My concern is the price, the previous iMac Pro started at $5000. I hope they don't take a similar path with this machine and force us to spend that much just to get an iMac with a 27" screen.

but I would definitely be disappointed if it has the same chips as their laptops.

It really depends on how "Pro" this iMac is gonna be.....

With M1Pro it would(should) compare to a lower tier Intel 27" iMac.
With M1Max we are in in upper silver Intel iMac land.
With the rumoured M1DoubleMax it would compare to the last iMacPro
The rumoured M1QuadrupelMax will be exclusive for the MacPro (MacProMini, M-Cube......).

Yes he did.

I would have liked 30-32" personally, but it isn't a deal breaker. 27" is still plenty big and I suspect this model will have a smaller chin and thinner bezels compared to the current 27" iMac, which will be great.

I'm just really concerned about that starting price. Right now it starts at $1,800 and I see this machine starting at $2,200-$2,500. $2,000 would be fine.
Oh OK. Yet, it is still just a rumor. It makes sense that Apple comes with a larger display as 27-inch would be a little bit too close to 24-inch of the new iMacs.

27” iMac pro?? I’m ready to spend my money in the Mac mini Pro and another screen of my choose.

I’m done with 27” 16:9. There is no space for tools and 4K/6K footage
who says it is 27" and not 30 or 32" ?
he doesn’t say the size of screen, the leaker believes it will have a similar design to the 24-inch iMac and the Pro Display XDR.

No, no it's not.

Lots of photographers can do perfectly fine work with 16GB & 512GB storage.
I strongly disagree. While 16gb of ram is fine for most photographers, 512gb of SSD is simply not enough workable space. I'm a full time professional photographer and even 2TB of SSD space is not enough. 4TB or 8TB is a solid amount of workable space for multiple weddings, events and various photo shoots, not to mention all the 1:1 previews Lightroom generates. 512gb would be an incredible struggle.

that imac pro had Intel expensive xeon and started with 1T SSD
So this one if it starts with M1 pro and 512 ssd, probably $2499 will be the starting price

for laptops , internal storage are more important than like it is on an imac...
So for the imac 512 for most are enough because professional dont work only with the internal storage...or almost not at all. Always buy a fast reliable external ssd, or even multiple external storage...internal SSD are crap for a desktop

I was initially going to wait for this iMac but my 24" M1 handles my usage (Logic, Final Cut) way better than my previous intel MacBook Pro & 27" iMac. So I doubt I'll be upgrading.

What do you guys think this will look like based on what they said? I'm expecting the same as the 24" but with black bezels, in silver & space grey.

I'm very disappointed by this rumor and hope it's not true. The new iMac Pro should really, really offer 27 and 32 inch sizes. Apple, why in the hell are you so opposed to anything above 27 inches? I don't even count the 32 inch XDR display because it's widely expensive and out of reach for most consumers.

"As it will use the M1 Pro and Max chips, Apple considers it a "Pro" device and is calling it the iMac Pro internally, according to Dylandkt"

"Dylandkt says that the iMac will have a starting price at or over $2,000, and it will be launching in the first half of 2022."

Of course it will. The previous iMac Pro started at $4,999.

The big question remains as to how the could possibly sell such a massive panel with the same properties like the MacBook Pro, basically rendering the XDR Display vaaaaaastly overpriced.

I was hoping for a 32" version with the 6K monitor. I hope they give it as an option, then I will upgrade the current development machine: iMac27 Intel Core i9 9900 which is always turning on the fans.

Yeah thought both iMacs were going to increase in size. 21.5 to 24, 27 to 30/32. Weird seeing these rumours around a 27”.

Apple is not challenged at raising prices to solve such difficult problems. ???

Which new Apple Silicon Macs- no longer having to cover the cost of the Intel chip premium- have DROPPED in relative price? I'm sure Apple can easily handle that problem.

If I were Apple I would rebrand the larger iMac as iMac Pro and sell it as two size variations. The first one could be the classic 27” and the second one maybe 30” or 32”. Regardless of the size, both would get the same M1 Pro/Max chip configurations as current MacBook Pros. This would allow Apple to repurpose the same chip design and lower the costs. Plus now Apple also doesn’t need to go back to the old iMac Pro 5k price point which is simply way too steep for most consumers.

If you consider that the current Macbook range consists of Macbook Air for regular users, then two size variations for Pro users (14" and 16"), it would make a lot of sense if Apple were to do the same for the iMac range. Offer regular users 24" iMac option and then two iMac Pro variations for the pros. This way also those who wish to have a larger display than 27" can have it and everyone wins! And no more anyone needs to pay $5000 for an iMac.

Regarding the notch, I think the new iMac Pro will not have it since the display that large would look silly with super-thin bezels and a tiny black notch. I will happily take bezels that are about the same size as the notch itself on the new Macbook Pros on a screen as big as 27".

apple obsession with notches lol, won't stop at macbook and iPhone. imac will join the notch line-up next year ?

Waiting it out for an iMac refresh at this point, since we’re likely midway through the cycle. Don’t think I need a “pro” model though.

This sucks so bad for us that bought the 24". Promotion display, mini-led, XDR tech, bigger size and base model starting with 16gb/512!!! I mean, if the price rumor is true, and base model starts at 2k, that would be so much better value for money as that's what my 24" cost with all the upgrades and it doesn't have the screen benefits that the Pro model will have.

Since the iMac 24 has been released I've always been convinced this is how it will look like. Apple seems to want a really clear / clean Mac products line.
The new MacBook Pros confirmed to me the upcoming 27 will have the same colors too (silver and space grey with dark bezels).
Moreover the comparison of the MacBook Pros to the upcoming Macbook (Air) gives extra details.
No notch on the 24, so no notch on the 27.
I'm still hoping for more "darker" tones (gold, copper?) but unless they add another one to the MacBook Pro... this is how they should look like.

How long will they support intel iMacs and macbooks?

You would need to very clearly define "support." If you mean:
  • macOS upgrades, probably at least a few years after they stop selling the LAST intel Mac.
  • full (new) features, if that's not already over, it's coming fast.
Once Apple when full Intel back in the prior hardware transition, it was over for Power PC (full) support pretty quickly. Apple wants everyone to buy new Macs... not hang on to old ones that may very well still work really well.
