You highly overestimate the number of professionals who want to open their computer and upgrade the internals in any way. Even the baseline machine is a beast, so people will use these for 6-7 years and then buy a new one. There's a HUGE segment of consumers who do professional work for a living and don't care about the fact that it's sealed up. The screen quality and footprint make up for that.13k for a “pro” machine that can never be upgraded. Ok, Apple.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yep, just add to the Student Debt, it'll never be paid back anyways.....$12,207 with the education discount....![]()
People complaining about the price need to realise that the iMac Pro isn't aimed at the average consumer, we are talking professional editors, content creators and so on. Movie studios will buy these, it is not very often you see a Windows machine in the editing labs (at least not here in the UK).
As CPU's have stagnated, you're right. GPU's is where this iMac "pro" is going to be outdated within 2-3 years with no change of upgrading.I look at it this way... The only thing you need to worry about is getting the amount of CPU cores and RAM you think you'll need for the next 5-ish years. Everything else can be added ("upgraded") with TB3, of which this thing has a generous 4 ports. Storage, displays, and even external GPUs now are no problem for this thing. Upgradability is not what it used to be with the advent of ridiculously fast modern I/O speeds. Heck, I even switched my base 2014 iMac to an external boot SSD (over USB3) because it was a lot less hassle than 'upgrading' it, among other benefits to going external.
Ok, I've now heard the word "stealthy" to discuss the color scheme of a desktop and I'm curious. How do people picture themselves using a "stealthy" computer? Are they sneaking around at night with an iMac under their arm and the space grey color will make them less noticeable?
People also spend that much refueling their corporate jets every day but that number of people you refer to will not support the further development of the product at a PROFIT, which is a Business Model that has never changed and also why it has taken so long to get a new machine to market. Companies do not throw money out the window intentionally.People, plural, spend that much on bottle service in Vegas nightly. It may be difficult for 'you' to imagine that much money, for many it's a drop in the bucket. Or a night out. Raise your goals and expectations.
Apple made an Apple Watch out of gold and priced it in Rolex territory. People bought it.
The Apple web page for iMac Pro still does not have a buy button, but yes, the link you provided works. Another cock-up Apple? A long list this year. Now that I can see UK prices for Ram, it appears Apple is overcharging customers by £300, at least when I look up Ram prices for the iMac Pro. Shame on you Apple. I wonder if a nice Apple Service centre will unglue the back and add my Ram of choice at £300 cheaper than Apple. Labour to remove back and re-attach £20. RAM is a 3 minute upgrade on iMac 5Ks and the models before that. You can, they just seem to have forgotten to add the Buy button to the iMac Pro page (just change the US URL)

That's $17 000$ Canadian, almost half the average annual salary...
It's been available to order in the UK for a while but it's only currently available on the iOS Apple Store app.

How long now until we're able to write that about iPhone pricing?![]()
