It's definitely a Pro system the specs are solid. Anybody needing more power has a render farm available. (Via 40Gb TB3) At least this time it's an iMac so it will fit into the workspace. They already teased having it on a VESA mount along with other displays for a clutter free work area.I'm rather bummed. They should have gone for the higher end new i7's (with more cores) and kept the prices somewhat down. They're effectively putting workstation / server hardware in a limited internal storage disposable form factor PC.
How many of these are they really going to sell? Speaking as someone who has the last year of the Mac Pro cheese-grater.
I like this, but seems like another impractical high end Mac.
I'm sure apple has no idea how to deal with heat generation and appreciates your suggestion.
Over the past 3 years, I have developed over $50mm worth of real estate.
Gave up my 2013 rMBP last year in favor of a iPad Pro.
Currently on pace to develop $100mm worth of real estate in 2017.
But hey, what do I know about being a 'professional'.
The arrogance/attitude of people who say XYZ doesn't work because it doesn't work for *them* is arrogant and comical.
Guess what, 99.9% of all 'professional' users do not need a computer which those arrogant 'pros' claim.
Its such a small market segment it is laughable.
It's already ahead of the current Mac Pro that is basically a desk ornament and sometimes a computer.
It's sad when you already can foresee a product being recalled or having significant defects on their first shipment.
I am not a mechanical engineer, but I would hope that the large mass of metal that the iMac has can be used effectively as a heat sink and allow this all to work. A CAD / Gaming class iMac would be pretty cool.
If you have server grade processors and ECC RAM, I wonder exactly how much extra reliability you get? I would imagine the improvements would be so small they are difficult to measure, yet the cost more than doubles. For video editors and photographers, a large proportion of pro Mac hardware customers, I wonder how many really feel they need these things? Perhaps $5K isn't significant to a lot of businesses, so they feel it is worth the marginal improvements they bring. As a photography enthusiast, I wish this thing had an i9 and regular RAM. Or even the new 8 core AMD chip. I am dreaming I know, but it would be nice to be able to buy an insanely powerful Mac for a realistic price.
I'm sure the designers and QA engineers will completely rethink their processes based on your gut feeling.![]()
you can't write a novel on the ipad pro, so what kind of important work are you talking about?I am serious.
I have the current Mac Pro and I never use it anymore. It's gathering dust while my iPad Pro devices help me get all my important work done.
The future Steve Jobs spoke of has finally arrived.
I'm very curious how they're managing to cool this beast. one of the problems I've seen reported about the current iMac's running i7's, is that they do thermal throttle quite a bit when under consistent load.
the iMac pro is going to put out a significant amount more heat. So the cooling system for 2017 iMac Pro's (and even maybe iMac) must have received a significant cooling upgrade. Wondering, if thats the case, could the i7-7700k get a decent overclock with the new cooling...
Out of curiosity, why would you believe someone couldn't write a novel on an iPad Pro.you can't write a novel on the ipad pro, so what kind of important work are you talking about?
Apple designed trash can Mac Pro with zero ability to to update or upgrade. Said they made a mistake.
Make another bloody huge mistake with server grade parts in an iMac with no upgrade or update pathways!
I don't understand how a company with such talented people end up making this ****. Pros want a Mac Pro with interchangeable parts like any other desktop machine. You don't want to get two years down the line and have no options to upgrade the graphics card and resort to relying on Apple to update!
I despair at the incompetence demonstrated by this product.
I edit some audio (podcasts) and videos, complex spreadsheets, building out presentations, writing, some social media. I'm definitely not your average user who surfs the web and checks a few emails.
Some of literary best works were written without anything more than a typewriter. GRR Martin writes on an old 386.
A writer of any kind could very well work with an iPad Pro.
Radeon 580..would be nice if Apple just made an imac with good gpus instead of this server grade cpu crap that no one actually needs.
