they need to do a major upgrade to iWork to compete with the new Office

Having an "Office" would be a big help I would think.

I wish someone could download to me the logic behind how iWork works... it is SO different than many other apps I have used. It is a confusing proposition to migrate from MS Office (and Windows)...

I love Mac regardless... since I like a good challenge.

word seems like such an improvement over pages
and excel the same over numbers
plus outlook over mail

apple needs to revamp some of these apps/programs

Actually, iWork was never meant to compete with Office, just like iWeb is not there to compete with Dreamweaver.

yeah
pages is apples version of word
keynote is apples version of powerpoint
numbers is apples version of excel

apple seems to claim that it is their equivalent to office and is fully compatible with microsoft programs

Apple claims iWork is for real people not glassy eyed automata in suits

Back on topic

This thread is about iLife '11, remember?

When are we getting the new iLife??!! Who cares about iWork?:p

iPhoto 11

Will iPhoto 11 finally be able to work with more than a hundred of faces and with hundreds of events? I mean will it help to find something again? I really stuck with my photos.

I just wish iPhoto could upload to Facebook and tag people automatically with a link to their profile, not just a text tag.

(I know you can edit it to be their email in your contacts and it will do this, but I really don't have time / can't / some people won't give me their email associated with their FB account, and it has to be this email)

Anybody have a sense if iPhoto 11 might have Picassa or other non-Apple web album support built in?

They promote a Picassa plug-in for this now, which works beautifully, so they're obviously on board with the concept.

You do know that Pages has page-making functionality right?

Sounds like you just don't know how to use iWork.

I heard that it does. I left the dark side (of Windows) about two years ago and for most things there has been little transitional pain with Mail, Address Book, iPhoto, iDvd, iMovie, Mobileme, etc.

But when it comes to Pages, I feel like I am feeling around in a blacked-out room looking for the door knob to exit and someone changed the height of the knob. As for the address labels, I can manually layout a table, but think of the time to get that right.

I run both iWork and OpenOffice. I try iWork and if/when I get frustrated, I fall back to what can get the work done for me. I am still waiting for the epiphany the gels my understanding of iWork's ease of use.

While not as flexible as labels in Word, Address Book allows you to print labels directly to many templates. Doesn't help if your data is not in Address Book though.

redesigned iWeb? Ut-oh. I hope they didn't give it the iMovie treatment. I all but stopped making movies with iMovie, when they changed it.
