on a really bad trip i got very angry and threw my itouch full speed at the pavement. spent the winter night outside. the next day i woke up, remembered i threw it and went to get it. upon picking it up i noticed some cosmetic damage on the metal sides but luckily my screen was fine and everything worked just fine. i got very lucky.

WOW! LOL! I would throw mine at the ground, but I baby my iPod Touch. It holds my whole library... and my pr0n. Haha, just kiddin'. Only have movies and youtube clips on there. :D :apple:

i wouldnt throw mine at the ground normally. but at that point in time i thought there was no use for any belongings including my wallet and cell phone which i also threw out haha.

but yeah these things arent too fragile. granted it only takes one time to break them if it hits right..or i should say wrong.

I've had my 1G iPod Touch for several years without a case. It was consistently in my front pocket while snowboarding in Colorado, its been dropped on concrete, carpet, hardwood, thrown around etc. and it still works just fine. The only blemish are scratches on the back metal casing. You have to be a moron to crack the screen or have butter fingers. There is a pressure point on the corner to where if you drop it just right the screen will shatter however if you take care of your things I wouldn't worry too much. Keep a case on it for peace of mind and call it a day.

I baby my electronics (especially those baring an apple logo) therefore I have both an Invisashield from Zagg as well as a Speck Hard Candy case on my iPod touch. It makes me feel pretty safe. I have dropped it a few times and didn't have a heart attack.

Moral of the story, just get some good protection for it, and you will feel much better taking it everywhere.

ipod dropped and broken 18 hrs. after purchase

I was not warned about the fragility of the ipod touch. I would have purchased a case if I had known that it is like carrying an egg. Very disappointing that it is not more durable and that it is not covered by warranty.

I've had dreams of dropping my iPod touch and smashing the screen. Since it's made out of glass, don't you think it's a big too fragile for a hand held device? I mean, one drop and it's gonna be pretty much damaged for good and the parts are almost as expensive as the device. Do people get insurance on these? If you drop it, it's not covered by warranty. The other iPods are nearly indestructible... I've dropped my 5G before and it still works as good as new.

I am so scared that I will drop it and be very angry at Apple for making such a fragile product.

Seriously

It's made of metal and glass of course if it's dropped it can easily break.. if your worried about it then wrap it in bubble wrap or keep on the shelf, or better yet BUY A CASE!

Buy a good case...worth the investment

My son saved and saved to buy an IPod Touch. He was so proud and thrilled with all the new features. Less than two hours at home tonight, it slipped out of his hand and hit the tile floor in our bathroom. Shattered the corner glass and sent cracks throughout the screen. IF I'd known how extremely fragile the glass is I would have purchased a case for his before heading home.

This isn't our first Apple product or IPod for that matter....own several earlier generations...Apple has gotten plenty of our money from multiple items. HUGE fans of the company and their products but our experience tonight with this product....well at this point I'm so disgusted at the fragile nature of the product, appalled that Apple would create a handheld device that fragile. They know the thing is fragile and should provide an appropriate case with the item. Nothing fancy, straight forward protection.

I'm heartsick for my son. You know if Applecare doesn't even cover such damage they are fully aware of the fragile nature. I'll think long and hard before purchasing another of these...

Buy a good case to protect your investment....and good luck!

Well, not sure if you knew this or not, but this thread is 4 years old.

ANYWAYS; I dropped my iPod in the locker room after Swim Team Practice yesterday. It fell from the top locker. (About five feet)

I have the VERY THIN new 4G. It landed on hard tile flooring on it's back. I was freaking out, I've only had this thing since Christmas!!

I picked it up and looked at it. What I thought was a series of cracks was a handprint, what I thought was a scratch was a piece of dust.

I was so RELIEVED. Everything works fine, and I had a case on it.

This is my case, it works REALLY WELL.
