These apps are all awesome looking, but it seems most of the demoed apps are in a price category that lends themselves to the professional market. Hence the pro, sure. "Lots of us" would love to have one of these but will likely be relegated to watching movies and pecking at Word docs.

A comparison of the components on the table after the teardown is quite impressive. Apples stuff still looks like it was designed by aliens whereas the Microsoft components are fairly nondescript in design.

Let me understand... Last year when whiners on this forum started complaining about the "resonating iPad Air 2" the "fact is most people who own iPads use headphones " wasn't valid, while this year it is ?
Interesting...

I like the way your argue Max, when people on these forums complain, they are a minority that do not represent the user base, but when you want to make a point, this minority suddenly becomes the majority.

Kettle...pot.....

Fact is Ipad speakers have always been meh.... since the first ipad! So for the last 5 years or so, most people if they want good sound, have used other means. And fact is, as I own an iPad pro, my headphones are FAR FAR superior. Though excellent improvement since Ipad Air 2, what are total crap.

Id rather a bigger battery than better speakers to be honest.. The only sounds my iPad air makes out loud at the moment is notifications.. if I even have it off silent. Everything else goes through my Beats Studios or EarPods.

Never understood this obsession for bigger/longer lasting batteries when the mobile devices (like iPad's) have already quite decent battery life. Are people really that lazy now days to take few seconds and plug the device on charge before they go to bed?

So after years of the iPad being known for great battery life and mediocre speakers, this is the headline we see once Apple puts good speakers in one.

This....

People (particularly the ones in this forum) are very very strange indeed!!

I think it's a conspiracy from Apple to design such a small unchangeable battery. If the battery dies, you have to buy a new one. It stimulates the sales. That's all. This explains why they don't want to implement bigger battery in their devices.

For every one of you, there' s another that takes the opposite stance. Apple has obviously settled on 10hrs being the goal for battery life when it comes to iPads. At least for now.

They have, and I wish they hadn't.

10 hours is just not enough for peace of mind. The original iPad had 10 hours five years ago. I have used an iPad extensively since the beginning-1 day (I received mine a day before the official release day of the first iPad), so I have a grasp of what is adequate battery life. iOS 9 has certainly helped a lot. The iPad and iPad 2 had excellent battery life. My iPad Air 2 has much worse battery life, despite being advertised as the same 10 hours.

I welcome the improved speakers, but hope that Apple can advertise 15 hours battery life for the iPad Pro 2 with a smaller, lighter design.

I think the process at apple was like this: we have a trade of between battery and weight and now we have a bit of space here, what to do? Then someone came up with great speakers and they marketed it as if it were the other way round.

Good point. This is the same with every single Apple product.
This is one of the reasons I love this brand.

Quite on the contrary you are twisting facts. When the target was bashing Apple on the resonating case, the speaker were important. Now suddenly all of us must use headphones.... incidentally the day Apple implemented a good designed sound system.

iPad Pro batteries aren't small by any means.

Beats, huh? I'd rather have better sounding headphones for that money.

Seems like we all like different things so maybe OK speakers and OK battery life is a good compromise.

You can't hold one set of people to what another set of people said last year. The internet is made of many people with conflicting opinions. Since a lot of Apple owners are proud and usually happy for their stuff, they tend to defend it. The ones that how the opposite opinion either don't care enough so they don't speak out, then there are people like you who are very vocal.

If you take the time to watch last year's whining about the resonating case of iPad Air 2 you would understand who was vocal ...
And I don't own an iPad Air 2, mate. If speakers aren't important, they aren't important in any case.

You can be sure that any post that starts with the phrase "fact is" isn't.

I thought quad sound systems went out in the 80's. The extra battery can't be any heavier than a laptop scenario. Two speakers should be enough. Now I'm going to go shave with my 9 blade razor.

The 4 speakers are more to reduce vibrations I think.
Ifixit makes me laugh, this kind of back seat engineering is beyond funny.

Also, it's not like they could make the speakers be zero size, since they needed to be bigger than in the Ipad, the comment from Ifixit is again spurious

Considering these things will be put on stands, walls , whatever and watched from farther away, they need bigger speakers that don't vibrate. The dampening takes some space. Acoustical engineering means they had some constraints.

Also, battery is heavy and this thing is already heavish; that could be a reason for not putting more battery in there. This thing is designed to be mobile after all.

I'm sorry max, do you own an ipad pro?? Cause I got mine this morning and while the speakers are much better, its not damn sound system!

To call it a sound system is nonsense or plain not have experienced the product themselves

Article title: "iFixit Teardown reveals…Design Eliminates up to 50% of Potential Battery Space".

Quote from article: "However, iFixit notes that the speakers take up space that could have been used to increase battery capacity by 50 percent."

One of these statements is false. If the title is correct, the quote would say "increase battery capacity by 100%".

If the quote is correct the title should read "33% of battery space".

Sorry if it's been pointed out already - I only had time to read one page of comments, and as the title/quote haven't been corrected I thought I'd post.

Cheers!

Mark
