I've dropped my iPT from pocket height onto both concrete and hardwood floors at least five times, and twice while running. No case. As a result, the wifi antenna isn't sitting *exactly* flush with the metal anymore. It's not a fragile device at all. If the screen weren't made of glass, you'd be complaining about how scratched up it was, and how that was the worst mistake you ever made.

Amen.

Man, a lot of you fellas really have some crazy stuff happen to your iPods. lol I hope it doesn't get to the case of me dropping my new iPod Touch, but just in case we went out to get a case for it (the Griffin Elan Form one) for it, and it seems to fit perfectly, it doesn't even move when encased within it, which all helps with feeling more secure with the iPod and its build. It still hasn't really left the house though, still don't want it to get messed up like my last iPod did (a 5G 30 GB pre-Classic one), although it still works fine. lol

I dropped mine onto asphalt from shoulder height. Heart stopped as it thudded and skidded, but the only damage is a very small dent on the chrome back (<0.5mm) and some indents on the black bezel. Still works 100%, no scratches on the screen.

As luck would have it my invisible shield arrived the very next day.

My girlfriend and I had a fight and she grabbed my iPod touch (32 GB) and flung it across the room as hard as she could and it hit the wall, then obviously the floor. I had it on my Belkin leather folio and there is not one single scratch on it and it still works perfectly. This was about a month ago. My heart did stop for a second as I saw it fly across the room though. So I would say they're not that fragile. That's not to say I would do that to my iPod on purpose.

I'd have my foot so far up her ass...

You expect a little durability

You still dropped it whether it was from 1ft or 10ft.

Why on earth would you want to throw around a piece of technology which you just paid $300 for?

You treat something like crap then blame the manufacturer. Unbelievable.

You expect them to do their homework on this kind of stuff or are these products for nerds who never leave their basements or make any sudden movements

I would have bought a crappy mp3 player but i thought i wanted something decent and i was SHOCKED when it broke from me putting it on my table.

They have R&D labs for this kind stuff where was the testing this should not have happened so easily

I've dropped my touch down a concrete staircase (fell about 4 fee from my pocket, and bounced down the concrete) and it has some scratches around the rim, and tiny ones on the screen, but it fared quite quite well. No cracking.

...when it broke from me putting it on my table....

That's not what you said in your earlier post

I didnt drop it, I "droped it" onto my table and that was maybe a distance of
1ft. they are $300 pieces of crap!!

From the dictionary

drop |drɒp|
verb ( dropped , dropping ) [ trans. ]
let or make (something) fall vertically

put |pʊt|
verb ( putting ; past put ) [ trans. ]
move to or place in a particular position

There is a difference.

There is a difference.

Seriously put your dictonary away get a life.

this should with stand a 4ft fall at least... putting it or dropping it on the table should not have boken my screen plain and simple

$200 you can get a new one

My son dropped his iPod Touch (16GB) which cracked the screen big time. The Apple store replaced it with a new one. Replacement cost for the was $200. He also looked into having the screen replaced but the cost for that was $239....

I think it clearly does, under most circumstances.

I'm pretty sure the glass they use is a lot more resilient than plastic, which scratches easy. Also, if you're mad at Apple for making "such a fragile product" then why did you buy it? Vote with your dollars for a sturdier MP3 player instead of whining about it.

ipod touch

I dropped my ipod touch on a hard floor, the screen went white so i reset it and now it does not turn on at all. Is there a way to fix it or is it gone.

i wouldn't be too hasty about judging on this one. it's a small object which sometimes has an umbilical or two. i'm super-careful with mine, and have had one near miss, because of a headphone-cable snag. and once on the train it juuust missed the opening of my interior coat pocket when i was tucking it through the access hole in the lining. happily, i was seated at the time. ipod's fine, but.

designing something to be fragile, and then adding the feature of its being like a wet bar of soap to handle, is a little bit -- well, evil-ish. remember that 'user-interface design'-thingy that apple's so famous for, and brilliant at?

makes me almost think the case design elements of 'breakable AND slippery' weren't no accident...

so i'll get a case for mine, and then knit it a cozy to keep it warm. i adore the thing. and my dell axim wouldn't have survived the train-drop, so i'm not complaining. just sayin' it can happen to anyone -- even the not-usually-klutzy -- and my heart breaks for anyone whose ipod touch or iphone has come out the loser in the battle against gravity.

ive dropped mine a few times even tho im usually very careful.

no scratches.

Its really the luck of the draw on how it lands tho.

And seriously, if you buy something made of glass, drop it, and somehow blame the device....whats that say about you?

Maybe you are just unlucky. I've gone trough 2 Nintendo DS' ( I know, it's not an iPod) and they broke by just picking it up and moving the hinge. Sometimes you just get unlucky. All you can do is call customer service and hope they replace it. Which is something apple rarely does for cracked screens.
