Fingers crossed this comes with an updated black keyboard and mouse ala Mac Pro version but with TouchID and no numpad then that would be a justifiable excuse as to why they discontinued the standard version.
Depending on when in 2022 it comes out, why M1? Let's get to M2!As it will use the M1 Pro and Max chips, Apple considers it a "Pro" device and is calling it the iMac Pro internally,
At least they can never put a notch on my Mac mini ... can they!?
I know this is a rumour and it's supposedly 'base spec' but 16gb Ram and 512gb storage is pathetic for a 'Pro' machine. Cue Apple's memory tax...
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean anything to Apple. There was no reason to de-content the 24" iMac to make a desktop machine ultra-thin, yet they did it. And now it has few ports and a power brick on the floor.Appreciate your humour but a notch isn't warranted for a desktop machine. One legit idea for notch on MBP models is to get the display as large as possible relative to the size of the machine. This factor is more important on a mobile device.
Any attachment of Pro to the name and Apple attaches a Ridiculous Price to the product!
As I understand from the Apple web pages, the M1 Pro supports up to 32GB and the M1 Max up to 64GB.
And I assume 512GB storage is the basic configuration. I bet they will offer for example SSD storage of 1TB and 2TB and maybe even more.
I'll hope with you but my gut guess is exact same chips if this launches in Spring. But there is always hope.
I think his point was that if Apple is charging $2000 for the base configuration of a pro machine then it should come with more than 512 GB of storage. I don't disagree with that logic, but at least with a desktop it's easy to add an external storage solution of your choosing at a price that will be far more reasonable than Apple's internal SSD upgrades. As I understand from the Apple web pages, the M1 Pro supports up to 32GB and the M1 Max up to 64GB.

Based on the new MBP it would be weird to not include a notch on the next iMac, especially a pro model. I can see them making a 27-inch screen exclusive to the pro, and reducing the bezel to require a notch.Unfortunately, that doesn't mean anything to Apple. unfortunately we don't know what we don't know. the cpu question might have more to do with Apple GPU plans than anything. Do they intend to do all CPU and GPU in-house, or will they still be using 3rd-party GPUs in their desktops?
Yes, all Apple needs to do is add the logo to the chin and it would be perfect. I love the sticky notes pasting area the chin offers, but I want my traditional branding.Apple I hope to god you do something about toe iMac chin please.
If a new iMac comes out in the spring, the it will likely use the same M1 Pro and Max chips from the MBP line. The M1 2xMax and 4xMax chips are going in the Mac Pro and probably will not come out before next fall. Apple could include those in an iMac Pro++ in the fall when they launch the Mac Pro.Not really concerned about the size, but I would definitely be disappointed if it has the same chips as their laptops. Those were designed at least partially with heat and battery life in mind. With that not being as much of an issue with the larger chassis I expect more powerful chips. Hard pass for me if it is the same chips - I would wait for something more powerful.
