I wasn't confusing anything, just saying something about myself in a VERY general way as a backdrop to my (positive) story, not as an issue for discussion. This thread is about the OP's excitement about his enlistment, not a place for me to share my personal opinions.

What's interesting/funny/sad is that very rarely do you hear negative stories about an individual member of the military, but many people seem to have a less-than-stellar opinion of the military as a whole. Similar to asking people about Congress--most people despise Congress as a whole, but think their representative and senators are just wonderful.

It's the same with teachers... the closer to home you get, the better everyone is.
