… maybe the lit up apple logo on MacBooks will make a return ?

personally, I can't get any work done without closing the lid every minute to reminiscence about a lit up logo - it used to bring so much 'joy and delight to even the simplest of interactions'.

hopefully it will come back as a dancing-flashing emoji in a liquid glass shell, so I can stare at it through my OLED touch screen display as it floats about and merges seamlessly with my 3D Vaseline wallpaper and whichever app I have open, while playing the fanfare sound effect (on by default).

I haven't installed Tahoe on either of my Macs yet. I was going to wait until at least a .1 update anyway. I have iOS 26 on my iPhone and iPad and honest I think they could take the glass much further. But it is early days for a new design language and some of my installed apps still need to catch up.

From what I have seen with macOS 26 I do agree that these visual inconsistencies are not acceptable from a company who literally put a Steve Jobs quote about design in front of their iPhone presentation the other week. Software quality has been noticeably dropping in macOS for a while now. Apple is not Microsoft. They design the OS and know what hardware it is going to be running on so this degree of bugs and visual inconsistencies are ridiculous.

macOS should not be in a position where you can look at GNOME or KDE Plasma and, even with GTk4 vs Libadwaita on the GNOME side and QT5 to QT6 on the Plasma side, say that they are more consistent. GNOME right now has one of the cleanest GUIs I've used.

Really well put.

They also normally release macOS updates in October so I’m not sure why they forced this out the door early this year, when it clearly needs more work.

I know theres no going back (bummer) but this aesthetic looks cheap to me. Like clear plastic you find in some of those shops that carry decorative chintzy things that end up in a drawer. Was flat design really that outdated and terrible? I feel like we were given a solution to a problem no one had.
/rant over.

There's no need to apologise. I don't think anyone holds you responsible for any perceived deficiencies within iOS 26.

Sort of nukes the whole “retina” thing when they’ve gone and made stuff blurry … on purpose?
I'm glad to see others complaining about the blurry icons. I thought I must be the only one. They looked razor-sharp before and now inexplicably blurry, as though I need to fix a preference or something. How did this ship?!

This is quite simply my most hated part about the upgrade, even more than liquid ass. All the icons look like they’ve been covered with a poor quality matte screen protector over them. Before they were razor sharp and beautiful, they now look tacky, grainy and blurry. I don’t understand how this is even possible from Apple. It’s unbelievable.

every version of every apple OS (like all OSes) is a work-in-progress; hence, the endless procession of betas, and OS updates. things that are genuinely issues need to be sorted out, and hopefully will be.

in the meantime, it's the GUI, not the functionality, or security of the OS. still, ppl get hysterical over pixels 🤷
You can’t get updates of these apps from the app store, you need to wait for apple to do an OS release.

The more I use it, the more I hate this new look. Rounded off corners. Everything looks kinda flat, muted, like Plastic instead of smooth glass. It's seems like it's designed for Kindergarten users. LOL.... At least it's running fast and smooth on my iMac M3.... thats a plus. The rest is of the UI look and horrible.

I remember there being threads like this when iOS 7 came out lol. You'll never please everyone, but UI refreshes will always have a vocal minority upset about it.

It is what it is. You can use it, stick to an older version, or vote with your wallet and buy another product you like more.

I was an iPhone user when iOS 7 came out. It was different for sure, especially visually, but it did not compromise on usability the same way. Not even close. iOS 26 is a mess.
You have a very selective memory. I remember the wailing and gnashing of teeth about all the myriad visual inconsistencies that flat design introduced, both within iOS and the apps designed for it, scrambling around trying to identify the "back" button that no app seemed to agree on and also the bleaching of eyes with unfilled white, white, white everywhere. A hot mess would have been a vast improvement on what iOS7 was seen to serve up.

This for sure need more work. Tried the clear icons and my phone is not smooth and also warmer than normal.

Hard truth is that after world had lost Steve Apple has slowly started to turn into Microsoft. Same level of inconsistencies all around that has become more apparent after their "AI slop" moment ("Apple Intelligence slop") when they have made flashy ads and then didn't deliver anything, now this totally rushed update. Can't even compare it to iOS 7 because it was at least something new, but 26 is barely a skin pack on top of already obsolete minimalism.

Apple is steadily moving to their next "90s moment". But there won't be a new Steve Jobs to save them this time
Couldn’t agree more. It won’t be overnight but I predict in the next decade or two they may become irrelevant again, especially if they can’t compete in the AI race.
