Probably not happening until September...

I was looking forward to this... Then I remembered that they would probably release the new iLife in September. :( Quite a bummer... I had my hopes up for August...

I was told by the Apple hotline that there will be a up-to-date program for about 10 bucks if i'd buy an iMac now.

I wanted to save the 10 bucks and was waiting until now... but as it hasn't been released as rumored, i'm just gonna order now.

I was really hoping for this as well. Honestly I even made a event in iCal. Typing that really brings home that I've become seriously geeky!

Dude, same exact thing here. Even told my family I'd buy the family pack and install it for them. *sigh* But I'm not a geek. I'm a nerd.

That's interesting to hear; I thought the $10 upgrade deals would only apply after the update had been officially announced. The concern that ilife might be upgraed in the next few weeks is the only thing stopping me purchasing a MBP.

In previous years has ilife or iwork been updated at the same time as the ipod touch? I find it inconceivable (sadly for me!) that the itouch would be updated before the end of the back to school promotion which means mid-september.

Or perhaps as others have said it might not be done until next year since most people seem happy with ilife09 (I am too but think iwork could do with upgrades).

Actually, Apple has previously updated the iPods before the back-to-school promotion has ended, but the rebate deal is worded very specifically each year to apply ONLY to the current generations when the promotion begins. The fine print specifies all qualifying model numbers, so even if Apple announced the new format iPod Touch lineup today, there would be no education deals to be had.

That said, they have previously updated iLife in August, independent of an iPod event, so I'm bummed that another Tuesday has come and gone without any mention of iLife. it does indeed seem that they're waiting for the new iPod event on September 7ish to unveil new iPods, iPads, and facetime for iChat, which they'll tie to iLife.

I want a sparkly functional diamondy adventure.

Oh, downed Apple store... what will thou giveth me in the morning?

Has anyone been able to find out any more info about this? Has apple done this before for products before they are announced and without announcing it on their site etc; ie a retroactive free/$10 upgrade for those who bought it shortly prior to it being annoucned?

I'm ready to order a new macbook pro but finances are a stretch anyway, don't want to be faced with paying to upgrade ilife within a few weeks cost to simply be up to date...

You're buying a macbook pro and can't spring for the $10 extra to get your computer early? Jeez.

I would think that with the new humungous data center coming, that Mr. Jobs is getting ready to launch the apple version of skype.
