Don’t set you hope high, it’s almost a certainty you’ll get disappointed.Every time there’s an iMac article I feel obligated to comment lmao.
I really hope the next model is a redesign.

That's always been Apple's target group...The sad situation is that when you ask a random person in the Apple store what’s an i7 processor, they don’t know. And that’s exactly the targeting group of Apple these days. Be honest, who on earth is buying an Apple computer with know how of technology these days?
Tim only hears stockholders. They demand more profits and less expense.Doesn't it make sense that as the technology aged, the retail price should have been decreasing? Where is the respect for the consumer?
Seriously, it's on Intel, not Apple.
To be honest, they were. But at least the OS or capabilities were better. Today it’s all stale and outdated. That's always been Apple's target group...
They don’t know what Mac Pro is even when they have it for display...The sad situation is that when you ask a random person in the Apple store what’s an i7 processor, they don’t know. The other’s don’t have the thermal issues either where the i7 MacMini isn’t able to reach a higher clockspeed as an i3. So why sell the option...This again?
I know Intel has had their share of problems. I'm not gonna deny that.
BUT... it's funny how the blame always gets shifted to Intel whenever Apple doesn't update a computer for 600 days... or maybe a few YEARS... *cough* Mac Pro, Macbook Air...
Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and countless others seem to have no problems releasing timely updates.
In other words... everyone is using Intel processors... but only Apple has huge gaps between releases.
So... are we still blaming Intel here?![]()
Seriously, it's on Intel, not Apple.
They can’t handle the heat of faster processors anyway. Tried converting a movie? The fans will go grazy and when looking at the processor, they only use 50% of what they should be capable of.Why?
Genuinely curious why you believe this?
I'm not sure the premise of this article is all that meaningful. yes it's been 602 days. But the components in the current iMac's are only 1 gen behind.
is it behind... YES, and Apple could do better here to keep the internals at least up to date.
in reality though for good competition, they should be keeping up and doing yearly spec bumps, if not in CPU, in other areas, like slightly larger storage or RAM options.
There's really no technical reason that the iMac's aren't on the 8xxx series CPUs now though.
Don’t set you hope high, it’s almost a certainty you’ll get disappointed.
I hope that before this decade is out, we can have an iMac lineup that is all SSD

I hate to say it but if it’s an investment for you, you could better start looking elsewhere. If you’re using creative cloud, most of the programs are run better under Windows anyways.Ugh. Mine is from 2010 and it works great, but I could use some new hardware. And I feel like we’re on the verge of a redesign. If it doesn’t happen this year then I might just pull the trigger.
You are not the only one that though there would have been an iMac update in early part of 2018.I worried about it being updated soon in early 2018 but I bought it anyway. It's more than a year old now but it's still the latest model .
Please... mail your story to tcook@apple.com. I’ve done it several times so my mail should already been blocked by him.My mid 2011 iMac died last week. The GPU of course. This would be the sixth time in twelve months I pulled her apart and baked the GPU to remelt its solder. Put her back together again, but nope, she’s dead, Jim.
Looked For the Zillionth time at the current iMac line up. No updates. Ah well might as well price it out anyway. AUD$950 for 32 GB of RAM! At least I don’t have to pay the Apple Tax and can install my own. Looked at processor options: what’s this? Seventh gen CPUs at current gen prices?
Disgusting.
My son is specking out a windows PC today. A nice project for him to build it before uni starts. It will do.
I suspect even if Tim Cook finds time in his very busy political schedule to finally get around to approving a new version for release it will just be a spec bump to an already out of date processor, or a redesign to make it impossible to even upgrade the RAM, and drop useful ports.
I finally convinced my brother to move from a PC to a Mac and told him to wait until the next iMac comes out...well he has now been waiting for a year and a half!
Apple stopped being a computer company A LONG TIME AGO. Remember when that overrated salesman/neglectful father Steve Jobs dropped "Computer" from Apple Computer? He depreciated Final Cut, Aperture, iMovie, Pages. Tim Cook and Sir Jony Ive are merely fulfilling Steve Jobs's vision. But most people have long known that if you want a REAL computer to do REAL work, nothing beats a Windows PC. Having a device with the Apple logo no longer carries social currency. As I have long known being the smart cookie that I am, the iPod would usher in the death of Apple. One time, Apple sorta kinda maybe made good computer-like things. Now it's nothing more than Fisher-Price.
