I think the new G5 iMac design, whether it's something we've seen, or something none of us had any inkling about, is going to be as fresh and different as the G4 was when introduced by Apple (or maybe, leaked by Time Magazine Canada?) a few years ago. Despite its not being the most powerful computer in the lineup, it's still a flagship product for Apple. Each generation must have a certain something to it.

It will be interesting to see what Ives has done to try and top the G4 design. It will also be interesting to see how Schiller comes across at the Keynote. And... maybe Steve will make a guest appearance via the new iSight when the new version is introduced? I wouldn't be surprised.

The mysterious box... isn't so mysterious.

I used to have a Graphite Apple Studio Display -- the second revision of Apple's original LCD display. (The original revision was purplish and had S-video and ADB in a hidden panel on the back of the monitor, whereas the rev B was translucent graphite and had only a pair of USB ports on the back, instead.)

My particular display came with the stand, and came in a box that looked exactly like the one pictured next to the 'blue box' and crate. (If I hadn't given it away to my sister when I upgraded to a 20" Studio Display, I'd take a picture of the box for you.

Ce n'est pas une iMac. Cased closed.

Thank you merci for the clarification. Time to move on, I guess.

Just my oppion, but don't you think the design is somewhat conventional? Almost PC like (similar to the Sony Viao).

I mean something that looks like a regular Apple 20" screen - presumably with computer components in the enclosure - it just seems too easy for an Ives/Jobs era Apple product. It's hardly pushing bounderies in the same way the previous iMac's did, is it?

I'm hoping Apple suprise us again and that they haven't taken such an obvious design solution with the new iMac.

Imac VS. Airport Extreme

If the Imac Gets updated whats the chance of an airport extreme update with it. The airport express and extreme are like the same thing

These could be real it looks like they were taken with a very poorly digtal camera because the rest of the box looks like the screen.. so this could be real.

Seriously, people need to read through the topic before posting. None of the images are the new iMac.

Won't be too long before 'Photoshop experts" come along to say why the images are fake... ...just like the images of the G5 specs, G4 Towers, Tiger screenshosts et al were fake... NOT.

All probabilities.. i think these are real. After the GNAA Tiger screenshots.. anything can happen!

Amen!! Im actually not very religous. also, as said before, it may not be the final packaging... just sending it off to paris... not too high on the design, but we will see if it is true or not in a few days

this is just like when the new ipods came out, u guys were like "wahh that click wheel is ugly" then when they actually came out u guys were all "puttin' that 3g up on ebay :p " so in the end, if this is real, we would all probably like "ooo time for a g5 imac" lol
man, i still think the 4g looks like crap.

Don't know if any of you have visited the original thread but it was revealed to be a hoax. The original picture poster admitted to it being a joke.

Yeah, for real..I've seen tons of stories on this today. Obviously, a lot of these journalists aren't very good.

Exactly what I'd picture (except I'd lean towards white). Simple and clean. If you want something more ornate, stay clear of Apple's portables too :) I like the G4 iMacs a lot too though.

Fake or not? Who knows--but how could a new product come without the fun of last-minute photo debates? (Complete with the usual blowing up of JPEG artifacts and calling them "proof" of doctoring :D )

So thanks to the source, real or not :)

You have to read through 10 pages before posting? I see no such rule :)

Didn't see it on the original thread but good it's a hoax. Knowing that everybody thought those Tiger screens were a hoax and came out to be true is scary sometimes, but seeing that whoever posted the pics admitted to it being fake is a good way of knowing for sure it's fake. good news to hear :)

Hm, can't wait for the real iMac pictures come out. I hope that Apple has really innovated this time–I think that the iMac G4 was such a great step, however, I don't like what they did to the iPod at all for 4G. I looked at one the other day, and I have to say that it doesn't have Apple class. However, I love the new features...

I actually kinda hope that Apple does a pyramid shaped design. I made some drawings in February of concept iMac G5's, and now I wish that I could post them. Maybe if someone wants to draw an iMac G5 with a pyramid bottom, but the same neck used in the G4, but with ports in the back side, and a SuperDrive in the front (angled). Maybe I should do some concept PhotoShopping...

Thats why I wish this forum would move to a 'slashdot' style where important posts could be modded up and redundant ones stay down so you don't have to read every friggin post. I don't have that kind of time so I end up just ignoring most of the topics.

Well, although those orginal pics are supposedly fake, I think a design like that would probably be the best bet for Apple. Make it more accesible to the the millions of PC users just not ready for an exciting looking product.

I found one more pic of the new iMac on the guy's .mac web page. I don't know why this one isn't floating around yet. I think it is real, and it does show the guys hand in the pic so you can see how large the thing is. To big for just a monitor and the back of the monitor seems to mean taht is where the rest of the computer is. Woo hoo!

With his unusual color clothing pictured, he can probably now be identified by security video on that date. I'm sure if this is a real photo, Apple knows who it is already if they've gotten access to the security videos.

Actually, you have a revision C of that monitor. After the purple version, there was a blueberry (rev B) version to match the PowerMac G3. I still have one of these displays, and it has the VGA, ADB, S-Video, Composite Video, RCA audio, and headphone jack - same as the rev A purple model - but it looks almost exactly like the rev C graphite model.

I use the display with my PowerBook G3 as a spare computer, and the second I saw that picture, I just thought, "So what? It's a 15 inch studio display box. Duh." I guess if you hadn't seen one before (yeah 1998 is sooo long ago) that you might guess it is a new iMac... or not.

"Apple class" and Closure

The new iPods do not have "Apple class"?! I beg to differ. These are the best-yet iPods with a simple but intuitive interface and an extended battery life. Personally I could not be happier with it (I use the 40 GB iPod).

I am glad to hear that the iMac-in-lift photos are fakes; finally I have closure.
;)
