That will be great news, I went to AT&T yesterday and got a Micro SIM card (unactivated and not tied to my iP3GS number) that they have for the iPad and I was going to use that as a back up. But from the reserach I have done on that particular Micro SIM it probably will not work in the new iP4's.

Great news guys, I was successful in tying my existing line to the iPad Micro SIM card to my iP3GS. Both voice and data works with this SIM card.

For those that are not aware the AT&T iPad Micro SIM has two cut outs the first cut out is the same size as the regular SIM that all AT&T deivces use now (except for the iPad and the iP4) and another cut out for the Micro SIM.

When I receive my iP4 I will use the second cut out and will not have to worry if the one that comes with it is activated to the other line I upgraded from.

I've just spoken to Vodafone customer services about taking my current contract which is a BlackBerry tariff (only 5 months or so in to a 24 month contract) and having them send me a micro-sim. I told her I had pre-ordered the iPhone sim-free from Apple and she told me that they are going to send out micro-sims to customers who request them. She told me to phone a couple of days before I pick up the phone so that they can send out the micro-sim so that it arrives on the same day as I pick up the iPhone.

Here's hoping to what she said being true.

Are you sure because I rang Vodafone earlier and they was not sure what a micro sim was? Will the blackberry plan work on iphone 4 then? (I'm in the same boat as you)

nlr-Positive it works. However my existing SIM was tied to my 3GS and not a BlackBerry. I upgraded my wife's line (BlackBerry) for the iP4 and my fear was that when it arrived the Micro SIM would be tied to her number and I would have to seek out another Micro SIM.

Would I be allowed to cancel blackberry services and get wifi instead? or is the blackberry services the internet as I will be using it on my iphone 4.

I cut down a spare sim using a guide sticker. Put it in an adapter and in my 3GS and it worked perfectly, altough with the adapter it was a tight fit.

Cutting it was easy. The board's pretty hard which is helpful for when you have to cut the narrow slivers off two of the sides. I just used a scissors and didn't experience any bending.

is there some place online (for USA) where i can buy a sim cutter?

Try this
Go to Google...I know you must hate it being an apple lover, but trust me on this one.
Type "sim cutter"
click "shopping" on either the left tab, or the top tab.
magically a bunch of them will appear for purchase.

Hey guys.

I currently have a UK T-Mobile pay monthly contract sim, and customer services have no clue on what a micro sim card is or if they will be stocking them.

It looks like I will have to cut the sim card down to size, however I grabbed a free three microsim today and the actual gold part is smaller on the micro sim!

I have no idea of what to do next, as I dont want to ruin my sim card.

Thanks

The contacts that are missing on the microsim aren't needed in modern phones. So when making a microsim from a larger one you can (have to) cut them off. I did it earlier with a Voda sim and it worked fine.

Did you pickup a micro sim from 3 store? and how much?

Ive done 4 different sims now (t-mobile, 3, 02 and vodafone) and all have them have worked with minor tweaks.

Sometimes the contacts on the sim come in different sizes i.e rectangular or circular but as long as you keep trimming it down it will work.

The most challenging part for me is remembering which direction to face the sim i.e bottom to top

I would go with the knife option but I don't have a Stanley blade. Maybe I could pick one up from one of the pound shops?

Or is it one those type of blades you have to get from a hardware shop and probably retails for £15 cos you have to buy a pack when you only need one for a few seconds?

I'm from the US but have a lot of UK mates, You just reminded me of Nann in the pound shop...LOL

Thought I'd make a thread for all the people who will be trimming down their sim cards to a micro sim on the 24th.

Ideally the networks should be sending out micro sims, but due to one reason or another a lot of us may have to resort to doing it ourselves.

I'm with t-mobile uk and the chances of me getting a micro sim before the 24th seem slim or should I say sim.

Please feel free to post any tips, links, suggestions or thought here.

For me personally a good pair of scissors seems to do the trick.:)

T Mobile are useless so I planned to cut my sim card. Had some T Mobile PAYG ones to try it out on. The issue I had was my contract t mobile simcard was 2 years old and had a large contact area compared to the newer simcards. So it wasn't as straight forward compared to the PAYG ones which have a smaller contact area.

But its been successfully cut and is working fine with my iphone 4 :)

Could you upload a picture of your sim card in the sim tray? i just cut mine and having problems. i think i need to cut more but would like a picture before i start cutting again.

Thanks

Cut my O2 sim down this morning when the iP4 arrived (8:58am)... easy as you like and here are some pics:

I cut it with sharp scissors and went a bit bigger at first then trimmed it down with a few trial fits to ensure it was spot on. Slotted it in the phone and all working fine :)

I accidentally cut mine a hair too small so if I wobble it in the SIM tray the card falls out, but I quickly stuck it in the phone and it is working fine. The contacts in the phone that touch the gold colored connectors on the sim apply pressure to the card and hold it in place.

i got a regular SIM in my Blackberry. its not a blackberry plan as was originally in a sony ericcson, so half of the BB features don't work anyway.

Its pay as you go only but I wanted an iphone4.

If I order a Sim Free iphone from apple, will it def work if I cut it down to microSIM size?

Also I'm a bit confused about the adapter.. if you have to cut a regular SIM down to make it small to fit in iphone then whats point of adapter making it longer again?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I never attempted to do this before.

once you cut you sim to to a microsim size it will work yes, I have a t mobile contract work SIM and it works fine.

People bought the microsim adaptors so they could cut their sims down prior to delivery of iphone4 and test in a 3GS which takes the normal size sim.

One think i've noticed is that if you ask for a replacement normal sized sim the gold contact area is much smaller, which makes cutting it very easy. My contract t mobile sim was like your o2 one, but when a replacement one came it was much smaller.
