About a week ago I purchased a Late 2015 iMac with the following specs...

    3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB DDR3 Ram
    AMD R9 M390 2048MB
    1 TB Fusion Drive

I loved the screen, but was honestly a little underwhelmed with the speed. I was not surprised at all when I read that Apple had switched the SSD portion of the fusion drive to 24GB on the 1TB Fusion Drive models. After I had it all set up, I was only using about 73GB.

Long story short, I was able to purchase the following iMac this week for $1 less overall using a BB 10% coupon:

    3.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB DDR3 Ram
    AMD R9 M395 2048MB
    2 TB Fusion Drive

I restored the new 2TB model from my Time Machine backup of the 1TB iMac and have them set up right next to each other. The 2TB model immediately felt faster, but I figured it was all in my head so I decided to run a speed test.

    Here are the results:

    iMac 1TB:
    Write 353 MB/Sec
    Read 820 MB/Sec

    iMac 2TB:
    Write 665 MB/Sec
    Read 1687 MB/Sec

All that being said, if I was using more than 72 GB of space, i'm sure it would even out in time, but I was really surprised by the difference still.

Anyway, I thought this post might help anyone on the fence between the 1TB and 2TB models. I won't be returning it until the morning, so if you guys want me to run any other tests let me know.

Nice comparison, but a I just wanted to point out the drive in the 2TB fusion drive is a 7200 RPM (at least in the 27" model), I'm not sure about the 1TB fusion drive so that would be one factor to explain the differences.

The spinning HD in both models is a 7200 RPM drive. The only difference other than size is in the SSD portion of the fusion drive.

Ok, thanks for the clarification, I knew the 2TB drive was a faster drive, I wasn't sure about the 1TB.
