Fingers crossed this comes with an updated black keyboard and mouse ala Mac Pro version but with TouchID and no numpad then that would be a justifiable excuse as to why they discontinued the standard version.

At least they can never put a notch on my Mac mini ... can they!?

With the rumored plexiglass top, I hear that new Mac Mini will have a notch on all 4 sides... apparently to stir the "I love the notch" fans into mad buying frenzy. ;)

Sources say the Mac Mini Pro & Max will add 4 more notches to the BOTTOM for the worlds first 8-notch Mac. Notchgasms for all!!! ;)

I know this is a rumour and it's supposedly 'base spec' but 16gb Ram and 512gb storage is pathetic for a 'Pro' machine. Cue Apple's memory tax...

As I understand from the Apple web pages, the M1 Pro supports up to 32GB and the M1 Max up to 64GB.

And I assume 512GB storage is the basic configuration. I bet they will offer for example SSD storage of 1TB and 2TB and maybe even more.

Appreciate your humour but a notch isn't warranted for a desktop machine. One legit idea for notch on MBP models is to get the display as large as possible relative to the size of the machine. This factor is more important on a mobile device.
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean anything to Apple. There was no reason to de-content the 24" iMac to make a desktop machine ultra-thin, yet they did it. And now it has few ports and a power brick on the floor.

Any attachment of Pro to the name and Apple attaches a Ridiculous Price to the product!

Yep. And due to overwhelming demand for Apple Cloth, I'm hearing Apple Cloth Pro is already in the pipeline.

$49... $49... $49!
Do I hear $69... $69?.. $69!
Do I hear $99?.. $99? Anyone? $69 going once, $69 going twice... $99!
Do I hear $149?.. $149... ;)

As long as the chin is smaller or preferably gone this could be a dynamic machine
As for the notch, If it had Face ID maybe but preferably no notch
Will this be M1 or M2 max Pro and Max ??

Very likely! The long-term pattern for iMac is to offer a minimalist base configuration so that Marketing can say "starting from <seemingly not too expensive price>" But then you config what you actually think you need- and here you need to config what you will need for the life of the device- and your price is upwards of 1.5X to 3X (or more) that price. It is long-term, very-well-proven approach to rolling out new generation of iMacs. Why change here?

I'll hope with you but my gut guess is exact same chips if this launches in Spring. But there is always hope.

unfortunately we don't know what we don't know. the cpu question might have more to do with Apple GPU plans than anything. Do they intend to do all CPU and GPU in-house, or will they still be using 3rd-party GPUs in their desktops?

sure the max-core M1 Max is nice and all, but you would never pay that much for a desktop with a nice graphics card. you can do so much better on your own.

i like MacOS and all, but for utility it is only so much better. There's a limit to the premium I will pay on an Apple desktop vs what I can do myself and live with Windows.

I’ve never had any desires to have an imac (apart from the blue g3) and if it comes with a miniled monitor, I might get this one… the monitor alone would cost a lot in 27”.

I think his point was that if Apple is charging $2000 for the base configuration of a pro machine then it should come with more than 512 GB of storage. I don't disagree with that logic, but at least with a desktop it's easy to add an external storage solution of your choosing at a price that will be far more reasonable than Apple's internal SSD upgrades.

Based on the new MBP it would be weird to not include a notch on the next iMac, especially a pro model. I can see them making a 27-inch screen exclusive to the pro, and reducing the bezel to require a notch.

Again, I'll hope right with you. And again, I'll offer my guess: If there are going to be third-party GPUs in Macs, best hope will be Mac Pro or the rumored Mac Pro Jr.

And frankly, as Apple marketing keeps cleverly spinning single/select metric beats of good graphic cards and succeeding at making many view that as Apple graphics beating ALL metrics, I'm growing doubt in even the next Mac Pros supporting third-party GPUs... unless... maybe Intel or (also) Intel persists in the next Mac Pro.

If we're going to offer wishes for this iMac, I'd want at least wedge shape with room for a plug in (and changeable-in-the-future third party GPU) and maybe 4 M.2 slots for the ability to jack storage with third-party M.2s in a RAID configuration. Yes (defenders) even M.2 RAID may not be faster than Silicon direct attached storage, but so what. Give us Silicon storage for super speed and off Silicon (but plug-in storage for much less expensive big storage on board).

Apple once rolled out an iMac 27" that had TWO internal drives (plus a third if you count Superdrive). I have that one. On last upgrade, I was able to jack up the storage of the boot SSD and really jack up the HDD inside too. If I needed more, I could have added one more in place of SuperDrive. That is sooooooo nice to fit it all, not cost a fortune or be locked into "only from Apple at Apple prices" inside and it "just work."

Lastly, instead of 27" or 32" being viewed as the only options, I'd like to see an Apple ultra-wide iMac MAX. I think my next new Mac is going to have an ultra-wide screen even if that means the screen has someone else's brand on it.

Of course, they'll almost certainly not go there with any of that but if we're sharing wishes...

(Ugh, I bet this means it won’t be offered any fun colors. I would love a purple iMac, but I don’t want to step down from my 5K 27-inch screen.)

If you want cute colors go for the current iMac. The pro units don’t need these cute colors. They actually look cheap.

So.... identical to the 27" 512Mb SSD iMac with 16Mb that I bought in 2015, but with a less powerful GPU then.

And I can't run Windows on it to play GTA or Red Dead Redemption.

Id buy it..never had an imac before so this would be really nice and 27 inches is perfect for me..would have liked maybe 30 inches but 27 I can live with..the 24 inch imac out now is way too small for my liking

Not really concerned about the size, but I would definitely be disappointed if it has the same chips as their laptops. Those were designed at least partially with heat and battery life in mind. With that not being as much of an issue with the larger chassis I expect more powerful chips. Hard pass for me if it is the same chips - I would wait for something more powerful.
If a new iMac comes out in the spring, the it will likely use the same M1 Pro and Max chips from the MBP line. The M1 2xMax and 4xMax chips are going in the Mac Pro and probably will not come out before next fall. Apple could include those in an iMac Pro++ in the fall when they launch the Mac Pro.

Curious, what kind of work are you doing that requires more than the M1 Max? It seems to exceed or match almost anything out there now unless you need something like the Mac Pro for render farms and scientific analysis.

If this is a "Pro" version, does that mean no white bezel around display?

That seems to be the thinking. The MacBook Pro got a black bezel and the rumored redesigned MacBook Air will have a white bezel along with white keyboard.
