's a reasonable comment hence why I consider this headline clickbait. And had Apple filled up the device with more battery it would have been heavier and people would have complained about that. That's what people did when the iPad 3 was noticeably heavier and thicker. But I'm sure the ATP boys will go on their usual battery life rant and tell us Apple arbitrarily decided 9-10 hours is good enough and that's all they're ever going to give us. Because it's not about balancing and weighing different factors; Lord Jony decided you only need 10 hours so that's all you're going to get. /s

Put me down as someone who would rather iPads get lighter than have bigger batteries. 10 hours is plenty without needing to top up.

WAIT! iFixit is telling us that it has a low repairability score. What a shocker. And this is news or important why? It's AN iPad. You're not really suppose to take it apart yourself!
Amazing.

And when GM tells you you're not supposed to fix your car yourself, even if you had the required know how, you'll happily accept that as well?

What I find the most funny thing (and one of Apple's biggest failures with this ipad pro) is that the pencil availability is 4-5 weeks now in Canada and yet, I can get an ipad pro today. Colossal failure on Apple's part...

I guess the question is how much the extra battery would weigh. I doubt the speakers way as much as the battery would!

I was thinking about weight too, especially with something like an ipad that you will be holding one handed as opposed to a laptop that sits on your lap or a desk.

It´s 700g-ish as is, more battery would make it a non-portable device..

Holding my 600g-ish iPad 2 in one hand for a longer period of time is a no go, I always use it on my lap or a table instead..

So, less battery is a good choice this time :)

Don't we just love hyperbole ?

Sorry, the Air 2 speakers are crap. Its the only thing I do not like about my ipad Air 2.

if you believe they are good, well its a case of one man's trash is another man's treasure!

The ipad pro has very good speakers, and the Air 2 sounds terrible in comparison.

Beautiful inside as well as outside. Thats what I love about Apple products.

Reading through these posts, reminds me of how lucky Apple is to have all these "experts" speculating why and making excuses for Apple's battery phobia.

You know, the fear of leading the competition in battery life, making your customers very happy, and other such accomplishments Apple could achieve but is too bloody stubborn to execute on.

MR conveniently left out the second part of their statement

I'm not sure the teardown was necessary for this particular insight. It was plain to see at the product intro that the speakers took up a large volume of the device's interior. At least it is not like the 1st gen iPad, which was full of unused space. That thing was like a bulky prototype, something they couldn't be bothered to refine before release.

Oooooh, not just a failure. But a COLOSSAL FAILURE! Perhaps demand for the pencil exceeded Apple's wildest expectations? Sometimes that even happens with new iPhones being introduced, pushing out availability for several months. Fortunately, we all have choices and different brands available. Maybe a Surface Pro would be better for you?

Good god no. I think I have better sense than to buy a GM vehicle.

Apple: We removed 4 speakers and increase battery size. We revolutionized the iPad Pro experience.

Mac Rumors: Apple makes iPad Pro super heavy and no sound. if only they left two speakers and didn't make the batteries bigger like we said in our last article.

However, iFixit notes that the speakers take up a significant amount space that could have been used to increase battery capacity by 50 percent.
I guess it's a personal preference, but I'd rather have the premium sound. Reviews have said that the battery on this thing is as good as, if not better than, the battery of the Air 2. When I'm using my Air 2 for work and games and video streaming all day, I typically get 11 or 12 hours out of that battery, which is more than I need.

But yeah, I guess if you are in a situation where you go days without seeing a charger, 50% might be nice. But I'm also guessing people in that situation are in the minority.

As an artist, I like this iPad mainly for the apple pencil which only works with the iPad pro. Otherwise, I think I'll wait. If the iPad pro is going to replace laptops as Tim Cook alluded to...then it'll need to run OSX AS WELL AS IOS. Until that happens, I don't see the point. It is a lovely digital sketchbook tho. Now if the next iPad air and iPad mini will be able to work with the apple pencil, then I'll just get one of those. I love the portability of my mini. And I think the iPad air is the largest I'd want to go for an iPad. The iPad pro has a screen as large as a MacBook or a 13" MacBook air. If I'm gonna lug an iPad around that big, it had better run OS X.
