Will my iphone 4 from apple come with a micro sim which I can use as a proper template?

Depends how literally they take "SIM-free". If you're going to an Apple Store, you could always ask for a micro-SIM for your "iPad". ;)

Why would you cut your sim card and risk that it doesn't work right, when the new i4 comes with a Micro Sim???

I simply do not see why people have to try and complicate things more just because they want to be different???

Well I'm on a blackberry contract and I want to use my unlimited internet on my new iphone 4, Vodafone is refusing to give me a micro sim and if anything goes wrong I can always ring Vodafone and say my sim isn't working and they'll send me a new one to attempt to make a micro sim again

Apple are selling the iPhone 4 without a sim (SIM-free). Therefore, if you have an existing iPhone contract (including a mega-SIM), and you don't get a replacement microSim from your telco, you will have to trim your existing SIM...

I cut my sim because I'm using my sisters upgrade and I didn't want to deal with AT&T to get our sim's switched especially not on launch day. So I cut my sim and I'm using it with an adapter in my 3GS. Next Thursday my cut sim will go into the iPhone 4 and she'll use her micro sim and the adapter in my 3GS.

Seriously? Are you simple!!??

This isn't a long thread so it's not hard to work out WHY people are doing this.

If you buy sim free from Apple, you're PROBABLY not going to get a micro sim card.

There's no guarantees that O2 stores are going to be giving them out on launch day.

In that scenario, what would you recommend genius?

I'm not cutting my Sim because my iPhone 4 I preordered from AT&T will come with a micro sim, but I did just purchase a micro sim adapter so I can use a dumbphone when I don't want to take my iPhone places.

I got it here: http://microsim-shop.com/

It's 6 EUR with free worldwide shipping which works out to about 7.50 USD with today's favorable exchange rates (for the US at least:))

Seems pretty essential until more phones start using micro sim

Thanks, I was just going to ask for one of these for my WinMobile tethering sim swap I do.

This applies if you already have an existing standard sim card on pay as you go or on contract and need to get your info ported to a micro sim.

A lot of the networks in the UK are new players to the iPhone and are clueless bout the whole micro sim thing

JESH. A IPHONE ON PAY AS YOU GO. hmm unheard of and you use pay as you go internet. thats gotta be a bite in the arse.. well a chunk taken out I mean

Some people are ordering the iPhone on a different line in their family plan then transferring it to themselves, so they can't use the SIM it ships with. Thus, they need to trim theirs down to fit in the device.

I'm planning on cutting mine down and 'activating' later.

I've ordered 5 free sims from T-Mobile UK to practice on!

Should be here in a few days time.

I have a bunch from buying and selling refurb iphones lol

For those that upgraded with different line (say a BlackBerry) that is not their own:

Will the upgraded number (ie BlackBerry) be tied to the embedded Micro SIM in the iP4? Or is it unactivated and you (say iP3GS) would be able to activate/SIM SWAP from their existing phone to the new Micro SIM?

Numbers are tied to the SIM. Put your SIM in any phone and your number goes with you.

When I check the status of my order (AT&T), it says:

iPhone4 qty 1
Various SIM qty 1

I was a little confused as to if ATT is shipping these phones with a sim included. But I thought Apple products came from china, so Im confused.

Anyway, im ready to (reluctantly) cut my current SIM to fit the new phone.

That is true if they are activated with/to that SIM. Once this process is done the SIM is not able to have another number tied to it.

However in the past I have been able to obtain a SIM card that has not been tied to/activated to a certain number. So I would like to know if the upgraded line for the iP4 will have that number tied to it or will it arrive unactivated so that you would be able to tie it to the iP3GS' number and not the BlackBerry's.

If I recall correctly (and I may be way wrong), when activating a iPhone via iTunes it asks you to type in your phone number, then the last for of your SSN to activate. At that moment your SIM is probably tied to the number you typed into iTunes.

That will be great news, I went to AT&T yesterday and got a Micro SIM card (unactivated and not tied to my iP3GS number) that they have for the iPad and I was going to use that as a back up. But from the reserach I have done on that particular Micro SIM it probably will not work in the new iP4's.

I Did that for my iPad i cut my att sim so it would fit and it worked. the thing is will the new sim in the iPhone work in my iPad or will it be locked (if possible) u know because att is retarded

Slightly worried here!

On the left is the SIM O2 gave me at the start of my 3GS contact, on the right is some old Orange SIM.

The O2 SIM's contact area is around 2/3 that of the standard SIM. Any ideas how to cut it down to micro-SIM?

I've never done the home iTunes activation since I got my 3GS from the store. The phone itself has to be activated as well as the card, correct? What I was thinking about was just cutting down my current sim and throwing it in the new iPhone until the inevitible activation mess clears up, and then do a propper activation. Is this possible or will I have to go through the iTunes activation before using the phone at all?

I've just spoken to Vodafone customer services about taking my current contract which is a BlackBerry tariff (only 5 months or so in to a 24 month contract) and having them send me a micro-sim. I told her I had pre-ordered the iPhone sim-free from Apple and she told me that they are going to send out micro-sims to customers who request them. She told me to phone a couple of days before I pick up the phone so that they can send out the micro-sim so that it arrives on the same day as I pick up the iPhone.

Here's hoping to what she said being true.
