this is just like when the new ipods came out, u guys were like "wahh that click wheel is ugly" then when they actually came out u guys were all "puttin' that 3g up on ebay :p " so in the end, if this is real, we would all probably like "ooo time for a g5 imac" lol

I agree. The speculation is fun. After the new iMac comes out there will be a lot praising the iMac.

But, is it a screen by Apple?

Yes it's an old screen by Apple. The blue/indigo coloured version of their original Apple 15inch LCD Flat Panel. See my earlier posts for pictures of the display, and of the box they shipped in. The evidence is pretty much concrete.

^^^neck angle looks different... and thats a common angle for "glamour shots" so this could be legit

Check this concepts from Mackompass.de, they are based on the rumors from TS and AI.

Box is real

If anything I believe that the box is real.

I was looking at my 12" powerbook box and the box in question is very close, just taller.. perhaps a 15" 17" box.

I checked the Logo placement on mine, and it is facing the same, slightly off center.

also the bottom foam appears the same. rounded on the outer edges, a support in the middle that is divided at the top.

Now the top foam does appear to have the standard Apple cutouts on top for grabbing hold of. In one photo you can see a circle cutout. Mine has that, above that is where all the cords are.

There appears to be in the middle, either a piece of the foam, which would be odd, or perhaps its the thin wrapper and its just stuffed in there. The very bright photo appears to have a wrapper across the top of the monitor, so that could be that.

The exact fit does seem to be one of the most troubling issues. When looking at the bottom foam the "device" generaly fits inside of those foam pillars, in this case it looks too large to fit.

My guess is that the box and stuffing are real, but the device is just a LCD tv.

I too would hope even with a simple pizza box design that Apple would make it more desireable that what we see here.

Fakes & Fuzzy photos = 2, iMac= 0

OK summing up, both possible images are now almost certainly officially dead meat - the mysterious fuzzy white box is almost conclusively an old mac LCD screen as shown by iFaulder and others, and JtheLemur posted just above an image from one of the elevator shots and a link to the confession of the faker. (I have tweaked JtheLemur's image here to make it bit clearer for those who don't have photoshop).

So where's the real iMac 'leaked' photos - c'mon super spys, get your phonecams clicking!

Just to remove all doubt...

Heres that old apple LCD from iFaulder put next to the fuzzy image at the same angle.

All the screen angles are the same, there is a fuzzy dark spot matching the dark area in the neck, and the fuzzy base has a darker patch matching the circle in the base. Pretty conclusive I think.

^^why is the neck angle different? any ideas?
I think it must be just jpg artifacts, it was a pretty lores image to start with. Everything else is too good a match to be a conincidence to me. Plus its seems to be the same old style box as shown by TMA.

I don't think it's that conclusive. The neck angle seems different. And besides - why would Apple (or anyone else for that matter) be dragging along an old display like that one, to an Expo conference that is supposed to showcase the current & upcoming, the shiny and new?

Anyway, we're all going to find out much more, soon enough... :)

Big old boxes are good for carrying leads and loose keyboards and stuff. Doesn't mean the actual LCD monitor is in there just cos it's on the box.

But yeah, as the guy from ipodfrance said, it's the stuff in the big wooden boxes we should be wondering about. :p

Good point. And am I the only one who notices the rounded base? It seems to angle downwards, as if the neck is on a mound. And, although I take back my earlier comment about the box being huge, I still believe it's larger than my 17" iMac box. (If it were just a display, wouldn't the box be smaller?) My guess is that's the real deal.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. I agree its impossible to be sure from such a lores image. But I'm kinda hoping for something more radical somehow than a device which looks this much like an ordinary LCD they made back in the last century.

i had one of the first 15' Apple LCDs and i have to tell you that the box is quite tall. From what i remember about the box the LCD set at half its hight (can move up and down on its base) and then had a small box on top the LCD for the power brick, CD, book, and small stand.

Well the guy who released the pics admitted they are fake. Go check out the appleinsider forum topic on it, or just look at the blue channel of the picture in photoshop (it says 'fake, fake, fake')

Edit...woops guess I should read back a page and see that someone posted that
