I don't give a damn about the notch.

However, your hatred for the notch is the exact same hatred I have for the fugly ass camera boil that has been a pox on the back of the iPhone since the iPhone 6. This is the single biggest reason I have never upgraded from the 6s to anything new.

So I've been living your decision since the 6s - just over the camera bump, not the notch.

I don’t notice the bump as a case makes the entire back flush.
A case doesn’t change the notch however.

But this is coming from a guy who is holding out for a notchless/bumpless iPhone while limping along with a second hand SE.

I’m a little confused about the “I haven’t upgraded in N years and won’t until Apple [does a thing they’re not likely to do]”. I understand there’s a few people that are bothered enough by things like the camera lens, or the extra screen ‘ears’ on the X/etc, but eventually, the disadvantages of dealing with an antiquated phone are quickly going to far outweigh the ‘cons’ of getting a phone with a physical feature the owner doesn’t think they’re a fan of. In other words, they feel they’re saving themselves from sub-optimal experience, but they’re just pushing themselves into a true sub-optimal experience as their screen, battery, CPU/GPU, camera, etc all become relics.

Notch doesn't bother me one bit. In fact, I like how they implemented it with the status bar stuff up there in the ears.

Im not getting an iPhone ever so Apple can put as big a notch as they like on their phone :D Well I should not say never, if they add some basic customisation and stop locking out third party options I might reconsider but I don't see that ever happening.

Did you come here straight out of your DeLorean?

I swear I heard stuff like this - exactly this - back in 2008-2009. In the olden days of Cydia and whatnot.

If 10 years and iPhones 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 6, 6S, 7, 8, X, XS and XR haven’t yet convinced you then I guess nothing will

It's definitely more symmetrical than having a hole on the one side, like the Samsung Galaxy. We have a notch for the reasons you mentioned but I don't see it dying in Apple phones, not at least for the next 2-3 years.

at least we have equally sized bezels, unlike the rest of the android phones

The people who don't like the notch are much fewer than those who don't mind it, that's what Apple cares about.

Completely agree, plus there is always a chin or bezel on the bottom which is completely asymmetrical. Not to mention the glare and false touches from the curved display.

I prefer the notch with the displays on both sides and no chin to an android phone with no notch a chin or bottom bezel and a punch/pill hole obstructing corner.

Even Samsung put a notch over a hole on the new galaxy fold. A huge notch.

Not even going to bring up Face ID.

To me the notch is advertising for apple. Someone sees your screen with a notch, they'll know it is an iPhone.

The notch is like an apple tattoo on your forehead. You don't notice it but others looking at you will.

The iPhone isn’t the only phone with a notch. LG, Motorola , google all have notched models.

Or even worse, android.

I don’t get why Apple can’t make an iPhone version of the iPad Pro? Is it that difficult?

I doubt it’s difficult, it’ll just make the iPhone a lot bigger as it would need thick bezels all the way around.

The iPad Pro has bezels that would be really huge on a phone. Easy to fit camera and sensors in them. They don’t appear so huge on the iPP because of its size, but they’re about 3-4 times the size of the current bezels on the XS Max.

To be honest I didn’t like the notch as well but I don’t really notice it anymore and I’m glad that the notch didn’t stop me from buying my xs max.

I noticed many local tech companies promoting their new mobile apps or likewise want to do so without paying licensing fees, hence they never use Apple-products in their marketing efforts (but rather a general template).

They could advertise their mobile apps on any, absolutely any rectangular object with a screen, but they always used a symbolic Touch ID ring in their templates a few years back. Now, fast forward to 2019, and every company is using a symbolic Face ID notch.

From a design perspective, we can all agree that the notch is a bit of an eye-sore. It certainly doesn't add value. From a marketing perspective however, it was an absolute genius move by Apple!

The notch is the instant giveaway that you're using Apple's most premium product. Like it or not, but it's the status symbol that everyone wants to be associated with - whether you're a business, or consumer, it shows that you're "Current" and part of the latest and greatest.

Honestly, I think Apple could make it smaller with the iPhone 11, but I don't think they will. I'm quite confident that the notch is here to stay.

Personally, I'm indifferent. It doesn't get in the way of my usage.

The notch is ugly but I think it’s here for a while yet. Apple aren’t ones for changing the front aesthetics of their phones too often. It won’t put me off buying my next iPhone though despite realising their are better looking smartphones out there. For me it’s mostly about iOS.

Face ID adds a lot of value.
And from a design perspective allows you to have more screen, edge to edge/corner to corner.

I would take a notch and no chin over a hole in the display + a chin. Especially when the hole is off center.

I dislike the notch... but only because it means I can't see how much percentage my battery has left. As for the notch as an aesthetic issue? Doesn't bother me one bit.

I'm not too fond of Face ID though. Touch ID was better for me. It's possible that Touch ID is going to be gone for good eventually. It's not the outcome I'd have wished for, but you know what? I'll live.

Wasn’t a fan of the design when I had my 7 and looked at the X in passing. Folk on here said, “You don’t even notice it”. They were right. Also, it’s been funny watching certain Android device manufacturers include a notch just to copy the design of the X series, despite the only thing they’re housing in there being the front facing camera.

At least Apple has a reason for the notch; Face ID.

Of all the complains about the 10 series, the notch has been the one that I have understood the least. I almost never notice it on the Max.

I'm holding onto my 8+ until its gone. The notch was the biggest esthetic design failure in Apples history.
For me, one of their biggest design failures, along with the butterfly keyboard.

Bless the folks that can unsee the notch. I remain so distracted by it, there is no way I can see myself buying anything but 8/8+ phones until Apple gets rid of the notch.

Face ID sucks. I still have to fiddle with passwords and the delay is annoying.
