there is no need to be this harsh. its a simple question. we dont need people with your attitude on this forum
take it somewhere else.

I thought he was appropriately harsh. The original poster stated that he knew it was discussed a thousand times yet it appears he hasn't read any of those discussions. Then he later replies to the "harsh" poster to get HIS facts straight when his post was completely factual (except the sarcastic part).

Seriously, the front-facing camera discussion needs to end (not flaming, just frustrated).

The rumors of a possible "extra sensor" has been confirmed to be nothing but an extra proximity sensor as someone has aforementioned.

It's not that I don't want it, I would love for the option to use video conferencing on the iPhone, but it's not gonna happen in this generation... let it go

I second that. Like I said, I started my own thread about it yesterday... We all knew that it wasn't happening... and we decided to put it to bed. Maybe iPhone 4G..

Att isn't going to have that kinda bandwidth.. uh... for a while

Front facing cameras are stupid - we've had them on our 3G phones down here for about 7 or 8 years and they just serve no purpose. Nobody video chats - Telstra are currently running an ad campaign encouraging us to video-chat, they must make more money out of it.

I agree! People would use it once or twice and then never use it again. Who cares! We dont need it!

We'll know for sure when the first tear downs happen but why would apple include it and not tell us? I can't see it happening myself

We just need the right app. I would love an app that utilizes a front cam near the ear piece to detect my ear wax levels and notify me if I need to clean my ears ;)

Notify you.... screw that. It'll have tiny lasers that will automatically clean your ear hole out. Trim your sideburns too! :D

I have one word that in the thought process of design boggles my mind how this hasn't entered your head... BALANCE

Excuse me for being dumb but what are the advantages of a front facing camera? How do you take a picture of something in front of you whilst still seeing what you are taking a picture of? I understand a front facing camera might come in handy for iChat but thats it.

You're right.

But, there are many things in the iPhone that are single purpose. GPS, for example, can only be used to find your location.

Its not really that I'm dieing for a front facing camera or that its a deal breaker. I wouldn't even use the feature much. Its just that the more features the better.

Also, has anyone read the article about how much money Apple is making off these new phones? They could throw in a front facing camera and still make a good profit.

But why do you want a front facing camera? I really see no advantage in it unless I am being completely stupid and missing something obvious

You are.

Video Conferencing.

People like to see where their faces are positioned on-screen when in a video conferencing call.
With the camera currently situated on the back of the device, u'd either have to be very flexible as a person,
or this is not possible.

But, as long as the price doesn't increase, why not? Jobs has already said that the price WILL NOT increase.

Apple could cripple it's use to just iPhone iChat over WiFi. That would make sense, no bandwidth issue(or at least no more than with any WiFi device) but people can still use iCat when traveling without having to take their notebook.

That's not the issue. The bigger problem with this than the bandwidth is that there is NO front facing camera.

Can we please drop this?

hmmm looks like the front facing camera is the "Mac G5" Speculation of the iPhone world

Lets face it people...video conferencing on the go is not a viable or pleasant option.

Why do people still want a novelty feature on a phone?

Anytime you like you can walk away from the thread.

My point was that if Apple have not fitted the camera because of bandwidth issues, then there's an easy way to provide it with a useful function while taking the bandwidth issue into account, pleasing everybody to a point.
