If you have the time to travel, then make the trip to Minneapolis. I would recommend calling the store to see if they have some 20" iMac's in stock. They might even put one on hold for you, just be sure to ask nicely. Since you are a switcher, that will give you an opportunity to ask questions in person. Congratulations on your decision.
Thanks wdlove! Instead of travelling to Minneapolis in a blinding snowstorm, I ordered it via phone from Apple. Actually, I played with the iMac in Atlanta a couple of months ago, so it was a no-brainer to buy it.
Phone salesman was very helpful! Only thing extra I bought was dot mac. I wanted it anyhow.
I'm glad to be a switcher!

I don't blame you at all for not traveling in a blinding storm. You would have been carrying very precious cargo. I know that your will be pleased. What is the estimated time of delivery?

----------KN High Tech Logistics------------

ETD is on or before 12/22. When I go to the order status page, that's all it sez.
I sure miss living in Arlington, MA....Mac Expo, Apple stores and the like. You should be getting the 2-3 feet of snow we had last night. Ironwood, MI is about 1100 miles due west of you.
Good luck and thanks.

nearly 3 months from initial order, to it turning up today! Sitting on my desk now, as i speak ...er write.

Now to get it home and up and running!

Chin up, according to our supplier (Jigsaw UK) there seem to be plenty coming in now, so maybe production has ramped up, and yours will be with you soon. Hope it does,

Good luck!

PS Are you really a Klingon????

So far all we are getting is rain. It has been warmer than normal so far this month. It just turned cold yesterday. Now the temperature today is 26 at 12n. There is a possibility of a storm on the way.

It's really very .. very .. GOOD!

I've had my new iMac G5 for a week now and I'm fortunate to say I'm very, very happy. Zero problems to report - its a wonderful machine. The move-up from an iBook G3 600 MHz is amazing. Looks like I skipped the G4 generation. For those of you who find these machines under the Christmas tree - I'm sure you'll be very happy people. A thought goes to those who've had problem ... hang in there because a working machine is wonderful.

Mine was ordered October 25 for delivery to Austria, Europe
Initial est. ship date November 15
New est. ship date November 22
Actually shipped on November 19
Arrived in Europe November 26
Then frustratingly it was held in the logistics centre - after a number of phone calls to Apple it was released for delivery to Austria on December 13
Arrived December 14

Bluetooth and Airport Extreme work great (I also have airport express, wireless printer good and iTunes in the kitchen is nice, it's a shame the KQED radio station does not work, but Virgin (UK radio) does!)
No dead pixels
Only time I noticed a fan noise increase was while doing some RAW image work in Canon EOS Viewer Utility and while perfprming a hardware check. Infact my LaCie Firewire external 250GB drive is louder.

Have a wonderful festive season while looking forward to Apples new product releases next year!

Lovely set up mate, i have had my 20"er for a few weeks now and i still adore it.
Like yours mine has very few wires and it is just so nice to have a wirefree desk.
The only problems i had was:
No wireless reception - my fault as i didn't insert the aerial cable into the card all the way
A slight buzz near the bottom left corner, can only hear when you are right up close
And that is it, the screen is superb and imo it is the best desktop computer made to date, the only competition they have are the Sony vaio all-in-ones that are:
1)ugly next to the imac
2)chunky at over 4 inches
3)expensive, 2 grand for the 20" version!
4) of course has the spyware OS pre-installed

That's an awesome looking setup that you have vjfoxy. Very nice pictures. What a great thing to have arrive just in time for Christmas.

Wow, i never switched, was a Mac dude since a kid

have a new 17eriMac and a new iBook g4.

Love me Macs, they are family

Yay! Whoopee!

Been a Windows user since 1990. Last Mac was a 512. I got my new iMac G5 20 inch delivered yesterday. Took just 11 days from order to receipt. I have to wait til tomorrow to set it up cuz I have the day off. I'm psyched! Got to set up my wife's hand-me-down Dell and transfer files to Mr. iMac, hook up Mac and Dell to router, set up .mac, download Panther update, load new software and I'll be on a roll! Wish me luck. :)

It sounds as though you are going to be a very busy young man over the holidays. Good luck with setting up your Dell & Mac. Welcome back to the Mac side. ;)

I'm sure that the upcoming MWSF will create a lot more long threads. Just glad that the majority have now received their new iMac G5's.

Fault in iMac G5 casing?

I ordered an G5 iMac (20") as soon as they were announced at the end of August 2004. My computer was delivered on October 4th.

This evening (January 4th) I have noticed numerous hairline cracks beneath the display, seemingly in the white plastic which lies beneath the clear transparent plastic coating. At first sight they look like fine scratches on the outside of the computer case, but close inspection shows that they are not. It is necessary to shine a strong light at the side of the computer to see these cracks -- but they are quite obvious once you know they are present. They are only beneath the display, radiating from the corners of the screen and also running vertically from the lower edge of the screen.

The computer has not been subjected to high temperatures, stress, flexing, polishing or even any significant movement; since I received it, it has sat virtually unmoved on the same desk. I can only think that this might be a manufacturing or design fault (perhaps heat from the inner workings has caused the casing to crack).

Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

You should definitely call AppleCare. I hope that you will receive a quick resolution. It will be interesting to hear what caused the problem

Uh oh

While mining away in the Barrens (World of Warcraft) my 16 month old son didn't endear himself to daddy too much when he hit the power strip switch and shut off the machine.

After extracating him from under my desk and getting him set up in the other room I turned back on the power strip and now my iMac won't boot up!!

On the line with Apple at the moment. I must say their webchat thing is pretty cool and the guy that I worked with typed fast and wasn't too stupid about it and described what to do rather easily. Waiting in line for a product specialist now.

Bummer. I fired it up in target mode and copied off my photos, just don't have enough disk space on an internal drive to back up my iTunes. guess i'll be buying that copy of iPodRip if I have to save things from my fully sync'd iPod.
