I've had my 1G ipod touch for about a year now. I got it from the store as a previously purchased and returned item so I got the 16gb for the price of an 8gb. Some light scratches on the silver backing were there when I purchased it, but I've always kept a clear screen guard on the front, and kept it in a leather magnetic flap holding case. Dropped a few times, never anything bad happened. (knock on wood!) Just get a case that protects front and back and you should be fine.

over the weekend i dropped mine for the first time (on a hard object). i ony have a bodyguardz back on it. it only fell < 1foot onto a table. it was fine.

I just have a thin rubber case of my, not covering the screen, and it has lasted me a year or more. It has survived numerous things, including being shot into a wall at 12 KM (treadmill accident). Aside from a small dent on the back from when i didn't have the case and dropped it on rocks, it is in 100% condition. So I'd say they are pretty sturdy, but do get a rubber case to avoid scratches and dents.

If you don't want to drop it but also don't want a bulky case on your iPod, get a BSE (Best Skins Ever) skin for it. It has a little bit of a tacky feel and gives you a really good grip on the iPod's back!

Plus if you happen to drop it or leave it in your pocket with keys or something, it won't scratch.

You expect them to do their homework on this kind of stuff or are these products for nerds who never leave their basements or make any sudden movements

I would have bought a crappy mp3 player but i thought i wanted something decent and i was SHOCKED when it broke from me putting it on my table.

They have R&D labs for this kind stuff where was the testing this should not have happened so easily

Are you for real? Man up.

I can't believe you are blaming an inanimate object for your carelessness, and no dropping/throwing something down 1 ft. onto a table is not "putting it on my table".

I can't believe you would toss a $300 piece of electronics around like that, especially one where the whole front is made of glass.

As you can read plenty of people have had real accidents and dropped their iPods in more stressful situations than you describe and still don't have any problems. I guess we'll just call that karma.

I think the general rule here is, take care of your friggin' electronic devices! If it's expensive, then treat it like it is. I work at an Apple reseller in BC, and we get tons of people coming in with cracked iPhones and iPods, and I gotta say I have no sympathy for them. If you wanna treat your stuff like that, fine, but then don't whine when it breaks 'cause of your abuse.

My 5G iPod has been dropped well over a hundred times, a lot of times on hard floors and cement and such, and is working perfectly. I drop my iPod touch every once in a while, and noticed no problems with it. I'm sure I'm just lucky, and it'll bite me in the ass eventually, but I'm very clumsy.

Bad dream.....

I just woke up, I had a bad dream where some guy was chasing me with a knife so I took the knife out of his hands and throw it as far as I could, the next thing I know is I heard a strong noise and woke up, I realized that my iPhone 3gs was in my hand so that was the thing that was flying directly to the floor, I have a case and there is no visible damage, anyway I think I will set the alarm at 2:00 am ..just in case I forget to leave it in a proper place before falling asleep.

I've dropped mine on accident a few times, it still works and the glass hasn't broken yet. I do try not to drop it but hey, it happens sometimes.

I didnt drop it, I "droped it" onto my table and that was maybe a distance of
1ft. they are $300 pieces of crap!!

I've dropped my iPod Touch *and* iPhone further than this and they've never cracked. I don't do this regularly of course - I've dropped each one only the one time.

Until now, that is.

I just tried dropped my iPod Touch - no protector - onto a standard IKEA desktop from a height of 2 ft. Repeatedly. Why? a) I'm a physicist, I like this sort of thing, and b) I don't use the iPod Touch anymore.

After 6 drops, one for each exposed "face" of the device (front, back and all 4 sides), the iPod is no worse for wear and works perfectly. I did not drop it on its corners though (chicken! ;)

You must have had a bad dream to revive a TheSpaz thread that had died. Shame. Shame. :)

As far as the thread goes, I treat my iPhone like a phone. It gets dropped. Big deal. As long as it works, I'm happy. I also don't give a cr$p about smudges or minute cracks that almost need a microscope to see them. It's not "my precious." If by chance I ever damage it, guess what? I'll buy a new one and sync to one of my computers (where I have backups on each). Do, I care about burning ~$300? Sure. Am I going to lose sleep and fret over it like some on here? No.

I probably dropped my iPod once a week or at least once a month, and i bought mine when it got released (October 2007) and it still works, they're not fragile at all, the screen has no scratches, the back a has some

Only dropped my itouch a couple of times. Once when I was trying to get it out and it slid out of my hands, hitting the ground with a bounce from my case. No dents, scratches, everything's all good. :D :apple: Just wish Apple would let me JAILbreak it. D:<

i put my ipod in an invisible shield and a switch easy neo touch case, i drop it all the time on concrete and hard tiled floor and it never gets hurt. its indestructible :D

I've owned two and dropped them several times. What they won't take is moisture. Lost the first one when it fell in to the toilet. Also, I exercise a lot and even though I put the thing in a baggie, sometimes the touch screen won't respond for awhile after a work out.

What happened with the toilet? Were you playing a game and you got all excited that you beat it and let go? Heh, just hope you didn't get your waste all over it. :) :D :apple:

on a really bad trip i got very angry and threw my itouch full speed at the pavement. spent the winter night outside. the next day i woke up, remembered i threw it and went to get it. upon picking it up i noticed some cosmetic damage on the metal sides but luckily my screen was fine and everything worked just fine. i got very lucky.
